Megan is trapped in a marriage with a sketchy man who has been gaslighting her from day 1. When she finds provocative photos of her estranged identical twin on her husband's phone, she is crushed. Leah always wanted everything Megan had, and it's time to retaliate and also escape from her terrifying marriage. Then the COVID pandemic starts, complicating things...

COVID probably could have been left out of this in my opinion. There are a slew of COVID books out there as writers processed the dramatic changes in all of our lives. I get that. But I don't really need to read about it.

At any rate, this was a great thriller, especially for a debut novel! It got a little confusing at a few points, but I think maybe that lead to intrigue in the story. I will definitely look for more books by this author!

Wow - This book has a lot going on! Megan is estranged from her twin, Leah. Megan’s marriage has issues even before she finds a picture of Leah on her husband’s
phone. And when I say issues, I mean ISSUES…..this guy isn’t quite right. And when Megan confronts Leah, she ends up killing her and decides to live both their lives, but then the pandemic lockdown happens.

The first half was good and then things really get turned upside down about halfway through. It was a little disturbing for me at that point but then another twist occurs which sucked me back in.

Thank you @netgalley and @grandcentralpub for the opportunity to read and review this book. Her Perfect Twin is out in paperback on 9/28.

Okay, I really struggled with how to rate this one. There were some very strong bones for a thriller and some good wow moments but also parts that were pretty unbelievable and had some plot holes.

However I am a very detail oriented, logic based person so have a hard time relinquishing that to give into a story so that might be part of my problem. I can totally see how the story can be a wild, disorienting, twisty ride for those who don’t overanalyze the details and can just lean into the story.

Which let’s get to the story because it’s such an interesting premise. Megan confronts her twin Leah for sleeping with her husband and it results in murder (not a spoiler it’s in the synopsis). To get away with it Megan decides to live a double life pretending to be Megan and Leah; but then lockdown hits. Now I wasn’t sure how I felt about reading a book with the pandemic in it but it was used as such an interesting plot device. Because what would you do it you were in middle of living a double life and suddenly everything shuts down and you’re stuck in one place?

Although I had a strong inclination as to the way the story was going (and was correct) Bonner did a great job keeping me questioning myself and wondering what and who to trust.

Overall, a fast enjoyable read and solid debut that has me keeping an eye out for any future books from Bonner!

My first thoughts after receiving this book for review was another book about twins...I mean how different can it be? I opened the book, started reading and a few hours later finished the book because Holy Cow there's no way to stop the free fall once you head down this rabbit hole! Her Perfect Twin is . . . perfect. Don't hesitate to grab this book and dive in. I promise you it's original, cleverly written and guaranteed to keep readers guessing until the last phenomenal shocker on the final page.

Megan and Chris Hardcastle have been married about four years when she discovers pictures on his phone of someone who's the mirror image of her, lying across their bed wearing scanty, sexy lingerie. But wait a minute . . . she doesn't own said lingerie, and she certainly didn't pose for this semi-naked, come hither photograph. There's only one possibility . . . the photo is of her identical twin sister Leah. The thought of her estranged twin sleeping with her husband in their marital bed enrages Megan. She hasn't spoken to Leah since she sold a book they started writing together as her own, cheating Megan out of any of the accolades and proceeds. The sale of the book made Leah independently wealthy and an Instagram Superstar. Since birth, Leah has taken glee in torturing Megan by stealing anything or anyone Megan showed an interest in so she's not surprised Leah would betray her this way. To Megan's knowledge, Chris has never met her sister and yet her gut's telling her he's deceived her in the worse possible way. Truth be known, Megan fears Chris's violent mood swings so rather than confront him, she decides it's time to have a heart-to-heart with her estranged sister. The aftershocks of their meeting forever changes their lives and is the catalyst that drives the rest of this crazy, twisted, no bathroom breaks thriller.

While Her Perfect Twin relies heavily on the identical twin factor, it's done so in a completely atypical manner. The story follows anti-hero Megan as she attempts to find a solution to the chaos she finds herself in by juggling two lives - hers and her dead sister's. If she plays her cards right, she just might come out of this without being charged with murder and free of her lying, cheating, manipulative husband. The answer is pretty obvious - one of the twins has to disappear permanently, and she'll play the role of the surviving twin until death do her part. Which sister should she claim to be? Just when Megan thinks she has it figured out, the covid pandemic hits and she's locked down with Chris. Let the games begin!

Her Perfect Twin unfolds through multiple narrators albeit primarily Megan's point of view in the first half. Later, readers are also privy to Leah and Chris's version of this sordid tale right up to the final part where an attorney's view point brings the story home. It's extremely difficult to relay how twisted this story is without spoilers and that's why I won't reference any more of the plot line. Go into this one blind, and I think you'll find yourself surprised and highly entertained.

