Thank you so much for the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book I really struggled to get through it and was very slow paced for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for introducing me to Matt Coyle and the Rick Cahill series. I gather that his is the ninth in the series but it read very well as a stand alone novel. The "hero" Rick Cahill is a flawed and damaged character with recently diagnosed chronic brain condition. The thriller nicely dovetails Rick's personal and domestic issues with the excitement of the investigation which carries the story forward, A real page turner which I devoured over two days, I look forward to reading more of the backstory in the earlier novels and also look forward to hearing how Rick Cahill will move forward in his personal life in the next of the series which will be eagerly awaited

Many thanks to NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing for allowing me an eArc!
A thrilling book; I got through it pretty quickly. A former cop, currently a P.I. , tries to slow down his life after marrying and having a baby girl, but the adrenaline rush of his previous life (and his true talent) calls to him, with tragic results.
I hadn't read any of the previous books in the series but the author solidly filled in everything you need to know.
Lots of action, suspense, and California scenery.
This is for Adult readers.

The progression of private investigator Rick Cahill 's CTE is causing fits of uncontrollable rage, is a threat to his life and endangers the wellbeing of his family.
He is asked by a business associate to look into another investigation agency hired by her company. After filing his initial findings and not hearing back from her, he goes to check on her and discovers her body. While the police are labeling it as the work of a serial rapist, Cahill is convinced it has something to do with the investigation firm he was asked to look into. The more he digs, the more questions arise. Will he be able to find the killer before others die?
Fast paced, ninth in the series but works as a standalone.

A good story if you really want to get engrossed in a book, this supplies the mystery, murder and mayhem, all for the PI to work out. Never really sure if he was on the right track but I enjoyed it and kept me turning those pages.

The stakes are high in this thriller. Private investigator Rick Cahill accepts a request to look into a shady private investigative agency, and a few days later, his client is murdered. The police think her murder is connected to series of unsolved rape cases, but Rick isn't so sure. Can he find the truth, while also fighting to keep his family together?

I've not read any of the other books in the series, but had no trouble picking this one up and following the story. CTE is something I'd never heard of, but its portrayal in this novel was terrifying and heartbreaking. I truly feel for Rick, and hope he's able to find some help for his condition in future installments of the series. There were quite a few intense moments throughout the story, and it felt very well paced. What more can you ask for in a thriller?

I haven't read any of the previous books so I was a little lost in the backstory. It felt really good for a modern PI investigative piece. I felt that the build up was good and that action when they found the body was very descriptive. I would recommend this book

Doomed Legacy, by Matt Coyle, is a fast paced, engrossing PI suspense. The main character is complex and while not always easy to like, I find myself constantly rooting for him. *SSRIs (plural?) are brought up in the beginning of the book but the side effects that are described are more often associated w/older generation antidepressants, mood stabilizers, or a cocktail of psych meds. We find out later in the book that he was on more than just an SSRI, which better explains the strong side effects that were described.*
Rick Cahill is a private detective with the traumatic brain injury, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. It's affecting, not only his overall health, but also his personal relationships and his career. In the midst of all this, one of his business associates, Sara, comes to him regarding some suspicious activities she noticed in her office. Next thing he knows, she's been murdered.
The police think that she's yet another victim of a local serial rapist who's, now, escalated to murder. Rick isn't so sure and decides to investigate the crime, himself, much to his wife’s dismay. And just like that, he's dealing with a menacing private investigation agency that will do ANYTHING to protect their secrets.
Now Rick has to choose between his family or bringing a dangerous agency to justice.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

One of the many things I love about NetGalley membership is the opportunity to discover authors I wouldn't normally come across and this is one of those times.

Doomed Legacy is book 9 in a series, but, this also sits perfectly as a stand alone - although, I'll be going back and reading the other 8!

Rick Cahill is a PI with a chequered past and a family he loves and wants to protect above all else. Well, nearly all else! His work involves background checks for firms prior to their employing individuals and one of his clients contacts him with concerns. He meets her and she later shows up dead. What follows is a fast paced, thrilling read. In addition to the action, there's the issue of Rick's CTE; a disease caused by repeated head trauma and which is also affecting his mood and behaviour, much of which he believes he is hiding from his wife.

I really enjoyed the writing style, engaged with the characters and pretty much read in one sitting.

Thanks to NetGalley and Lisa at Swell Media for the opportunity to preview.

I enjoyed reading this book. The main character has flaws, and I wasn't sure if I liked him, but he is kind to animals, so he won me over. I did find his flaws were okay, and I started to think, well no one is perfect, and it probably made him more interesting to have many sides to his character. The story was good, if a bit overlong in places, but not a bad read at all.

