One of the sweetest manga I've read. Yagi eating the books without him noticing he was doing it. Adorable. The whole setting was so soft with a hint of something a bit darker but never too much. Carnivores and herbivores live in different parts of the city but it's not that they can't visit. It's a very cute world building and I loved the two MCs and how they got together.
The art was so cute to look at and the translation was perfect.

Yagi the Bookshop Goat by Fumi Furkawa was absolutely adorable. The characters, the art work, the story, I'll be buying myself a copy of this sweet and steamy manga for my shelf when it releases.

This land is divided into a herbivore section and a carnivore section. Yagi the goat just wants to work in a bookshop, but not many people want to hire someone whose going to be eating the merchandise. His boss , a wolf named Ookami, hires him for his love of reading and his ability to smell and taste the stories written. When Ooakami forces him to take 2 weeks after an incident, he's more determined than ever to work at the carnivore bookshop and not just because of new feelings between him and his boss.

Yagi was absolutely precious and I loved the relationship storyline for him and Ookami, which had a bit of a second chance aspect to it. Don't let the fluffy synopsis and cute artwork fool you though, this is an adult manga with Yagi going into what I would compare to as "omega heat" after eating notes written by Ookami causing him to feel the sexual attraction/yearning he feels. I was here for the consent and prep when it came to the intimate scene, which isn't usually present in Yaoi.

Story: The story itself is really cute and wholesome. I never read a book with a herbivore/carnivore setting before but this was really relaxing and cutely done. I loved how they played with the character actually behaving as a goat in a bookshop and giving him extra features which made the herbivore/carnivore setting easy to understand and perfect for this story. There's not really any drama in this one which I loved a lot. I only wish was if there had been a bit more time for the main character to realize his love before confessing. But I enjoy that the seme/top was in love first and how he always cared for the uke/bottom.
4.75/5

Art: The art style was super cute and really fitted the wholesomeness and cuteness of the story. It reminded me of many slice of life manga that are just told in short chapters and the vibe of this manga was similar (except there's a contineous story).
4/5

This was an adorable and light Yaoi manga that had a really interesting world, but not much depth beyond it. Yagi is a goat who likes to eat books and can taste the stories inside and the feelings of the authors. Ookami is his Wolf manager at the bookstore. A hidden backstory and love ensues between an adorable herbivore and a gruff but sweet carnivore.

You’ll get what you want from a yaoi, a cute story with some steamy times, but there’s not much to make you really connect to or route for the characters. Which is unfortunate, because the author created a really interesting world with separated but co-existing herbivores and carnivores - almost like Beastar vibes, but it didn’t end up going anywhere.

Short, sweet, Yagi the Bookshop Goat is not a fave, but I still had a good time.

My first impression of this manga was that it was really cute. I love the art style. It's very gentle and not too complicated. I love the setting. It is similar to Zootopia but a lot less danger. The story revolves around Yagi whose dream is to work in a bookshop which is difficult since goats are known to eat paper and books. However, his unique ability to taste flavors behind words catches the eyes of other animals. Mostly you will see the budding relationship between him and Ookami who is a wolf and owns the bookstore that Yagi is employed at.

The storyline is pretty smooth. There are some flashback episodes that I enjoyed, however, they did not flow with the story very well. It was a bit confusing before I realized it was a quick flashback. I feel like a chapter dedicated to the flashbacks would have made the story flow a bit better. Warning, this manga does get a bit ~spicy~. While I do love spice myself, I do feel it was a sudden tone change from the cute lighthearted tone the book had throughout most of its progression. For once, I think it would have been perfect without the spice, but it did not ruin the experience for me. If you like a little bit of extra spice you may enjoy the scene/ However, it is skippable if you only want fluffy cuteness.

Yagi is a classic cinnamon roll character. They are adorable and very innocent. They are also a bit of a crybaby. I do really enjoy cinnamon roll characters. I think they are a bit refreshing. While Yagi can be a bit oblivious when it comes to his own feelings, he can be very observant and consistently strives to do better (when he's not accidentally eating the inventory). For a short story, I felt his character was developed nicely.

Ookami is the grumpy character we all know and love that is in contrast with the cinnamon roll. I love this kind of story trope, but it isn't for everyone. While he is a bit of a grump he wasn't mean to Yagi and didn't bully him unnecessarily which I really like. I enjoyed his maturity that you don't see with many grumpy or hot-tempered characters.

There weren't many other noticeable characters due to it being a shorter story. They were mainly used to move the plot forward. However, they were developed that if this were turned into a series, I would definitely be interested in them.

Overall, despite the spice scene and the poorly timed flashbacks, this was a very enjoyable quick read that definitely worth your time if you enjoy a really cute romance. It will definitely lift your mood and make your heart gush. If not, then I'm a weirdo and apologize in advance.

18+ Yagi the bookshop goat is a pretty standard yaoi (boys love) erotic manga. It's quite wholesome and the art style is very cute. The main characters are an anthropomorphized goat and wolf. Very standard one shot yaoi manga, so if that is your thing, I'm sure you'll like it!

