Great audiobook and narrator. Have wanted to read this book for so long, and with the last year or so, I definitely wanted to. The narration was done so well and the content is just so prophetic in so many ways! It blows my mind that this was written back in the 1950s. Crazy.

This book is even more eerie when listening to it! I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version of this book.

This is a book that I think most people read in school growing up. I think that many of the themes are a lot closer to what we are experiencing today than when it was written.

Big brother always watching made my skin crawl a little bit throughout this book. I can't imagine what it would be like to be punished for "thought crimes." A world where you can't voice your thoughts or be an individual. Of course my favorite part is the rations on chocolate(so beyond unfortunate).

This book is definitely worth listening to as the audiobook since the narrator really brings out the feelings in the book.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of this Audiobook for my honest review.

This is an old favourite for me.
Being able to revisit it with a beautiful narration was everything!
While I still adore my paperback (like a security blanket of sorts), I will likely be revisiting this audio in the future. I highly enjoyed following along in my paperback while having it read to me.
Much love to NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for my DRC.

1984 is one of my favorite books, so when I saw this new audiobook version of the story, I had to check it out. In this classic dystopian story, Winston lives in Oceania, on the island known as Airstrip One, which we know as England. Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia and allies with Eastasia – or is the other way around? Big Brother is always watching with TV screens that work both ways. Winston works in the Ministry of Truth, editing facts when they know longer fit the current truth. Going against The Party in any way, even just by thoughtcrime, could lead to Winston getting arrested, and yet he can’t resist starting an illicit affair with Julia after she give him a secret note.

This story remains one of my favorites, no matter how many times I reread it. The world in which Winston lives seems so much closer to being possible now than it did when I first reread it. Peter Noble did an excellent job narrating this audiobook. If you have managed to make it this far in life without reading 1984, you need to check it out now!

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

1984
By George Orwell
Published by Dreamscape Media
Released: April 4, 2021

This was an audio version of the classic 1984 book by George Orwell. I read this book 20 years ago but I know I appreciated it so much more this time than I did the first time I read the book. One thing I wasn't aware of was that George Orwell was very very sick and dieing when he wrote this book. However the talent shown in his writing is amazing! He is a brilliant writer! I'm amazed how much I loved his style of writing! His inspiration and creativity is outstanding!

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape for this advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

I am obsessed with all these new editions of cold classic re-read as audiobooks by insanely talented authors. 1984 is one of my favorite books that somehow seems even more relevant now than it did during its initial release. Peter Noble does an amazing job narrating this story and brings new life to this book. I could not recommend more.

Thanks to NetGalley for sending me an advanced audio copy of this new recording of 1984.

There's not too much to say about this title since it's an absolute classic. 1984 is probably my all-time favorite book, and I read a LOT.

This new recording read by Peter Noble was extremely well done. I have enjoyed Noble's narration in other titles (The Dilemma by B A Paris; Odd Child Out by Gilly MacMillan) and that was still the case with this title. If you are able to access Noble's edition of this title, I would highly recommend picking it up!

As terrifying today as the first time I read it--many years ago. The narrator of the audio version did an excellent job. There are some parts that dragged on a little, and seemed repetitious, such as the lengthy explanations of the rules of the society, the new language, etc. However, the message is still a strong one, and should serve as a cautionary tale to those in the present day advocating for banning books from school libraries (if those concerned would read it, that is...).

1984 follows Winston who works rewriting history for the Ministry of Truth. As Winston starts thinking for himself he begins questioning what the party (of this world) of Oceana is saying and if what they’re doing is in fact what is right. But he must remember big brother is always watching. 1984 has always been a book that has intrigued me because even though this world is imaginary and this book was written in the 194os, the similarities between this book and our world are very noticeable. Although it was written long ago, the author was able to write and allude to the future and he advices us and warns us of the power that history and words have on the world. It is amazing. I really enjoyed this narration from Dreamscape Media. I think 1984 is a great choice for an audiobook. The narrator Peter truly immerses you into this world and it almost feels like you’re watching a movie. I really enjoyed the story and it is a classic I believe everyone should read or listen to at some point.

I have read the book a couple of years ago and I did enjoy it but I decided I wasn't to listen to this on audiobook and I am so glad I did because I loved this audiobook.

The narrator did a fantastic job.

I do recommend this.

Great narrator reading a truly great book! This made the book even better than it already was, which I would have thought was impossible.

This a great audio rendition of 1984. Peter Noble does a great job of capturing the classic dystopian world. I’m still deciding if I prefer this version or the Simon preddle version.

The narrator does a great job of infusing life into the book and giving each of the characters a distinct personality.

By the time I entered high school the book, 1984, was hotly contested and not part of the library or curriculum. So this audiobook version was my introduction to George Orwell’s Classic.

First, Peter Nobel does an amazing job at narrating this story. I felt transported to a movie while I listened to his narration and the inflection of his tone hit every single note perfectly.

