I am so torn about this book; I really enjoyed our characters but at times it just felt a little slow for my taste. I just found myself wanting more.

3.5 stars

Beth and Matt are not friends, that's for sure, at the beginning of the novel. That's a quite an unusual start for a book about a bridesmaid and a best man in charge of completely planning together a wedding.

They are both very attaching characters, and it's really well written how their relationship evolves into love.

I really liked that Matt was the one with an eating disorder (and not another female character struggling with food!)

This book probably lost 1.5 star for me because of the abundance of characters and secondary plots (Matt's dad's situation, Matt's relationship with his stepbrother, Beth and Matt's mothers, Megan's wedding in LV...).

Thank you to Netgalley and Canelo Escape for providing an eARC in exchange of an honest review.

This book was a thrilling ride from the beginning. The author’s style places the reader in the book in each scene for an entertaining journey. Awe-inspiring . . . The characters are so well drawn and the plot so well paced, I couldn’t put it down.

I loved this book, talk about messed up families, this pair have it all, from the grandad in prison to the father who wants his new girlfriend beside his wife at the top table during the wedding, throw in a grandmother who goes missing on Bodmin moor and the humour ignites. Despite all this our hero and heroine go from dislike to managing to fall in love. Well written romance.

Thank you Tracy Corbett & Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

This book was a delight to read! Beth & Matt seemed like polar opposites, but once they started getting to know each other, they both found themselves to be kindred spirits, especially in their loyalty, love and dedication to their respective families. The slow burn is real though, which did frustrate me a bit, especially when they kept getting interrupted by some family drama or the other, but the hilarity that ensued with said interuptions soothed my despair.

Speaking of families, I thought mine got up to crazy shenanigans, but Beth and Matt's clearly take the cake, and I enjoyed reading every second of it! They were all unapologetically themselves, and they got up to some serious antics that Beth & Matt were left to manage, which made for a funny, laugh out loud read. I especially loved the underlying theme of empowerment and building one's self-esteem for the mums in the story, and I'm glad they each found their happily ever afters in their own special ways.

If you're a fan of fun rom-coms, family & wedding shenanigans and an opposite's attract romance, then this is the book for you!

I had really high hopes for this book and it did not meet my expectations. I felt like too much was crammed into one book, whereas this could have made a great series about the families, it was just too crammed in for one book. Also the timelines were so broad, going from one week to another character really made you click with one character

‘And we all know what happens between the maid of honour and the best man at weddings, don’t we?’

Well Beth & Matt were cute together and some moments between them were really sweet but this book was nothing special. Still, it was a good plot. The amount of family drama was so high that sometimes I just lost interest. There were detailed chapters about Beth's mother and the drama going on in her life and that kind of overshadowed Matt & Beth's storyline. Matt & Beth had so much potential not only as a couple but as individual characters too and it would've been nice if some parts of their life had been explored in detail rather than focusing so much on the unnecessary family drama. But overall, it was a cute and entertaining read.

Thank you Netgalley and Canelo Escape for the ARC

Gosh there is a lot to unpack here. Let’s start with the good - it’s a very well written novel, the characters are well rounded (if a little too many in number) and the dialogue is great. The storyline is also promising, an enemies to lovers trope, stuck planning a wedding that isn’t theirs, it’s a joyful plot.

However, there are some things I just couldn’t look past. The novel tackles male anorexia nervosa, fatphobia, drug, childhood trauma, manslaughter and suggests at domestic violence. It’s a lot to unpack and I feel the fatphobia and anorexia theme was poorly handled and didn’t hit the mark and wasn’t resolved adequately at all. The nail in the coffin for me is right at the end when our leading girl gets told how much prettier she looks without glasses, like she’s actually shamed for being shortsighted. Lots of people wear glasses - I wear glasses and it is no way a measure of attractiveness? I found it quite bizarre to be honest, the novel is full of archaic beauty standards that just don’t sit comfortably.
It’s a shame as the writing is great, I just couldn’t look past the eating disorder theme and beauty shaming.