This book was a DNF for me, not because it’s bad, but because I haven’t read the other books in the series. I believe it said it was a series but could be read as a standalone. I felt like I was missing pieces to the puzzle by reading it as a standalone. If I pick up the series as a whole at some point, I would definitely pick this up again.

A fast-paced action packed crime mystery that doesn’t hide from the realities of ex cop/PI life.

I’ve come in at book 9, but didn’t feel like I’d missed anything from the previous instalments and could grasp the gist of what happened through the subtle explanations that Coyle offered.

A PI story is not without a sinister case, and this one was right up there! As each layer was pulled back it just gets deeper and deeper into the black.

I also really enjoyed the addition of CTE, the effects, and dangers, and the causes. More needs to be broadcast loud and clear about it. How it not only affects your brain, but can change the essence of who you are. Rick’s struggles with it we’re certainly eye-opening.

Oh and I’m glad Midnight is okay. He’s the bestest boy. And that Trico still has a loving family. Priorities people!

Thank you to Matt Coyle, Oceanview Publishing, and NetGalley for an invitation read to this book. I’m highly intrigued about the rest of the series now.

Quick chapters kept me reading, steady build of mounting tension and satisfying ending. Not a mystery for the reader to figure out even though there was a mystery for the characters. Unique first person narrator by being a person with CTE.

Classic detective, mystery - protagonist is battling demons. In this case, he has a disease (CTE)that causes him to rage out of control. It scares his wife, who take their child and herself to visit her parents. Meanwhile, a client asks for help and then turns up dead. Rick needs to find out what is going on. The deeper he digs, the more sinister information he finds out about a shell company that is behind all of this. A company that is also trying to ruin his, and his colleagues, reputations. Can he get his answers without destroying his marriage?

I received Doomed Legacy as an ARC in exchange for my review and it's the second in the series of Rick Cahill that I have read. In both cases I found that I could not really find anything redeeming in the character, and not in a way that the character has a fatal flaw way. I also found the story itself a bit plodding and I found the situations the characters get themselves in is too convenient and unbelievable.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Rick was recently diagnosed with cte. He notices that it does not take much to make him angry. A woman he knows is murdered and Rick does not think that it us the work of a serial killer. It will take everything he has to find the killer. This book kept me engrossed from the start.

I really did struggle with this.

Whether it was due to not having read any of the previous books, I do not know.

I found the story line slow and the characters unbelievable.

This was not for me.

I was offered Matt Coyle’s “Doomed Legacy” to read, as an advanced reader copy. I hesitated, at first, as I did read his book “Wrong Light”, as an ARC, back in 2018 and was nonplussed. But since I was given the courtesy, I decided to read it. Although it was entertaining, my feelings about Rick Cahill, have not changed. He’s still a “train wreck.” With deference to Matt Coyle, I understand this is Rick’s character. He’s been a cop, a P.I., been shot three times and recovered, and now he does background checks and vets potential employees for large companies. It’s a job involving a desk, a chair and a computer. But Rick can’t stay out of the fray, even if it means compromising his new found family life. Hence, the search for a murderer. Interesting plot and Rick’s good friend Moira and his dog Midnight, add to the storyline. Thank you NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own. #DoomedLegacy #NetGalley #Bookstagram.

Wow! Wow! Wow! It is 2 am, and I just had to finish Doomed Legacy. This book hooked me from the very beginning and kept me eagerly turning pages to find out what would happen next. When I couldn't read it, I was thinking and talking about it. Doomed Legacy would make a great movie. It'll also make a great Christmas gift for several people in my life!

Rick Cahill is trying to lead as quiet a life as he can. He spends most of his days doing background checks by the way of his computer. His life with his wife and child are what makes him want to go on. But Rick is having more and more trouble containing the rage inside him that comes from the CTE (the disease of NFL players with multiple concussions) he and the Doctors are sure he suffers.

When he explodes at Leah and scares their daughter Kristi, Leah takes off to her parents home in Santa Barbara. Rick is devastated that this uncontrollable rage is what is tearing their lives apart.
Rick gets involved with a problem with one of his clients who are working with a new firm doing the background checks he usually does. There just something odd about this new company.

For me reading this novel and watching how it proceeds seems just a way for Rick to get involved in an artificial situation that allows him to lose his temper at other people who turn out to bad guys and then get him involved with murder and mayhem. The whole novel is like a bad "Dirty Harry" movie, with violence being the mainstay of the book.
