This has a ton of unnecessary fanservice involved and I think the concept is okay however, there were way too many miscommunication moments and the guy just needs to tell her his reasoning for not talking to her properly!!! I was getting a little frustrated with the leading girl so much. I am though curious how things will continue on. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Had to the DNF this one because the female lead….. she literally just became a pick me…… and that really hurts me :((((((

Hahahaha! Ohhh the situations poor Mona gets herself into...!
Mona is an extremely popular, pretty girl who is used to everyone fawning over her. When the new boy, Kuroiwa, basically ignores her or is even downright RUDE to her, she's determined to win him over - whatever it takes!! She goes SO HARD and SO over the top trying to get Kuroiwa to notice her... and winds up in the wildest situations! She doesn't really LIKE him, she just needs to *WIN* at all costs... Until in a few moments of actually being real and vulnerable, Mona maybe starts to actually like Kuroiwa a little?

The best parts of this manga are all Mona. Kuroiwa is... well, poor Kuroiwa is training to become a monk, and tries really hard to show zero expression despite Mona's ever-increasing antics. I really like Haruno and her deep and abiding (and stalkerish...) love of Mona. I'll keep reading this series purely for the misguided Mona and her equally misguided sidekick cheering on her "love."

The female protagonist constantly threw herself at the male main character in an attempt to seduce him and then attempted to use the fact that she viewed herself as “hot” to justify her actions of gross misconduct. If a man had been doing the same to her that would’ve been viewed as predatory sexual harassment. She constantly acted like a baby that wanted attention from the one person who wouldn’t give it to her.

The blurb for this manga was kind of interesting but the actual thing in the story was dull. Prolly, most people will likely be turned off by the way the characters conduct themselves in general.

I want to preface this review by acknowledging that my rating seems to be running counter to the norm on Goodreads. Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms Vol. 1 has a decent rating (around three and a half stars). I'm not giving it that much because I have some significant concerns with the story. But I'll discuss that more in a moment.

Mona is, without a doubt, the cutest girl in her school – and she knows it. She wears her cuteness like armor, using it to get what she wants. That is until Medaka Kuroiwa arrives. For some reason, her cuteness doesn't seem to be getting through to him.

Medaka is a new student at the school, which is his first of this kind. Before now, he had spent his whole life living in a temple, training to be a monk. To say that he's dealing with a bit of a culture shock would be an understatement.

So this series initially caught my attention because it sounded like a cute romance. However, I would not describe anything in this story as a romance. Mona is actively chasing Medaka around the school, doing everything she can to make him fall for her.

My issue with Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms Vol. 1: it's problematic. Suppose you're having trouble seeing why this is a problem. Try flipping the gender of the characters. Mona is harassing a guy that told her no, going so far as to put the two of them in awkward situations (which some would describe more harshly if we're being honest here).

The lack of consent and awareness is alarming. It made it impossible to enjoy the story. So instead of a relaxing and fun romance, I got to read something that frustrated me to no end. Disappointing.

please do me a favour and don't read this, it's not worth it. A girl is fully obsessed that every guy and girl must be in love with her and be in love with her. when a boy doesn't care about her she goes ALL WAY doing CRAZY THINGS so he can like her. Meanwhile, she thinks she is in love with him?? Like WTF??? This is so so bad and weird that is not even funny.

Egoistical and over-confident beauty, Mona Kawai went to great lengths to make Medaka Kuroiwa fall for her charms. It is just unacceptable that the new guy isn't interested in a Queen Bee like her even in the slightest which drives her mad and desperate. Unbeknownst to the silly cute little Mona that Medaka is actually a monk-in-training and their temple forbids relationships with girls. Will Mona's unmindful schemes finally crack Medaka to enjoy worldly desires or lead to his insanity and even harsh rejection of her? This is a silly and hilarious quick read from Ran Kuze. I actually enjoyed the premise of the story, and Mona is a cutie! The art style is such eye candy. The only issue I got with this shonen manga is the unnecessary fanservice, which I can live without. Overall, it was very engaging. I'd gladly read the next volumes too!

Huge fan of the art style/artwork in this book. The story is totally adorable and I look forward to reading more and getting to know both characters further. I hope this gets turned into an anime!

Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms is a cute manga about the most popular girl in school, Mona, and her attempts to get stone faced Medaka to fall for her. Mona is not used to being ignored, especially by a boy, so she decides she is going to make him love her whether he wants to or not. What Mona doesn't realize is that Medaka was raised by monks and he continues on his devotions as a monk, including resisting temptations. So Mona has her work cut out for her...

Everything about this was wrong. A despicable manga that, alongside insulting all genders, even failed to be funny.

The female protagonist constantly threw herself at the male main character in an attempt to seduce him and then attempted to use the fact that she viewed herself as “hot” to justify her actions of gross misconduct. If a man had been doing the same to her that would’ve been viewed as predatory sexual harassment. She constantly acted like a baby that wanted attention from the one person who wouldn’t give it to her.