In a Nutshell: An unusual story in manga format with anthropomorphic animals and forbidden feelings. Mind you, the story is cute but part of the content is R-rated.

Story:
The setting is a peaceful world divided in two camps, carnivores and herbivores. Each category sticks to their side of the city unless there’s a genuine need to go to the other.
Yagi is a goat who loves books and dreams of working in a bookstore. Unfortunately, as a goat, he also loves to eat books, which is why no herbivore bookshop is willing to give him a job. In desperation, he tries his hand at the bookshop in the carnivore section. To his surprise, Ookami, the scary wolf bookstore manager, gives him a job willingly. Will Yagi be able to do justice to his new employment? Will he still eat books? Will he be in danger from the carnivores that surround him? Why did Ookami offer a job to a book-eating herbivore? Read and find out.

The story was MOSTLY very cute. I loved the initial chapters where the characters of Yagi and Ookami are established clearly. Their relationship develops nicely as the story proceeds and I was MOSTLY happy with the entire content. Yagi’s funny relationship with books is the best part of the story. He loves books by reading them as well as by eating them.

What I didn’t know while requesting the book that this is what is called a ‘Yaoi’ manga, a genre that contains homoerotic relationships between male characters. I am okay with books about romantic relationships between two males but boy, I was not prepared for the erotica! I try to stay away from anything remotely steamy, so to see…errr…. you know…male dangly bits, and the characters indulging in … ahem… activities I wasn’t mentally prepared for, I was, to put it mildly, scandalised. This was even worse because the erotic scenes came out of nowhere. Part one, squeaky clean and adorably cute. Part two, begins squeaky clean and then Bammm! You are hit with the shocker, accompanied with tiny textual add-ons saying “DRIP” and “JERK” and “SQUEEZE”. Yikes!
(In fact, I was planning to read this comic with my manga-loving daughter. As she was away on a school trip, I decided to begin it without her. Thank God for that!)

Other than the erotic content, I have no complaints with the book. This was true manga in its style, with its black and white illustrations, right-to-left koma, over-the-top facial expressions at times, and typical depictions of one male as masculine and the other male with more dainty and feminine features. The anthropomorphism works wonderfully for the story.

All in all, I didn't like the few scenes that are overly sexual but that's because of my personal preference. For those who don’t mind such content, this is definitely a book I would recommend, especially to mm romance lovers.

4 stars from me. (Which would have 4.5 if those scenes weren’t there. I really loved the rest of the story and I still feel those scenes weren’t necessary to the plot.)

My thanks to Tokyopop and NetGalley for the DRC of “Yagi the Bookshop Goat”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

This was super cute and original!!! I absolutely adored the animal-like characters, especially Yagi. What a cutie!! His relationship with Ookami is super sweet and easy to love. That and the setting is a bookshop!! What’s not to like about that?!?!

The art was really good and I loved seeing the different iterations of animals, especially the goats and the cheetah. How adorable!!! Ookami was cute too, but in an, oh my, kind of way.

For some reason, I am just super into gay manga, so this was seriously right up my alley. It is explicit, so if that bothers you, steer clear. Otherwise, I highly recommend this to gay romance lovers who enjoy good art and adorable characters!!

Thanks so much to NetGalley, Tokyopop, and Fumi Furukawa for the opportunity to read this for my honest and unbiased review!!

I received a free digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Yagi the Bookshop Goat has a cute premise in a world that plays fast and loose with concepts of separate-but-equal for herbivores and carnivores. Some of it is simple enough (the herbivore side of town, for example) but then there's the more dubious ones like a carnivore getting adopted by herbivores, or that one carnivore basically attacking an herbivore and still being around them later in the book. The main strength of this book is probably the fact that it's a standalone book, so you don't have to think too about why certain things happened, or having to collect all the volumes, but I feel like it's a concept that's been done better by other titles. If you can stick with "It's cute!" (even though it does have some sexually explicit sections, then you will probably be more into this than I am.

This was the wholesome BL that I needed in my life!
The art style is really cute and the characters are adorable as well. I'm glad that there weren't really any big conflicts or any bad guys in this manga, I don't really like that... Give me all the fluffiness and soft feelings thank you!

It does have some smut, so I cannot buy it physically... But yeah it was still a nice and fast read!

This is seriously so sweet! I am in love! I am pre-ordering this for my personal collection like RIGHT NOW.
Just perfect for lovers of Zootopia or Beastars. I'm usually not into anthro but the characters are adorable and the story is cute and endearing. I can't get enough

This is such a cute read! If you like grumpy sunshine trope, then this is for you.

Yagi is so adorable. I love that he never gave up on his dream and how I wish I have the same talent as him.

What I also love about this is the unique plot and they have such a cute backstory. However, I don't like the age gap between Yagi and Ookami, it just makes me uncomfortable.

