I loved the premise of this book with the hostage negotiator. I think the pressure of Julianna added a lot to her character. I did feel like this book had too many storylines happening and it was a little hard to keep everything aligned. I miss lynettes books where she just had two characters and their stories.

I was looking for an novel — one that would immediately grab my attention and keep me turning the pages. Crossfire by Lynette Eason, book 2 in the romantic suspense series Extreme Measures, did just that. From the opening I was swept up in the stories of Juliana Jameson and Clay Fox. Juliana is a hostage negotiator with the FBI, and her cases turn into something very personal. The action is non-stop and filled with twists and turns. I liked how the characters and this reader were kept off balance by the bad guys. The book was a puzzler! Themes include guilt, blame, and forgiveness. Some characters find healing; others are swept up in bitterness. While the experiences of the characters are extreme to say the least, the themes speak to the reader’s own views on what can be forgiven and what cannot, including in our own lives.

I was pleased with myself for being up-to-date on the Extreme Measures series, but just learned book 4 is in the works. Yay! Another great book to look forward to.

Recommended.

Audience: Adults.

Much like its predecessor, Crossfire starts off with a bang and doesn’t really ease up until the very end. It’s not quite as creepy as Life Flight but it’s no less intense. And how could it be with a hostage negotiator and a former Army ranger as its heroine and hero, respectively? The high-stakes action turns deeply personal for first Clay and then Julianna as their younger sisters are each unwittingly targeted by a villain or villains with some vendettas to settle. I thought Clay’s sister and Julianna’s sister – and the friendship that develops between them – added extra layers and heart to the story, and I enjoyed getting to know them almost as much as I did Clay & Julianna.

Speaking of our fearless protagonists, Eason does a fabulous job of teasing out their respective backstories and the painful secrets each one has been carrying protectively for much too long. She also keeps just out of reach the information readers need to determine if either – or both – of these secrets are the motives behind the murders and whomever seems to be stalking Julianna. Or maybe it’s Clay’s sister that’s being stalked. Or maybe it’s Julianna’s sister. All I knew for sure was that it wasn’t Clay on the other end of the vengeance motive. Maybe. (lol) Just when you think you’ve figured it out, I can promise you that you don’t. Or maybe you do. Honestly, I gave up trying to stay a step ahead of Clay & Julianna about halfway through Crossfire and just went wherever the author took them… and I enjoyed every bit of the expert storytelling, especially the moment when all the pieces finally fell into place!

Bottom Line: Faith, friendship, and falling in love – along with a hefty dose of deliciously creepy & masterfully drawn suspense – are the hallmarks of Lynette Eason’s books in general and the Extreme Measures series specifically, and Crossfire fits the bill perfectly. Clay and Julianna, and their respective sisters, are easily likeable and even relatable, despite the constant danger in which they find themselves. Appearances from Julianna’s best friends (whom we met in book 1) and the quickly-developing romance between Clay & Julianna add warmth to the eerie cold chills that envelop this read, as does the underlying theme of forgiveness. Another book that will keep you on your toes and frantically turning the pages as you get ever closer to the final showdown!

WHAT A RIDE!
I really enjoyed this romantic suspense. The characters stand out the most. Julianna and her sister Dottie had a dynamic sister relationship that felt realistic. Clay and Reese were cute too. I loved how the two younger sisters brought Clay and Julianna together. Nice slow growth of friendship and budding feelings between them.

The mystery was even interesting. Lol I say it that way because I find romantic suspense redundant and boring sometimes. But this one kept my interest and I thought the resolution was satisfying.

I'm excited to continue this series for sure!

A Thrilling new story! Eason does a fabulous job of weaving suspense plots together. So much action and excitement! I love how talented she was at creating this world and making it and the characters tangible.

This story is intense. But despite meeting during extreme circumstances, Julianna and Clay’s relationship is sweet. Clay helps Julianna unpack her past from a time when she was on the flip side of a hostage situation. This story has the right balance of action, romance and drama. This is definitely a must for suspense fans!

Lynette Eason has just added another fabulous read to her repertoire! Crossfire is the second book in the Extreme Measures series and it features Juliana Jameson, hostage negotiator, and Clay Fox, school resource officer. They are drawn together during a bizarre court house hostage situation. Juliana is of course the negotiator but Clay is only there because his sister is inside and one of the hostages.

As the story unfolds it becomes apparent that Juliana and her younger sister Dottie are being targeted by a deranged criminal. But who is behind it and why? We're allowed to see events from the past that have been thrust into the present as a looming anniversary draws near. What's always thrilling with an Eason book is that you don't have all the pieces of the puzzle until the very end.

If you've never read a book from Lynette Eason this would be a good series to start with. It features interesting characters and complex plots that we have all become accustomed to. I have yet to be disappointed in any of her stories. In fact I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

This book is insane. Another great mystery from Lynette Eason. You will not want to miss this story about Julianna Jameson and her sister Dottie. You will recognize characters from past novels and get to know them a bit better.

Julianna James is a top notch FBI hostage negotiator, who is also raising her younger sister, Dottie who is a senior in high school. Clay Snyder, former army sniper ended his military career after a tragic incident he cannot let go of.