Sarah Bonner has killed it with her debut novel, showcasing her fantastic skill at characterizations and voice. These characters are seriously flawed with questionable motives and yet as a reader, I couldn't get enough. The dialogue is sharp and on point, the plot line insane, and yet this author not only makes it work, she blows it out of the water. Time and time again, I found myself gasping at this or that jaw-dropping disclosure. While Her Perfect Twin is character driven, the brilliant manner in which Bonner drives the plot line with unforeseeable twists and turns kept the entire reading experience off-kilter just enough to keep me guessing. And then there's the ending. I love ambiguous endings where the author seemingly leaves readers with a piece of the puzzle missing and charges them to come play . . . figure it out. I will say, if you think the ending abruptly comes out of left field, do as I did and go back and reread the earliest part of this story. You'll find a trail of story crumbs with foreshadowing that leads readers right to this stellar ending.

Her Perfect Twin is an intense psychological thriller that's highly original and atmospheric. It addresses issues such as toxic relationships, sibling rivalries, mental and physical abuse, manipulation and deception. It's the second book I've read set during the pandemic, and I'm happy to say the author uses it as a tool to manipulate the plot and characters but never allows it to overwhelm the story. Congratulations, Sarah Bonner! You deserve a standing ovation. Her Perfect Twin is a stunning, rare gem in the pool of debut novels. A 2022 Favorite. Highly recommended to fans of suspense and psychological thrillers and readers who love a good twist. You don't want to miss this one!

Sarah Bonner knocked it out of the park with this debut novel! Imagine yourself trying to cover up a murder and escape a sociopathic, abusive husband just as COVID hits and everything goes into lockdown... Diabolical twists and turns that keep you guessing, a pace that doesn't let up, and a bit of dark humor. I did not want to put this book down and I will definitely read whatever she comes up with next!

Taut, suspenseful, and chilling.

Sarah Bonner's intense debut psychological thriller, HER PERFECT TWIN —is a wickedly delicious evil game of cat and mouse mixed with dark humor.

A twin is MURDERED.

Will she get away with murder and kill two birds with one stone? At the same time, be able to set up her cheating husband for the murder by pretending to be the twin, keeping her money, and getting Chris to take the fall for her murder (his wife). And how will she pull it off?

How to get away with MURDER?

Let the games begin.

Megan finds a suggestive photo of her identical twin sister, Leah, on her husband, Chris's phone, and shortly afterward confirms that they are indeed having an affair. She ends up killing her twin, Leah, and attempts to go on living a double life until she gets her plan together. A lot more things drive this accidental killing.

Chris is a nasty piece of work and has continued to gaslight Megan while having an affair with Leah. However, Chris is a sly one. OMG! His attorney is just as bad. Megan does not want him to find out her secret.

The body is in the freezer, but Chris finds out and moves it. Wrong move.

Leah, Mum, and Megan were her father's second family —the dirty little secret kept hidden from his real life with his pretty wife and two sons. The mom did not find out until the twins were ten. Leah wrote a book about their lives growing up, but she promised they would write it together but then Megan had to get a job to help support them. But Leah wrote the story they had promised not to tell, took her name off the project, sold it, and made millions. Stories of identical twin antics and the double life their father had lived had broad appeal.

Will she be able to outsmart a jury, Chris, the attorney, and Leah's boyfriend?

With several clever twists and turns and complications from COVID, multiple POVs, unreliable narrators, a few winks, and gaslighting kept me guessing to the end. You may need to suspend your disbelief, making for an entertaining read. You definitely will be rooting for Megan.

The author explores the power of family dynamics and sibling rivalry for an impressive debut. Mind-bending, dark, twisty, and humorous.

For fans of author Will Dean's FIRST BORN, also about twins and murder. Looking forward to seeing what is next from this new talent.

There is …. a lot going on here. Megan finds a risque photo of her identical twin sister on her husband's phone, and shortly after confirms that they are indeed having an affair. She ends up accidentally (?) killing her twin Leah, and goes on to live a double life as both of them as she figures out what to do from there.

The premise sounded so interesting to me but I think the execution fell flat. The inclusion of COVID and lockdown seemed a bit forced to me, and I think the story would have been fine without that. I also noticed myself skimming through a lot of the super descriptive parts, like pages on pages of what the house looks like. Maybe that is just a personal thing, but in a thriller like this I do not care for the grand descriptions of setting unless it is crucial to understanding the plot.

Her Perfect Twin is a fast-paced, twist filled, rollercoaster ride of a thriller. It is shocking to know this is only Sarah Bonner's debut novel. Leah and Megan are estranged identical twins. Leah has the fame and fortune Megan always dreamed of. When Megan discovers photos of Leah on her husband's phone, she goes to confront Leah and get answers. When the argument turns deadly, Megan's only choice is to become Leah if she wants to get away with it. Add in the pandemic and a lockdown, how is Megan supposed to live the lives of two people? This is a book that will keep readers on their toes. Highly recommended! Be sure to check out Her Perfect Twin today.