The story itself, which wasn’t changed or altered, reminded me of an adult version of The Giver. I was absolutely gobsmacked by the parallels that could be drawn between the story and 2022 reality.

Thank you Dreamscape Audio & NetGalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to this classic novel.
I am sure I read it as a teenager,, that it was required reading but I hardly remember anything except Big Brother and many of the names and concepts that are now accepted English language.
When I first started reading, I thought that the book hadn't held up well but I was/am wrong.
By the time I was a third of the way in, Orwell's brilliance, imagination, and ability to foresee where political ambitions would lead is clearly nothing but extraordinary. At a time, when an autocrat has invaded Ukraine, cut off all media from his country, and fed the citizens only what he wants them to hear..well it's a script right out of 1984.
It is a difficult book to read--I was listening to it and the reader was wonderful. It is meant to be uncomfortable. It was meant to make people in the late 1940s think, to take a look around them, and make better, more humane choices. I remember when 1984 came and went and I thought 'phew nothing happened." I clearly hadn't understood the book. 1984 was well into the works. Now we have autocracies everywhere.
If you haven't read this classic, read it. And remember it was written in the 1940s.

I loved this book in high school but I haven’t taught it in years because I felt like it was a little dated, and it’s a slow read. But with this option, I may actually have to reconsider! The narrator does a great job of infusing life into the book and giving each of the characters a distinct personality.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this advance listener copy in exchange for my honest review.

I haven't read this book in 25 years and it was different reading it as an adult and during the time period that we live in. It seems much more realistic to me now than it did when I was in high school. This book is terrifying and should be required reading for all high school students. Realistically, it should be required reading for everyone.

I'm not going to go into the plot as this book is almost 75 years old and most people have read it by now. This book will haunt me forever and I will revisit it again once more before I die.

This audio version was great. The narrator is exactly how I envisioned Winston sounding. I will always give this book 5 stars. PLEASE READ BANNED BOOKS!

This audiobook from Dreamscape narrated by Peter Noble was 5 stars. Noble has a great speaking voice. It's clear and distinct. He has great intonation. He didn't make the female characters within the book sound dumb with high pitched whines or intentional vocal weakness. Noble's narration kept the story flowing. Without his audio I would've stopped reading 1984.

I found the book itself to be incredibly boring. George Orwell writes in almost an encyclopedic narrative. He informs the reader. He writes as if you're reading a list of ingredients on the side of a Campbell's soup can. Portions of the book that involve Winston reading a "book" written by Goldenstein and later the final chapter which defines Newspeak are so boring that I didn't care.

In my opinion this book should only be taught at the college level which will provide enough time for a higher level of discussion. Teachers that attempt to force squirrely high school aged teenagers into reading this book will simply cause them to hate reading for the rest of their lives. In the event that you have to read this book for a class I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Dreamscape Media audio by Peter Noble. The narration was a strong 5 stars.(hence my stars below) The book itself was boring, disturbing in parts, and thought provoking in others.

The Party

A frightening book in Science Fiction which is real enough that it almost sounds like it could be written about current times.

I read this book in high school as a class project. I didn't understand it then and was rather lost, but I do understand what is being said now. It was worth reading this book again...well rather listening to the audio book.

Peter Noble did a wonderful job of narrating the story, his dramatized speaking and enunciation was perfect.

The book speaks of the Party of being in control of everything. They change history when it suits them, they change language so it suits them. People are arrested and either tortured or shot for breaking party rules.

What was one of the scariest passages in the book was the following:
Who controls the past, controls the future
Who controls the present, controls the past.

In a place called Oceania war was constant. It was constant because it was needed to reduce production so there would be scarcity which would cause the citizens to rely on the party for subsistence. Thus the Party could control the masses.

Newspapers were rewritten as was the dictionary. Words were removed simplifying and removing certain words from it. Past was constantly brought up to date by revising print records as needed to correspond with the Party. Old records, newspapers, magazines and books were destroyed.

The Party is a socialistic controlling party which is called Big Brother by those that would resist, but those are always caught and always punished.

They had Though Police that could interpret your facial expressions and moods and if you were denounced for a thought crime you were tortured or shot.

The party told you what to think, where to work and live . The children were taught to inform on parents and friends and neighbors informed on each other. It was illegal to have Own Life which is anything solitary. Affairs between men and women were discouraged. There was no emotion allowed.

New speak was the new language taking over from old speak. New speak is the new language which is a simplification and addition of new words by the Party such as reality control, double think, thought crime, thought police, own life. Many words are removed from the dictionary and more all the time.

It was really a thought provoking book and a frightening one with how history is being rewritten and the way our schools and colleges are being taught. I really think everyone should listen to this audio book.

Thanks to Pete Noble for a great narration of the classic book written years ago by Orson Wells , to Dreamscape Media for publishing it and to NetGalley for making it available to me.