Their paths cross when Julianna is called in to negotiate a courtroom hostage situation, and Clay's sister is able to communicate via text what is going on inside the courtroom. As Clay is also the school resource officer for Dottie's high school, Clay and Juliana's paths begin to cross often - especially because Dottie and Clay's sister become fast friends.

As the anniversary of a school shooting from Julianna's past draws near, situations keep cropping up during hostage situations that cause her to question her ability to keep herself and her sister safe. The person behind these attacks is a complete mystery. Clay finds himself drawn to Juliana and he convinces her to let him help her keep Dottie and herself safe.

Lynette Eason is easily one of my favorite authors! This story was full of suspense, romance, and had a mystery that kept me guessing until the end! I loved getting to read about characters first introduced in Life Flight. This story kept me turning pages until the very end. I couldn't put it down!

I love Lynette Eason's books, so I enjoyed reading this one and going through a difficult hostage situation. Both characters have heartache they are working though, which adds layers to this story. A wonderful mystery to pick up and enjoy!

Another classic Lynette Eason! I really enjoyed this story. In true Eason fashion, the action is non-stop and has you turning pages late into the night. I really enjoyed both these characters and their backstories and can't wait for the next one!

I enjoyed this suspense-filled book. I liked the character development and the action. I thought the author did a good job of humanizing the tortured sub-villain; I felt bad for all that had led up to the choices made in becoming the villain. I'm looking forward to the third book in the set. I recommend these for anyone who likes suspense, crime, and a side of clean romance.

I follow the GoodReads rating system (3=good, 5=phenomenal + want to re-read several times) not the Amazon one (only 5 is acceptable.)

A suspenseful thriller around feelings of guilt and forgiving yourself. I love how faith is mentioned effortless within the story.

Wow! This book was intense and so incredible! I love Lynette Eason's books so much because I know that everytime I pick one up, I'm guaranteed to be sucked in right away and held there until the story is finished.
The characters had such depth and felt so real. I love the way they overcame their struggles together, and with the help of Jesus. The way Eason weaves faith, suspense, and romance together in one amazing story is always fantastic.

Hostage negotiator stories always intrigue me because their abily to talk people down is so impressive. I also really appreciate people who do jobs that save lives so this was a good book.

I was really impressed with both Clay and Julianna professionally and I like how they became friends pretty naturally. The romantic relationship did move a little fast for my taste, but I still enjoyed it.

The parts written from the point of view of Felicity felt a little extra to me, but I did like the forgiveness storyline.

Unfortunate this book ended in a way that keeps me from giving it as high of a rating as I hoped to. It didn't really have an epilogue, but it's equivalent threw me.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review

The beginning was very confusing switching between characters, but it is explained later in the book so keep reading. The book is a super suspenseful book with plenty of faith. There are not any Bible verses and the way is not laid out. The characters just make it clear that they know the way and are praying. Having said that O enjoyed the book and the way it portrayed forgiveness.
I recieved a free copy so that I might tell you what I honestly think. Hope you enjoyed my review. Now go enjoy the book.

Crossfire is the second book in Lynette Eason's Extreme Measures series. Somehow I missed this until I had finished the book, and will have to go back and read the first novel, Life Flight, asap!

Julianna Jameson's life as a FBI special agent is never dull, and now that her younger sister, Dottie, has shown up to live with her, it's only going to get busier. Clay Fox left his job as a military sniper to become a resource officer at a local school. When his sister is involved in a hostage situation, Clay rushes to the location where he meets the hostage negotiator, Julianna. As the anniversary of a tragic event from Julianna's past approaches, things begin to come to a head, and Clay and Juliana will have to work together to make sure no lives are lost.

I loved this book! I enjoyed the switch in characters from the typical law enforcement roles. I don't think I've ever read a book about a school resource officer before and had to look it up to see what the job entailed. The plot was top-notch and kept me guessing til the very end. As always, Eason brings as a thrilling novel jam-packed with excitement, faith, and romance. I cannot wait to see what she has planned for book three!

A killer hides in the shadows...

I've been doing a fun reading challenge this year and Crossfire was one of my reads. It was already on my want-to-read list from the moment I finished the first book in Lynette Eason's exciting romantic suspense series, Extreme Measures.

While, I probably did like the first book a tad better, Crossfire was also very good. Lynette Eason kept me on the edge of my seat and glued to the pages. It usually takes me a couple of days to finish one of her books but this one I finished in half that time. The stakes were high and the tension just kept ratcheting up the further I got into this second Extreme Measures book and I was anxious to know if my guesses and half guesses were correct as to the who and why behind the danger surrounding Julianna and her sister Dottie.

I liked the semi-switch in careers for the hero and heroine in this story, she is a hostage negotiator instead of the usual agent, and Clay is school resource officer, which, I think may be the first time that I've run into as the hero in my reading. I will confess, though, it was the hostage negotiation that really intrigued me the most.

There were a couple of unexpected POVs in Crossfire, one of which really puzzled me at first but by the end of the story it all made sense and I think the inclusion of them really helped the story move forward.

Each of the Extreme Measures novels is somewhat standalone, there are a few small spoilers, but I can't see a good reason to miss any of them. I for one, will be waiting on tenterhooks for Lynette Eason's next book in the series to release, because, one way or another, I will be reading it...

Intriguing and exciting Christian romantic suspense. Things kept on happening. Just when I thought it was all over except for the happily ever after once again I was wrong. Fun ending too. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