This story was so much more complicated and serious than I was expecting - in a good way! Poor Beth, she has to deal with so much in this story but just keeps chugging along. I really liked her and was so glad when Matt finally saw what a great person she was. If ever someone deserved to have a nice guy in their life it's Beth. She and Matt may not have gotten off to a great start, but the parking lot and spilled hot drink will just be a great story to tell everyone at a future wedding anniversary. You really want to smack Beth's parents for putting her in the middle of their divorce drama. And then, if your hand isn't stinging too much from that, smack Megan too. Guilting your sister into planning your wedding for you and then dropping the huge bombshell about a Vegas wedding is pretty awful. Matt's backstory with his parents was handled really well. His father is probably the least self-aware human on the planet and I was so glad when his mother announced she was filing for divorce. Perhaps my favorite thing about this book was how Matt didn't give up on Beth even when she was throwing up walls and obstacles for them getting together. My only big complaint with this book is that there would be these huge moments between Matt and Beth and then the chapter ended and picked up on another day. For example, one chapter ends with them kissing and then we hear about the aftermath through Matt thinking about it later - I want to get to see it in the moment! Other than that, the story moves along pretty smoothly and the supporting characters certainly add something interesting to the story. I am really really hoping we get another book with these characters that focuses on Connie and Susan's lives as they move on from their respective divorces. I want to be sure they get another chance at falling in love with men who deserve them.

🌷 [ARC] someone to love by tracy corbett review 🌷

Thank you to @netgalley for sending me this ARC copy to read and review!

Someone to Love is a story of two people who have been pulled into an uncomfortable position; plan a wedding.

Together.

While I loved the concept of the story, and the messages the author relayed toward the reader, I found that the development of the story and romance was slightly slow. The romance felt rushed and when it was finally starting to grow, the book sped toward the ending. There was no time for that love between the two main characters to be shown to the readers ✨
It left me feeling underwhelmed.

Although the story and the romance disappointed me, I loved how the book was written! 😍 The different perspectives of the main characters and the side characters were great, the reader got a lot of views into the life of the characters within Someone to Love xx

As for Matt, one of our MCs, I loved how the author described him! Matt had some insecurities, and troubles he was dealing with. I appreciated this a lot because the man in a romance book can be made out as perfect and untroubled. It was refreshing to see a love interest with flaws, it made the book more realistic and real 🦋

I think Someone to Love had a lot of potential, but it fell short toward the end. I still loved the concept that the author wrote, and I’ll definitely keep my eyes open to her other books xx

Rating: ⅖

Hilarious, witty and an all-round good time! The chemistry between Matt and Beth is undeniable and I love the trope of enemies to lovers.

Thank you NetGalley and Canelo for the ARC of Someone To Love. This is my personal review.
Planning a wedding should be done by the bride and groom but in this book the job fell to the maid of honor and best man. These two are complete opposites and then throw in the dysfunctional families it is going to be quite an experience for Beth and Matt to pull this wedding together.
The plot was well written and the experience of them planning the wedding puts them together a lot so the chemistry takes a while to click for them.
I look forward to reading more books by this author.

This is my first Tracy Corbett book, but if this is anything to go by, it definitely won’t be the last. I will certainly be looking through her back catalogue.

I know we don’t judge a book by its cover (except we totally do), but the cover of this one just screams happiness, love, joy, and happy endings. Which is exactly what was delivered. Sure, there’s a little predictability with some of the plot points, but is that a bad thing? Not for me. It might be for some people, but when I read this type of book – the happily-ever-after type – I expect a bit of drama, a bit of romance, but everything to be wrapped up nicely in a bow by the end. Which is exactly what I got from this book, and therefore it left me satisfied, happy, and warm. It’s like a giant hug in paperback form (or in my case, Kindle form).

It is rare I find a book where I like all the characters. Even the less popular ones had a certain charm about them that I couldn’t help but love. They all have their positives and negatives – even our two loving protagonists – but that’s what makes them more relatable for the reader.

I’ll admit, I did get a little confused at first with the quantity of characters and multiple point-of-views and who was related to whom, but it quickly worked itself out and flowed together nicely.

Whilst it doesn’t scream for a sequel or anything, I do wish there had been an epilogue or something set a year later, just so we could see what the characters had achieved in that time, and for me it would have wrapped their stories up nicely.

Engaging Romcom…
A wedding to plan, an absent bride and groom, dysfunctional families and problems galore in this engaging and lighthearted romcom with a well drawn and colourful cast of characters. Will Beth, the maid of honour and Matt, the best man manage the pitfalls along the way and, in the course of it all, will they accidentally find their own happy ever after?

This was a quick, easy and uplifting read that was well written and had well developed characters. I found this to be a bit predictable, but to be honest most books that fall into this genre are, and it didn't take anything away from the enjoyment. A good light-hearted read.