When Megan finds risqué photos of herself that she doesn’t recognize on her husband’s phone, she knows it can only be one person: her estranged identical twin sister Leah. When their confrontation goes a little too far, Megan has to pretend she’s Leah in order to avoid getting caught. Pretty soon, Megan is leading a double life… but how long can she get away with it?

The characterization in this novel is outstanding. I love a good “identical twin” trope, and it is SO cleverly done here. Each twin’s personality is incredibly well developed – I totally rooted for Megan even though she offed her sister, and I loved to hate Leah as much as her sister did. And don’t get me started on the husband! A truly horrible guy, and so expertly crafted that I was filled with rage at his villainous ways. Multiple POVs, unreliable narrators, and gaslighting kept me guessing about who to believe. The wink-wink breaking of the fourth wall where the narrators occasionally address the reader directly adds to the feeling of being in the characters’ heads.

Sarah Bonner’s debut thriller is twisty, dark, and intense. I know every thriller these days is described as “twisty”, but wow, this story sure was. Tons of twists and red herrings! Every time I thought I knew where the story was going – boom, another twist! Adding in the setting of the early COVID-19 pandemic to complicate Megan’s subterfuge took the twistiness to the next level. Was it all a little over the top? Maybe, but it was such a great read that I gladly suspended my disbelief.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for providing me an advance copy of this book.

Wow! This book had more twists and turns than any roller coaster I have ever been on in my life! A true definition of a psychological thriller, The Perfect Twin is the perfect recommendation for fans of The Chain, Behind Closed Doors or Silent Patient. I LOVED IT~

Megan and Leah are identical twins, now estranged after Leah betrays Megan one too many times. Now married and away from her sister's grasp, Megan no longer has to keep looking over her shoulder, worrying what else Leah will take from her. Until one day Megan discovers an incriminating picture of her sister on her husband's phone. Finally finding the courage to confront Leah, the argument turns deadly. Scrambling for a solution, Megan decides maybe she can just become Leah and live her life. She just needs to escape her husband first.

This was a solid story, with a few moments of surprise. However, I found myself speed reading at times just to get through it. Maybe it was the writing style I didn't care for. I just felt that this could have been told better since it was a good concept. Although this is a story and yes, it's made up, it still needs a little level of believability since it's not science fiction or paranormal. Without giving any spoilers, I will just say that it's a little far fetched and would never happen in the real world. That being said this was overall a good, twisty read that could of just been better. Three Stars.

Thank you Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing for this ARC.

I don’t even know how to describe how I felt reading this book. It was definitely twisty, and I couldn’t have predicted that ending!

If you are looking for a thriller that is 100% “this could really happen,” this may not be the book for you. However, if you are looking for 100% fun and entertaining, this is it! I really enjoyed this wild and twisty ride. What a wonderful debut!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this highly entertaining read. This is my unbiased review.

Her Perfect Twin was a solid debut from Sarah Bonner. I was suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat. I really liked the authors writing style and felt that the book flowed very naturally. The characters were all unlikeable and I didn’t know who to really trust. The ending was one of those perfect “what did I just read” endings, that I feel all readers will love. Great debut novel. I will definitely recommend to others. Thank you to Netgalley and to the Publisher for the ARC.

"Her Perfect Twin" is a debut novel by Sarah Bonner and it's devious! We have two identical twins Meghan and Leigh who are not on speaking terms and we soon find out why. Poor Meghan got screwed over by Leigh in the past and it has led to Leigh having fame and fortune while Meghan drawing the short straw and having a asswipe of a husband. Who apparantly is cheating on her with her sister as she finds photos of a woman on his phone in a compromising position which looks exactly like her. Except she has no clue of taking that picture. It has to be her sister?

So when she confronts her sister they start to argue and.... She accidently kills her. Whoops! Anarchy and Chaos soon show up as she has to become her sister to get away with murder.

Good: Twists galore and hateful characters. Mr. Rodgers does not make a appearance in this one as mostly everyone is on the naughty list. Especially Chris: Meghan's dooshbag husband. It was fun having Meghan become Leight and having to blend in inside a new environment.

Bad: The obvious comparison when reading the book it is a slight ripoff of "Gone Girl" in it's format. The first half is told of the POV of Meghan and it suddenly switches to Chris towards the middle and we soon find out things aren't the way they seem. Also the dialouge is somewhat clunky.... It doesn't flow organically in places and the characters just don't sound like they suppose to. Ackward?

Overall its above average and if the synopsis grabs your attention it's worth the read.

I freaking loooooved this book!!! I could not stop reading! I loved the multiple first person characters. I loved holding my breath not knowing what would happen next! I literally giggled after I gasped with the multiple WTF moments because I love those so much! And that endingggg!!! I did not predict it at all! I was so nervous that I wouldn’t like the ending but Bonner pulled through and gave me the most perfect ending EVER!
