Sixteen year old Michaela has her life turn upside down not just once, but twice in the span of 24 hours. First, her mother dies in a tragic accident. Then just a few hours later she finds out that her distant father who she believed to be a bachelor actually has an entirely different family. Michaela never knew about them, and they never knew about her. Now, she’s moving in with the dad she barley knows, his wife and their three kids. While Michaela bonds with her brothers, 12 year old Cody and 17 year old Gabe, it’s the sister she’s sharing a room with, 16 year old Emery (only months older than Michaela) that she’s having problems with. To top it off, the guy that Michaela has been seeing is actually Emery’s ex-boyfriend.

Overall, really enjoyed this! I’m glad it focused mostly on family and the romance plot wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. I read the whole thing in one sitting.

Rachel Vincent shared an impactful and human story about dealing with unexpected circumstances and exploring emotion and compassion. Well worth sharing with a wide range of readers, young and old.