The worst part was the fact that she was disrespecting him AND his religious values and there was nothing amusing about that. It also led to repetitive interactions where Medaka would walk away or scowl whilst chanting his favourite phrases of “begone worldly desires” and “obey the precepts”.

Any remotely enjoyable aspect of this was far overshadowed by the horridly lewd actions of the protagonist and the way the mangaka portrayed her.

The blurb for this manga was interesting but the actual thing was lackluster. The female lead, Mona, is drawn cute but written in a way that makes her a boring and unlikable character. If you like ecchi, this might be for you but most people will likely be turned off by the way the characters conduct themselves in general.

I was a bit scared of this manga because, often when the girl is trying to seduce the guy, there is a lot of Ecchi. And of course, there is some here but it didn’t feel excessive.
In this manga, Mona is a cute girl liked by all. Except by one person, Medaka who just arrived in the school. What she doesn’t know is that Medaka has been raised at a temple and cannot get close to women. So Mona is going to keep trying to seduce him. It’s a nice and funny read. Nothing new here for the moment, but the character design made me laugh more than one time. I already feel like it’s Mona who is going to win but we will see.
I recommend to people looking for a chill read.

Do you think that reading a book about a highschooler who thinks that she is hot and that every guy should just fall for her is cute?!!!! Well, no.
That was not cute.
That was a high-school girl who is always acting like "I'm so sexy. I'm so hot. Look at my body. Why isn't he falling for me?!!!!"

This manga was just a teenage girl using her body in a creepy manner to seduce a monk.
Yes, that's it.

The self-proclaimed hottest girl in school, Mona, throws herself at the new kid, who shows not a smidge of interest in her, much to her belief. She prances and flaunts, showcasing all of her assets to attract superficial attention, without bothering to attempt to initiate a conversation with Medaka. Hopefully, Mona eventually develops a better understanding of using communications to attract men vs. strictly relying on her sex appeal, but it doesn't happen in this volume. At one point, she almost loses it over what she thinks is a rivalry with another girl for Medaka's attention, but it turns out that girl is stalking Mona herself, instead of Medaka. We eventually learn that Medaka is avoiding Mona for religious reasons, but Mona remains unaware and I doubt she would find that a deterrent, anyway. Wonderful artwork!

I want to like this manga but it was just alittle to shounen for my taste. I didn’t love the panty flashes and literally ripping her shirt to reveal her bra. I also found Mona to be slightly annoying to be honest. It just seemed like she only perused medaka just because he didn’t like her. I did like medaka though. I found his character to nice. I like that he was trying to be monk so he wants to abstain. It just felt alittle weird to me. I felt bad for medaka.

The biggest reason I didn’t like this was Mona’s character. I found her to be weird and pushy and annoying. I felt like she goes to far and it makes me feel bad for medaka, who is the only character I really liked.

Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms took me by surprise, since I don't usually like ecchi shounen like this. Mona is the most popular girl at school and all the boys love her and she knows it (and uses it of course). Medaka Kuroiwa is a boy that changes schools from the countryside and he is to follow in the footsteps of the temple aka not be confused by carnal desires. Thus the boy is stoic and not interested, even when he thinks Mona is cute in reality. This is something Mona can't take and does her best to try to lure him and make him fall in love with her. The instances are actually well played and laugh at cliches, which is super great. At the same time we are inside the heads of our characters and the inside and outside look so different. They both have personas and there isn't too much fan service either, or it at last has it's logical place.

The art looks nice and there are lots of details. This is a very vivid series with backgrounds too, so not just talking heads. The rhythm is good albeit a little fast, but that doesn't bother too much. I do hope we get more content and we already get to meet the Mona fangirl. This is surely one of the better series like this!

I have no expectations going into this book, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I think the main reason why I enjoyed it so much was because of Mona. She really is a charmer and her cuteness totally won me over.

This manga gave me some Teasing Master Tagaki vibes for some reason but in a good way. I enjoyed the interactions between Mona and Medaka. His stoiciness never failed to make me laugh. I can’t wait to read more!

With pleasing art and a main character who's used to being fawned over rather than rejected, this was an interesting first volume with plenty of humorous moments.

Initially I found this volume quite funny as Mona is very confident in herself and her looks and I've never seen a character be brazen enough to 'accidentally' rip their shirt open before, however I feel like this was dragged out a bit too long and I quickly lost interest in the volume. I don't particularly mind fan-service but it just reached a point when it felt over done and with the way our male lead reacts, or doesn't, it left me feeling a bit meh.

Don't get me wrong, I really loved Mona, I thought she was a great character and I had a lot of fun reading about her and I understand why he reacts the way he does but rather than finding that contrast intriguing I just kind of felt like things were getting a bit ridiculous.
