Could not get passed the first page. I tried to go back to it a few times. I will probably try again. I did have a few books that came out that I wanted to read first. Maybe 5th times a charm.

I wanted to like this, but it just wasn’t for me. It felt clunky and unfinished. I may try it again at a later date.

Such a good book! Facing the Enemy has a great plot. There is never a dull moment, and I love how the book tics several boxes.... giving a bit of a Court drama feel, while you get suspense and plot twists, danger and villians, plus it's set in Scotland. Finish it off with a second chance romance... How could you not love this book??

I refuse to give anything away... just know you'll be sucked into the story, won't be able to put it down!

Facing the Enemy is a new contemporary romantic suspense novel by Author Paige Edwards. I love the setting of this novel in Scotland, just like Edward's previous romantic suspense novel, Danger on the Loch. Even though this book is said to be a stand-alone novel, there are characters that we met in Danger on the Loch. I loved this aspect and felt like we already knew the many characters in Facing the Enemy.

The main characters have lived exciting lives as M16 agents. Elise and Harry have known each other since they were teenagers. Their early romance was nixed by Elise's parents who are Scottish Royalty. Now years later after being M16 partners, they're still in love but didn't realize it until danger and turmoil enter their lives. Even with the many setbacks that Elise had, Harry was still there to encourage her. I really loved Harry's son Sammy and how he brought out certain things in Elise that she hadn't allowed herself to feel before.

This very suspenseful novel and its unquestionable, crazy bad guy, will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending of the novel is harrowing and must be read in one sitting; trust me on this. The romance is clean and gut-wrenching at the same time. Thankfully, a certain person realizes they can't run from love.

Facing the Enemy brings out a myriad of emotions that have many highs and lows. Truly though, this novel is worth the crazy and intense ride. You will want to take this ride for yourself by purchasing this novel today.

***4.5 stars***

Third time's the charm? Lady Elise and Harry were college sweethearts. Years later they become M16 partners and have a second chance at love. Now, here they are, meeting again, only this time Elise has been in an accident and is taking medical leave and Harry is going to a new assignment in Scotland. He needs help and she needs a ride. Fate is throwing them together once again.

The chemistry between Elise and Harry simmers from the moment that he sees her in the M16 offices. He has always been in love with her but lived a separate life when things didn't work out. This gave him the blessing of a young son. His son proves a blessing to Elise while she takes care of him while Harry is on assignment. Is this a chance for her to experience motherhood and possible for them to reunite? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Paige Edwards did not disappoint. I know when I pick up one of her books I will be invested in a wonderful story. This is a page-turner that ramps up the suspense. There is the bonus of a precocious little boy to lighten things up. This is a story with many fantastic plot twists and elements that you are not going to want to miss.

I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I started reading this book. The cover looks historical, but the book is contemporary.
I really liked it. Elise and Harry are a couple to root for, and the suspense of their "will they or won't they" relationship was well paced. The mystery that Harry had to solve and the plot against Elise kept me hooked as well.
The side characters were well developed, because I discovered that many of them are featured in their own books. While this book was a standalone, I think I would have prefered to read the books about the other characters first. Unfortunately they aren't numbered so if you want to read more you do have to do a little research, something I am willing to do because they sound really exciting.

Never been a huge fan of romance but here I am falling for this book!!! Romance might be my thing😭 or at least Paige Edwards’ books are my thing because this had me head over heels in love, devouring every page, word and moment from beginning to end!!! I love the characters and the story and the writing style, it all just goes together and forms this beautiful masterpiece. I’ll be singing praises about this romantic suspense for awhile!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It has been a while since I’ve read romantic suspense, and I’m glad this is the book I chose to get back into the genre. I was intrigued from the beginning, and it was hard to put down! This was also the first book I’ve read by this author. Facing the Enemy is set in Scotland, and the location sounds gorgeous! I enjoyed the characters, and reading about a modern-day family of a marquess. I was also drawn in by Elise and Harry’s second chance romance (my favorite trope!). A time or two I was ready to shake some sense into both of them, but I enjoyed the tension. They were both pushed to their limits physically and emotionally, and found that they still cared for and loved one another. The villain was chilling! This was a stunning start to this new series by Paige Edwards, and it will not be my last read by her!

