A fun memoir of Sona's experience being Conan O'Brien's assistant and then podcast cohost. It's a fun and engaging read.

I'm starting a new job as Executive Assistant in a couple of weeks and wanted some levity. This book did not disappoint! Sona Movsesian has worked as Conan O'Brien's assistant since 2009. Though I wasn't familiar with her, I figured this book would be funny since O'Brien has one of the brightest comedic minds and he clearly has a lot of admiration for Movsesian. This was such a fun read that had me laughing so loud at points. I flew through the audiobook when I received it from the library. The author brilliantly narrates it herself, so you really get a sense for her humor and personality. Despite being the "World's Worst Assistant," I did glean some helpful advice: always be yourself, and have confidence in what you do, and don't stress too much about the small stuff. Definitely pick this one up if you're a Conan fan or just want something fun and hilarious to read!

The World’s Worst Assistant had me crying with laughter! Sona Movaesian always wanted to work in television. She has many different jobs trying to lay the bills and eventually she works her way into a job as an executive assistant to Conan O’Brien. Sona shares a few stories about Conan and how they were together during his change in networks. There’s one great section about how Conan is inspired to take his show to Armenia because of Sona’s background. It was one of the highest rated episodes of the show and it was very meaningful to Sona to see her homeland and share her culture. They worked so well, that after his show is over they now have a podcast together.

She spends a good portion of the short book on dating in LA. She goes on 4 absolutely terrible dates with the same guy! It’s incredible that she kept going out this horrible guy. Luckily this leads to some great stories!

This is a hysterical book perfect if you enjoyed Colin Jost or Mindy Kaling’s memoirs. It is definitely a lighter read that I appreciated.

Thank you so much to @duttonbooks @prhaudio and @sonamov for the gifted ebook. The World’s Worst Assistant is on sale now!

I love the Sona and Conan dynamic and am a big fan, and when I saw this book had come out, it shot to the top of my to read list. There were laugh out loud moments and behind the scenes excerpts that really illustrate how Sona and Conan work together so well and yet so terrible at the same time. You will appreciate this book even if you’re not familiar with them, but I recommend looking up some clips online of the two of them from their show before diving into this fun memoir.

I'm a huge fan of the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, and have loved Sona's appearances on Conan's shows. This book is a lot of fun because Sona's voice comes through so clearly in her writing. A lot of the writing is very silly and really nails the tone of being the world's worst assistant. However, there's a lot in the book that shows the friendship between Conan and Sona and it gives good insight into what it's like to work behind the scenes in Hollywood even if it's couched in not doing any work at all. The book is really meant for fans of the podcast and Conan's show since Sona is such a fan favorite. It would be harder to enjoy for people who aren't familiar with their dynamic.

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Dutton, Plume for an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This book was a funny, honest look at both working in the entertainment industry and working for Conan, a public figure whom I've admired from his time on air. Sona is a self-proclaimed 'World's Worst Assistant' a badge of honor that she wears with pride, while she has been able to keep her boss happy and step up when needed. It's a fun memoir with personal stories woven in, cute cartoons and anecdotes about Conan, who seems as lovely and fun in person as he presents himself on TV and in his podcast. A must-read for all Conan / Sona fans.

What a fun read! I’ve long been a fan of all things Conan, and Sona’s new book had me smiling from beginning to end. She explains the history of how she came to be Conan’s assistant up to present day events, using words and cartoons.
This was a quick and hilarious read, yet also touching. Despite the sibling-like teasing, it’s clear how much affection these two have for each other. It was lovely to read Sona’s recollections of the many times Conan acted the gentleman, which seems so rare in the entertainment business.
Highly recommended.

My thanks to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP, Dutton for access to a digital ARC.

This was such a fun read about Sona and her time as Conan O'Brien's assistant. It was very funny and I loved all the little stories about working for Conan. She's a hilarious writer, and should give herself more credit as an assistant!!

Yes, Sona!! This was a quick, fun book that will appeal to fans of Sona, Conan and their friendship. Lots of behind-the-scenes tidbits and stories from their time together. I especially enjoyed hearing Sona's perspective on creating the Armenia episode of Conan Without Borders.

EASILY one of my top five books of 2022! I was so excited to receive a copy of THE WORLD'S WORST ASSISTANT on release day. I read it in one sitting. I live in LA and I am an Executive Assistant: I've been in this line of work for about the same amount of time Sona Movsesian has been Conan O'Brien's assistant. I've always loved and admired her presence in Conan's orbit ( and couldn't wait to get to know her better. Sona's new book is incredible, I laughed out loud and related harder to this book than any real life book I think I've ever read. I don't work in entertainment, but I was screaming internally as she illustrated so many of the things that make me both a great EA and a lazy ass - from her humble beginnings with work naps at an odd retail job (for Sona, sleeping behind a watch counter; I would sleep on the floor of a Sunglass Hut back room), step by step guide to watching TV at work (I'm streaming horror movies to my phone while Sona's watching a literal TV - perks of working in actual TV), reveling in the opulence of paid travel, talking about lunch, thinking about lunch, frequent trips back and forth to the kitchen... it goes on. I also loved her stories of time on the road with Conan, their email exchanges and a look into what makes them such a dynamic duo. I aspire to be more like Sona (i.e. a WORSE assistant?!) and to one day have a boss as cool and annoying as Conan.

A huge ten out of ten for Sona, congratulations on this excellent book, winning National Speech Champion in 2003 and solidifying your place at the very front of the Terrible Assistant Mount Rushmore. I hope to have my photo taken in front of you some day.

I have been a fan of Conan through all iterations of his show and now podcast and my love for Sona was cemented during the Gigolos mug situation. This book was a fun read and a nice glimpse into Sona's experiences in television, as well as the strong bond between her and Conan. A must for fans of the show(s).

This was a great humor/memoir book, and it was just the right length. I've loved Movsesian's public persona ever since she started appearing in small bits on the Conan O'Brien show, and as she's become more of a fixture on his podcasts, etc., her own brand of wry humor became more and more apparent. It's awesome to be able to get fully 'her' humor here.

As a fan of the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, I enjoyed getting to know Sona a little more. However, with a Title like World's Worst Assistant, I was expecting it to be a little punchier-- both in jokes and shared anecdotes, though I enjoyed most of what I read.

I enjoy watching Sona and Conan on both the show and podcast, and was happy to see that Sona had a book. It was a great, humorous read. This is definitely one that would be great as an audiobook narrated by the author.

I am a huge fan of Conan and have come to love Sona, too. I was so excited when I saw this book, and it didn't disappoint. While the writing is a bit clunky, the story is told tenderly and honestly. I have been a fan of Conan's for a long time, and it sounds like he is exactly the human I expected and hoped he would be. Sona's care for her boss, and her appreciation for the experiences she's had because of him shine through. It was a fun, quick read.

Thank you to NetGalley for a galley copy of this book.. My opinions are my own.

I was not a fan of this book. It was so low-stakes that I could not keep myself from feeling aggrieved that the author was complaining at all.
