Interesting way to learn math through this chicken family and their friends mouse and crab. The author created mathematical problems and answers in the most fun way: while reading a story book. And here we are enjoying the story of happy summertime while learning about addition and subtraction altogether.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

It's math chicken. Seriously - a cute and funny book that will open up math conversations with young kids. Addition, subtraction, and other math vocabulary words litter the pages. I cannot wait to get a copy for my classroom library!

I was drawn to the title of this book. It's a nice introduction to adding and subtracting. Would have preferred if the answers to the math questions were on the next page so students can try and solve it on their own first. Illustrations have lots going on which I can see many children enjoying!

I received this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Reading is my subject. Not math. Had I had a fun book like this as a kid, maybe I'd enjoy math more. It was so fun! I liked seeing the clever ways to teach kids counting skills. The font was really easy to read, so a younger fead could manage on their own.

A cute math story about fact families under 10. My little ones (5 and 7) were engaged, thought about each math question, and responded enthusiastically. They were doing real math problems without even realizing!

As a grown-up reading the story, it did feel a bit busy for me with what felt like two stories happening, the Arithmechicks and then the story with Mouse and Crab. But my kids didn’t mind and overall enjoyed the cutely illustrated chicks.

This book is an excellent opportunity to bring literacy into the math classroom. The arithmechicks offer several opportunities to practice basic addition and subtraction facts and to learn about fact families. There are four basic (under 10) fact families explored in the story, but I think that it would be fairly easy to go beyond just those mathematical concepts to look at story problems and word problems, explore vocabulary related to addition and subtraction concepts and create their own story and math problems.

The pictures are fun and inviting and the words are fairly easy to understand. I could see this being used as a shared reading or read aloud experience, but I think that lots of children in the K-2 range would find this book accessible. It would also be a good fit in those classrooms because of the ties to basic numeracy concepts that are woven throughout this book. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

I enjoyed this math book that features a family of chickens headed to the beach for a day of fun! The chickens have a bunch of adventures as they explore their vacation spot. At each activity, we get to see a fact family or a restructuring of the chickens that shows us that even if we move the groups, the answer remains the same. I thought this book was adorable, but I kept wishing for some rhyming and it was a tad busy. Because so much of the book was the calculation itself, it wouldn't be one I picked up for a read-aloud, but I think this would be adorable in a math station for children to produce the fact families that are featured in the book. Love the addition of the cute mouse and his crabby friend for comic relief in the background.
