Made it 67% in and DNF’d. It was good at the beginning, but just kept dragging on and didn’t seem to be going anywhere.
I have been a fan of this authors work previously but sadly this one wasn’t for me. The premise was interesting. The writing was very plodding. For a thriller it was exceptionally dull.
Why oh why did I wait so long to read this.
Okay, put some time aside as you won't want to put this down. Do not start this unless you have time to spare as you will be hooked.
Absolutely brilliant.
I recently had the pleasure of reading The Removal Man by R.J. Parker, and I must say, I was completely drawn into the story from the very first page. The book follows the journey of a young mother, Rose, and her son Noah as they move to a new home for a fresh start. But what should have been a simple and straightforward move quickly takes a terrifying turn.
As Rose is finishing up her packing, her son Noah insists on spending one last night camping out in their garden. Rose reluctantly agrees, making sure Noah is well-wrapped in their tent. However, when she is woken up in the middle of the night by Noah frantically banging on the window, she knows something is very wrong. There is someone in their garden, and Rose must take action to protect her family.
One of the things I loved about The Removal Man is how R.J. Parker creates a sense of suspense and tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the story. You really feel for Rose and Noah as they are forced to confront their fears and make some difficult decisions in order to stay safe. And when Rose picks up the kitchen knife, you know things are about to get intense.
But what really stood out to me about this book was how well-developed the characters are. Rose is a relatable and strong protagonist who you root for from the very beginning. Noah, despite being young, is wise beyond his years and shows an incredible amount of bravery in the face of danger. And the antagonist, the removal man, is a truly chilling and terrifying character who you can't help but despise.
Overall, The Removal Man is a well-written and gripping novel that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys suspenseful and thrilling reads. R.J. Parker has created a story that is both engaging and heart-pounding, and I can't wait to read more of their work.
Could. Not. Put. It. Down.
Do not start this unless you have a stretch of time on your hands, you will be hooked and not want to put it down.
The plot is very creepy and will definitely keep you awaka at night. It's fast paced once it gets going. It's not the best book I've read by the author, although I can't really put my finger on why. Possibly because it was more gory whereas the others I have read have been built on suspense.
Well written, addictive and unpredictable. This is a book I have really enjoyed and devoured. i definitely want to read more from this author. Full Review to follow.
I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from NetGalley. This was a fast paced, dark page turner which I really enjoyed and wanted to know the "why!"
Very suspenseful and will keep you up at night.
Many thanks to HarperCollins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
A psychological thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat . A mother and son are trapped in their home with a psychopathic serial killer, will they survive the night?. This book has some seriously scary moments. Best thriller I have read this year 5 stars.
I did enjoy this book but I couldnt say I loved it. I did find the plot to be a bit unrealistic. I felt we heard way too much from the villian.
That book makes me feel frightened. I was indeed afraid of what happened next. I was listening to the audiobook in the evening and many times I was considering to just end it.
I did finished it. And I have a very mixed feelings. At first, the idea is ok. Not very original, but still can be a base of the great story. The plot later on - that was a horror. I’m a mother so I really struggle to read about kids who suffer from violence. But the main character- c’mon I hate this guy!
The murderer is strange. He is always talking. He is just a storyteller and I really hate it! It does not fit to this book at all. We have a story, we have a violence, a secrets and the guy who came just to talk about him.
Oh Lord!
So, in mu opinion is like 3/5
A great quick read. Rose is a fierce and resourceful mother. Giving into her son on the last night in a home haunted by memories. Noah wakes his mother , opening a door to a thrill ride . It’s a look into what you ar3 prepared to do to survive at all costs.
Rose’s husband is in a coma, and she has decided to downsize with her and her son. He decides to spend one last night in a tent in the garden (I have no idea how she coped because I think I would have lost the plot at that stage but anyway…). Rose lets him sleep there and leaves the door unlocked in case he gets scared in the night as he has before. Her son, Noah thinks he has heard voices and she goes to comfort him when she thinks she has seen a face inside her bedroom window, when her house should be empty.
The Removal Man was a tense and scary read that kept me hooked from the beginning. There are a lot of crucial elements to this book, murder, blood, gore and suspense. I wanted to scream at my kindle a number of times telling Rose to save herself or run before it was too later for her. There is a lot of dialogue from the removal man as he talks about his actions and a big focus on Rose’s resilience as she attempts to get everything done and keep her son safe.
I enjoyed this read and don’t want to give anything away with my review but if you get a chance to read it, you should!
This book had me stumped. Sitting smug and thinking I had it all thought out, the author put me in my place. Finally we have a thriller that will keep you your toes.
Really enjoyed this book, read it in one sitting, the pacing could have been a little faster, but really enjoyed the story and twists. Will look for more from this author.
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book
Perfect when you don’t have the time or head space for a longer book. This is an ideal read
This is the first time I have read this author and I can't say that I was enamoured by this offering. The premise was intriguing but that's as far as it went. Honestly, most of the first quarter of the book was about Rose and her son Noah in the backyard, in the house and in the backyard again.
Rose and Noah have just packed up their home to move and as a final goodbye, Noah wants to spend the night in his tent in the backyard...just the same as he would have done with his father Lucas. Lucas who had an aneurysm whilst in bed with a much younger student is now in hospital and will never fully recover. It's down to his increasing medical costs that Rose has had to sell their home and downsize.
Noah pleaded with his mum to allow him to camp out in his tent just the way he used to with his dad. But then in the middle of the night, Rose is awoken by a banging on the double glazed doors. Noah is wanting to come in. He heard something so Rose investigates. She wanders the house and then the backyard, but sees nothing. But Noah is adamant he heard something. So she beds down with him in his cramped one man tent and they both doze off.
Until a noise awakens Rose. A dragging sound just outside the tent. She finally works up the courage to look. Nothing is there. By this time, Noah is awake once again. Of course, Rose cleverly left her mobile inside on the floor after her son woke her earlier and as she moves towards the house to grab her phone, she sees a shadow in an upstairs window. Someone is inside. She must grab her phone and call the police.
And blah blah blah...
Honestly, it just goes on and on about every step Rose and Noah take. She never got her phone but instead frightened herself silly that she tries pushing Noah up over the high wall that encircles their property. But instead he falls to the ground. And then it moves from the boring to the preposterous. By which time, I've given up and tossed it aside to move onto something far more interesting and worthy of my time.
Many people loved this book and I was waiting to reach that point but by 30% I still hadn't got there so why waste my time any further?
Life's too short to read books that don't interest me.
I would like to thank #RJParker, #NetGalley and #OneMoreChapter for an ARC of #TheRemovalMan in exchange for an honest review.