Thank you Netgalley and Tokyopop for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Unlike my usual fare of bl manga, this one wasn’t dripping in angst and pining affection. It was unsurprisingly as adorable as the cover and name suggest. Yagi the Bookshop Goat had a cute story, cute art, and a cute concept. All combined, it was a sugar overload worthy of five stars!
Just for people unfamiliar with the various manga genres, Yagi the Bookshop Goat is a kemonomimi story. Meaning it features mostly humanoid characters that happen to have a few animal traits (ears, tails, some behaviours, etc.). In this world, Yagi is a goat who has a dream of working in a bookshop because of his love of literature. Unfortunately, as much as he loves books, he also happens to eat them. His stern wolf manager, Ookami, is left to contend with this and the many customers the adorable Yagi attracts. Overall the story was very sweet, and had me smiling the entire time I was reading it.
Now, I know you’re probably thinking that this sounds like a very lovely children’s story, because when I first requested it, I was unsure if it was for a younger demographic or if it contained sexual content. While I knew I could enjoy it either way, I want to be clear that this book is for adults.
I think the biggest selling point for me is the art in this. It is just so pretty that it makes me want to seek out more work from Fumi Furukawa just for their drawing style alone. Yagi the Bookshop Goat was also so different and sweet compared to my usual manga reads that it was an instant pick me up, and just put me in a better mood for the rest of the day.
After reading this I immediately messaged @genkireader to recommend it to her. So, if you like over the top sweet bl, I suggest picking this one up ASAP!

Yagi the Bookshop Goat

This BL is a wholesome one shot with a slight sprinkle of spice. Thinking back on how much I loved “The Cat Proposed”, I figured this one being about a Goat and Wolf would be sweet and wholesome as well.

I loved the whole carnivore/ herbivore love trope that went on, it reminded me of Beastars a bit, but without the whole “I want to devour” you thing. I mean Yagi did get devoured but not in that way 🫣😉 This has a lot of humor in it and the side characters are hilarious, my favorite being Chita-San, I’m sure you can guess what animal she is lol. This BL doesnt just stay sweet, comedic, and wholesome though, there’s an incident where things get what some might call “dark”. Regardless the ending wraps things up nicely making this a very enjoyable one shot!

Okay this is such a 5/5 star manga. The story was extremely cute and the characters are so lovable. I loved how original the plot is because I feel like so much of the time romance animes can get a bit dull. This one has such a cute fantasy aspect and even a little bit of spice! I feel like this is probably a one shot but I would do anything for more volumes with these adorable characters. The dialog was entertaining and funny, the art incredible and all the little moments just made reading it even that more enjoyable.

There is two zones the carnivore zone and herbivore zone. Yagi, a goat, is a bookstore clerk in the carnivore zone. This is rare for a goat to be a bookstore clerk, let alone in the carnivore zone, because they love to eat paper. His boss, Ookami, is a wolf that is always getting on him for eating the books. However, Yagi has a unique ability when he eats a book and he sets up his section based off of it. All the employees love Yagi and he helps the store draw in more customers.

Even though Ookami thinks Yagi forgot about him from before, he really cares about Yagi and even went to the lengths of trying to find him a safer bookstore to work at after an incident happened. Although Yagi doesn't want to work at any other store besides Ookami's. One day he eats some paper Ookami had prepared and never tasted anything that good. Now he can't stop eating everything Ookami writes on. Then Chita has him eat a pervy magazine, which makes Yagi realize something.

I love how the art is with Ookami and Yagi happy/blushing. As a warning, it does heat up in the second half. It moves along nicely without having the reader wondering how the two main characters are connected or having awkward jumps in time. I was satisfied with how the story progressed and ended in this onshot.

I received an advanced reader copy of Yagi the Bookshop Goat by Fumi Furukawa in exchange for an honest review.

I am a big fan of yaoi/BL manga, so when I saw this book available through NetGalley I had to request it. This was my first time reading an anthropomorphic manga, meaning the characters are humanized animals. So when I say the protagonist is a goat, he's really a human with goat ears and horns.

Yagi the Bookshop Goat is about a goat named Yagi who works at a bookstore. This is novel profession in this world, because goats are notorious for eating paper, to the point where most bookstores ban goat people from even entering. But one store owner, a wolf named Ookami, takes a chance on Yagi, and soon develops feelings for him.

I really enjoyed reading this manga. Yagi was an adorable protagonist, always anxious about abstaining from nibbling on books and trying his best to impress his boss. Ookami was an excellent love interest, being mysterious and with a past for Yagi to discover. Ookami has obvious feelings for Yagi from the beginning, and it was amusing to witness how oblivious Yagi was, and how he slowly came to the realization that their feelings were mutual.

This book's art was really well done. I liked the designs of the characters, and Yagi especially had very animated expressions. Yagi the Bookshop Goat is sweet and funny, and an exemplary representation of the genre. Thank you to TOKYOPOP's Love x Love department and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy.

This was absolutely adorable. It has a very unique twist on the childhood friends to lovers trope and was executed beautifully. The pacing was done very well considering the length and all in all the mood was so sweet. This is definitely a new favourite.