-Romantic suspense
-Set in Scotland
-2 MI6 agents with a second chance at love
-Slimy villain out for revenge

I enjoy Paige’s writing style. The action was well written and moved at a good pace. I felt the romance side was a little lacking. I also feel like you need to have read her previous books to truly Grasp the story and Gilmont’s motivations. Overall I enjoyed it.

I loved this book! It was filled with a lot more suspense than I'm used to but it kept me interested and it will keep readers on the edge of their seat. The romance was so swoony as well! I loved the flirtatiousness between Harry and Elise! I loved how real and relatable each of the characters were!

Book review: Facing the enemy by Paige Edwards
.
This book was more suspense than I usually read, and I LOVED IT! It was such a well written book with so much going on I was never bored. I loved the contemporary setting with lords and ladies, as well as government agents. It was a fun mix of worlds. I also really appreciated the glossary of terms in the front of the book because I found myself referring to it often. The little boy, Sammy, was adorable. The romance was sweet, the bad guy scary, the plot line entertaining. I really don’t have much more to add, other than go read it! It’s a cracking book!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Content: clean romance, trigger: unable to have children due to injury

Facing the Enemy was an easy book for me to select. It's a romantic suspense novel, written by one of the authors who contributed to Heirs of Falcon Point, another novel I enjoyed recently. I confess I wasn't sure whether this was going to be historic or contemporary (neither the front cover or back cover of my ARC copy seemed to make that clear), but I can now confirm that this is a contemporary novel (just in case you are wondering the same thing). Wile this story had a bit of a slow start for me (suspense was minimal for the first half of the book), the pace increased significantly toward the end and I enjoyed the climax and conclusion of the story. There was quite a bit of character development and I did like the protagonists. I also enjoyed the Scotland setting of this novel and the author described the region quite well.

I received an complimentary copy of this novel. Opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This was a great suspenseful second chance romance about two MI6 agents who used to date. Harry gets an assignment near Elise’s family home. Elise is home healing from and injury and offers to have the staff take care of his son. This was my first Paige Edwards book, and I really enjoyed her writing. She did a great job writing relatable characters and creating some amazing suspense! I do kind of wish there was some more suspenseful parts in the first half of the book, but the last half makes up for it. All in all it’s a great read!

Two MI6 agents from vastly different upbringings, get a second chance at love as they fight the shadows from the past for survival.

Harry and Elise's paths diverged after University, but she is the only one that he trusts to take care of his son. She is recovering from an accident that has put her on medical leave, so she accepts.

Slower to start, this book switches between multiple viewpoints, and takes a while for the pieces to start to click together. I personally didn't like following the creepy bad guy. Sammy is an adorable with a childlike faith, and a knack for mischief. He quickly charms Elise's staff, while finding plenty of ways to keep them on their toes. Sammy's arrival stirs thoughts that Elise has never pondered before, and makes her wonder about what could have been.

I liked Elise's growth over the course of the story. Harry is a good dad to Sammy, and he works hard to find balance between work and fatherhood. The story builds to an explosive conclusion. I loved the Scottish setting with castles, and tastes of the culture. A book for lovers of romantic suspense.

This was such a fun book full of twists and turns! I loved that it spun off of Paige’s other series and closed out the stories for the two amazing Spies!!! I truly enjoyed this book and am super excited to read more of this series.

Paige Edwards sets the stage for the suspense really well. So much, that I realized I'm still a wuss. Her villain had wonderfully fleshed out background and motive. Not the kind that makes you empathize with him, but the kind that ups the creep factor, in the best way possible.
I would have loved that much depth in the backstory of Harry and Elise. I felt like their romance was a little hot and cold at times and their relationship backstory skimmed the surface of what I hoped to know. We did get cute glimpses into the past and plenty of swoony moments in the present though.
One of the relationships I did love was between Sammy and Elise. In a single dad romance, the relationship between child and significant other is almost as important and Paige did a fabulous job with them. It wasn't instant connection and understanding. It was something Paige built slowly overtime in a beautiful way. Their relationship was genuine and definitely upped the suspense factor by the end. I loved how she wove that together.
She also built the relationship between Elise's family really well too. Their complex family dynamics held all the hooks and I'm completely attached to the siblings, I'll need to read every single one of their stories!
This is a suspense novel so there is a moderate amount of violence, some of the passing comments of the villain bordered on super creepy/violent for me, but it was never graphic. A relationship with God is discussed a time or two in a natural and plot enhancing way, but no specific religion is ever discussed.
