A huge thank you to NetGalley and Onenesslovepublishing for the Advanced Readers Copy (ARC).

I was so excited to be selected for a copy of this because of the fact that I am transgender, myself. I am always pleased to take the time to read and review books in the LGBTQIA+ community. Especially ones with such colourful art.

As far as first impressions go, the cover is beautiful and bright colour wise. We're introduced to the main character: Super Gay.

The art reminds me of a brighter, pride-filled style similar to the TV show 'Hey, Arnold' from the 2000s-which I love!

After reading the entirety of the cute children's book I decided to give it a score of 5 out of 5.

It's a good resource for schools, home, and libraries alike.

A great intro into the world of pronouns and LGBTQIA+ relationships.

A note to the editor: there is an error on page 10 (out of 14) in the following paragraph.
Quote: "I fell in love with a she/they name Christiana..." name should be "named Christiana..."

This short picture book is a bit misleading in its title and cover. I was so pumped to see a book called "Super Gay" with a proud superhero on the front! I think you anticipate a story that would have some element of super hero to it. Unfortunately, there isn't really a story that matches inside (or any story at all). It's extraordinarily short and does not educate on pronouns, it just lists three of them (she/he/they) and then jumps into the Super Hero saying they fell in love with "a she/they".

The rhyming doesn't align quite right and the fact that the author used the line, "I fell in love with a she/they" felt very dehumanizing - as someone who uses they/them pronouns myself. In a cis relationship, you wouldn't say "I fell in love with a him".

It's missing a core, a conflict, a resolution, explanation, anything. There's no point in the 14 pages where the Super Hero does anything heroic or any kind of conflict resolution. I think the potential is there but that it needs a few more rounds through the editing to shape up a story. Otherwise, perhaps this would be best served as a web comic (and I say in earnest!).

This comic was so cute! I loved the message and the illustrations! It’s so educational, teaching kids about identity, pronouns, and being yourself! Also a great family book!

This is a fantastic children's book. I enjoyed the wording and how upbeat it was while also addressing some more serious topics. The artwork was fun and helped in creating an inclusive environment. I can’t wait to get a hard copy for my kids.

Special thank you to #NetGalley, #JessiHersey and #Onenesslovepublishing for sharing this digital copy, these are my honest thoughts on #SuperGay.

I understand that this is a children's book. However, there is no plot or story, and is very jumpy. Jumpy might be made up, but it's how I feel. The pages don't really flow and connect. Why is the hero "Super Gay"? Pronouns are great to teach, but gay encompasses so much more. even if we just stick to pronouns, there was only one example on how to use them. English classes do better than that!

super gay has an eye-catching cover and really fun character design. unfortunately, it is incredibly brief and has little in the way of substance becase of that, and it could do with some revisions. for one, i think more could have been done with the superhero element, because there is nothing in the story that justifies its presence. there could also have been, as other reviewers have pointed out, more diversity among the cast of characters. it might, however, pique the interest of parents, librarians, and young readers. so hooray, still, for the representation and inclusivity super gay offers, because there is still an astounding lack of such in children's media. <3 <3 <3

Excellently illustrated and a staple of consistency in innovation and technique from this excellent graphic novelist! I can't wait to see what comes next.

Super Gay by Jessi Hersey is an adorable pronoun introduction for children and special-needs readers. The imagery is bright and engaging, with saturated colors. The writing is straight forward and easily grasped, with simple introductions of pronouns given throughout. I think this is a great tool for helping young ones navigate language.

A very quick read about the use of pronouns with the author's love story thrown in. Loved the art and simplistic nature of the explanations. Treat others how you want to be treated.

*Thank you to NetGalley and the publishing of this book for the advanced copy !*

The cover and title of this book immediately interested me. The illustrations throughout the book are beautiful and would easily hold the target audiences attention. I liked how it mentioned different types of pronouns, however I wish it included ways to use the pronouns to more normalize them. This could even be simple sentences using the pronouns. I also think they should add more diversity including characters that aren’t able bodied or characters with different weights. They could make a real impact with this book if they simply show more a storyline as the super hero doing heroic things and educating more. That being said, it was told this was going to be the first book with more to come and I hope the things I mentioned can go more in depth in the following book(s).

I wanted to like this one, I really was drawn in by the cover and description. It was just very poorly executed.

It could maybe work as a board book that just focused on pronoun labels. OR as a story about a queer hero doing something heroic. There were 3 or 4 directions this book tried to go in and they all fell flat. I appreciated seeing racial diversity but everyone was slim and able bodied, so there is room for more diversity.

This story needs a major overhaul before it is published. Not only was the content lacking, the illustrations did not do it for me, and the handwritten text in the speech bubbles was inconsistent and difficult to read. The comic sans text at the beginning looks extremely unprofessional and I frankly would not purchase a published book that looked so poorly made.

I don't want to be mean, there is great need for these topics, I just hope the author can find more direction to strengthen what was a good idea.

I like what the author is trying to do here, but ultimately I wouldn’t recommend it because:
- It refers to the pronouns someone “prefers” to go by
- They way people are talked about: they are “a she/they”
- If there wasn’t a message to be shared, I don’t think there’s really a storyline to keep kids interested — either a plot that flows through the book or the kind of repetition that we generally see in children’s books

SUPER GAY was cute, but I felt like it was very surface level. It talked more about gender than sexuality, so I'm not sure if SUPER GAY was the correct title. It's a graphic novel, and based on the art it felt like it was intended for a late elementary school audience, but the text felt like a picture book. I feel like it could have been longer and gone in a bit more depth on the subject.

This is a cute and simple picture book. It will introduce kids to the concept of pronouns and that it's alright to love who you love. There were a few typos, so hopefully, those will be fixed.

Short and to the point. The description states that follow up books will dive deeper into explaining pronouns which I think will be helpful. But as far as introducing pronouns, this book accomplishes that. The overall feel is light and happy and it's always nice to have another LGQTQ out there.

The concept of this book is absolutely fantastic, and it has a significant place in our society.
The graphics are extremely vibrant and delightful looking! I really do wish there were a couple more of them.

I really enjoy the way graphic novels read on my Kindle, and Jessi Hersey's Super Gay is an appealing format for early readers learning their pronouns.

Lively illustrations by Ray B will surely keep young ones engaged. I love how the different flags and colors are incorporated into the backgrounds. So much fun!
