The direction in the story was poor. The story seemed like it had been done loads of times. The twist was quite predictable too. Overall this book lacked everything required for a good thriller.

Book: The Secret Couple
Author: J.S. Lark
Publisher: Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter
Pub Date: May 13, 2022

Meh. It was just okay. It felt very slow to me and the “surprise” at the end didn’t really pack a punch. It just didn’t hold my attention for the entire book. At times I thought oh this is going to get good and then boom back to slow and no excitement. I always wonder what makes author pick certain titles. I can’t say the title is a true representation of the book.

Thank you Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for this sneak peak! Publication date is May 13, 2022.

Fast paced, tense, full of atmospher almost to the point of claustrophobia - and I mean that in a good way. Twisty and unpredictable. A really great read.

On arrival in Bath, she finds nobody waiting for her in the hotel, but later finds out it’s the barman Luke that was sentinel the emails. Alice gets an email from an anonymous person asking her for help. At first she doesn’t do anything but once she finds out her husband has cheated on her she heads to Bath to meet this person. She meets Luke who she finds spending time with very easy and he enjoys spending time with her. Eventually she returns home and to work and she doesn’t expect to see Luke again. A few weeks later she finds him at the door to her flat. He’s in trouble and needs her help. She allows him to stay but doesn’t allow herself to get too close to him to start with. However his charming ways eventually lead to her giving in. He also takes her to meet his various families.
I found this book slow going to read and difficult to keep my attention at times. I also felt it ended very abruptly given how in depth other parts of the book were. It’s still worth reading and not a bad book just not as good as it could have been in places.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest views and opinions.

This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review…it is a story of mystery and intrigue…sometimes dark…the story moves slowly…the characters are really not likable…the author has woven a tale that is unique…not my favorite but others might enjoy it more.

This is a great thriller that keeps you guessing until the absolute end! Alice meets Luke on holiday after leaving her husband, Joseph when she discovers he cheated on her with a woman with whom they work. But something bothers her about Luke as even though he is incredibly sexy and wants her badly, she knows he has casual sex easily and she's just gotten out of a disaster of a relationship. But when Luke comes to stay with her for a while, she also realizes she knows too little of his past, his parents, his eventual adoption and she vows to be careful. Now how will that ever happened when she is lusting after a gorgeous man? Secrets, deceit, abuse, jealousy, and temptation; these are only a few of the emotions running through this thriller and believe me, it will keep you thinking you have figured it out...until you haven't! Would love to read more from this author!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Awesome.
Someone knows what they did… A laugh.
A touch.
A lingering look. A dead body.
An affair. A crime years in the making. Alison knows she’s in too deep. But behind closed doors, no one is who they seem…
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK One More Chapter for giving me an advance copy.

The Disturbing Truth..
Nothing is as it seems in this nerve tingling suspense with a sharp edge. The reader is pulled into Alice’s world and travels with her to meet Anon. Who is Anon and what exactly do they want? It seems clear that they need her help and, as defence lawyer, she wants to give it. It is already clear that Alice, herself, is living on a knife edge with something perhaps dreadful in her past and her present little better despite her initial optimism. The reader soon learns the disturbing truth. The ride is darkly tumultuous, the tension palpable as the tale races towards a, perhaps, unexpected denouement.
