A bachelorette party in New Orleans full of tension and where one woman ends up dead.

At first, I wasn’t sure about the structure of the book. Unlike a lot of thrillers, it does NOT flip from present to past. Instead this one builds up the tension among the characters and then shifts to the investigation perspective and interviewing suspects. However, I ended up enjoying it! It worked really well with the tension that has been set up in part one and there were genuine surprises and twists! A solid, easy to read thriller!

New Orleans is a place of mystery, magic and mischief.
That's why it's the perfect place for a bachelorette party. But what is a trip to New Orleans without murder and mayhem? That's why they just had to stay in the Leblanc-Landry estate where, many years ago, the owner killed his wife and children in a fit of rage. Six friends entered, but not of them will leave. Before the weekend is over, one of the friends will be absorbed into the walls of the estate's dark past.

I'm a huge fan of Carissa Ann Lynch. She's a must-read author for me. This story, however, was disappointing. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. I was expecting a haunting Southern Gothic novel. New Orleans was a big draw, but the setting was underutilized. The magic of the city wasn't captured. Likewise, the dark history of the Leblanc-Landry estate wasn't fleshed out enough. The murders were briefly talked about and then dismissed. I was hoping that would have been a more integral part of the story because it was the best part of the story.

I did enjoy the characters. The progressive build up of tension within the group was fun. The secrets they all carried were entertaining. But -the thing is- the murder victim was super easy to figure out. In order for the murderer to not be obvious, the plot and motive did get kind of convoluted. But my real problem with the characterization was how it completely flipped script in Part 2. None of their personality traits seemed to align well with their characterization from Part 1.

This book had so much potential, but it suffered from being too short. Unfortunately, the setting, motives and characterization suffered for it as they lacked depth. I liked it but I don't love it. It was an easy, quick read but I would have preferred 100 more pages.
It's still a good and well-written story. But I would suggest starting with another one of Carissa Ann Lynch's book before this one.

Rosalee – the bride. Rosalee comes across as shy, quiet, reserved. She’s going to marry, Asher, the man of her dreams.
Elizabeth – the mother-in-law, at least she will be. She doesn’t think Rosalee is good enough for Asher, can’t understand what he sees in her, much preferring Georgia. She’s also a rich widow, which lends to her hoity-toitiness.
Mara – the best friend. Mara has been Rosalee’s best friend since college. She is also helping plan the bachelorette party, leading to disgruntlement between Mara and Tinsley, which Rosalee can’t understand until she finds out the reason. Mara is also a troublemaker.
Tinsley – the cousin. Tinsley’s mom took Rosalee in when Rosalee lost her parents, so Tinsley is more like a sister to Rosalee. They lost touch when Rosalee went off to college, but reconnected at the party.
Georgia – the groom’s best friend. Georgia’s business venture is failing … miserably. Rosalee begins to wonder if there is more to the relationship between Georgia and Asher. Elizabeth gets to the truth of the matter.
Bri – Asher’s sister, Elizabeth’s daughter. Bri is quite devious and has a talent that no one knows about.
Can you imagine being in a room with all these different personalities? The intriguing thing is, this book is written in six (6!) different voices, all very distinct, all very much tuned into the different personalities. (That takes a certain kind of talent.) Enter Detective Nina Smalls. Will she get to the truth of the matter when no one seems to want to tell the truth? And the setting for the party – the gorgeous Leblanc-Landry mansion in New Orleans. This is another tale that includes some secret passages in an old house (remember Cedar Farms?). The mansion holds secrets of its own, not just secret passages. And the ending? Man, the ending … that was totally unexpected. And, to top it off, a bright pink cover!

I had a difficult time getting into this book, I was often confused by several POVs, as one example.

I really didn't expect anything special when I decided to read this one, but was I ever surprised. The author, Carissa Ann Lynch, did a nice job of pulling all the details together to make a very good book.

I liked the character development with such an intriguing group of characters. There was the young woman--soon to be married--who seemed to be too much of a people pleaser; her cousin--rather shy; her best friend gregarious and a bit too outspoken; the soon-to-be mother-in-law--who wanted her son to marry someone else; the groom-to-be's bestie--the one the mother-in-law wanted her son to marry; and the soon to be sister-in-law--stoic, alcoholic and a bit too much under her mom's control.

When someone ends up dead after this bachelorette weekend, You don't find out which one right away. I was completely wrong about who was killed! Although honestly, the groundwork has been laid that it could be any of them. Also killed by any of them. I missed some of the little hints that didn't seem inportant.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

What a ride this book took me on. I had a hard time putting The One Night Stand down, and I didn’t see any of the twists coming.

This was a really good read, it’s full of twists and turns throughout and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The plot was great, the characters were interesting and the style of writing was perfect.
I was sucked in immediately.
The characters were very well developed and engaging throughout.
The storyline was very interesting and was such a crazy tale. I was up till 2am finishing this one up.
This book kept me on my toes for sure. And I enjoyed every minute if it.

Who does not like a pink cover? I love pink and everything draws me to it. So done deal for me with this one.

“Six women, one body”

In the prologue we met a female detective investigating a crime scene. A body of a female hanging from the ceiling in an old building in New Orleans. I do love myself reading about the South. Some good old southern charms and gothic atmosphere. Who is the victim? Who did it?! Did I try to guess? Yes! Did I get it right? Not even close.

I’d call this a light popcorn thriller. It did the job, a light, fast reading, yet entertaining.

There are multiple point or views. It could get confusing, but I could keep up.
We have six women in the group. I did like the characters, mostly, they had depth and dimension. We have:

- [ ] Elizabeth - stuck up mother-in-law whose expectations are impossible to live up to
- [ ] Bri - sister of the groom
- [ ] Tinsley - cousin of the bride
- [ ] Georgia - best friend of the groom, gorgeous and Elizabeth’s first pick
- [ ] Marla best friend of the bride

Six very different women, one trip, one of them will be dead. I did enjoy the constant change, as the story progressed. Every woman had their own story, their own baggage. There were some red herrings, other things I did not see coming. The prologue threw me off at first but as soon as we got the story going, I was hooked. I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. I guess you should think twice about playing truth or dare… it could turn out deadly. Were there some cliches? Jep. But I did not mind.

I liked the connection you felt to the characters, even the unlikable ones. You don’t have to like everyone, but you can recognise a certain bond. The author thought them out very well and gave them the personalities they needed for this story to make sense.

This story had the misfortune to come to me after another book, that was very much identical to this one. Still, I thought that with another author, I'd probably get a new take on this.
Yep. New take it was. Good take? No.
From the start I had a feeling that this would go off the rails. Not in a good way.
I'm not going to say this was horrible.
I was the damn fool who kept reading.
About the half way mark, I freaking realised that I had wasted my time reading this garbage. The writing somehow became simplistic.
The ending? What the huh?

If your a thriller lover like me, we've all read a story like this. A group of women get together for a bachelorette party and one of them ends up dead, but we don't know who dies nor who did it. That's the gist of them all and this one is no exception. Except, this one doesn't bore you with the backstory and the unnecessary details. This one gets right to the point and is just all in all a fun, interesting, quick and enjoyable read. I didn't care for any of the characters but I loved the drama with all of them. The ending was also pretty good and didn't try too hard like so many others. If you need a quick, enjoyable read, this one is a great pick. Three stars.

When a book is promised to be Lucy Foley-esque, I am immediately excited! The cast of characters were complicated and unlikeable in the best ways, and the author managed to wrangle seemingly unconnected plotlines together well. I was shocked by how everything fit together in the end! Unfortunately I was a little disappointed by the writing as it felt underwhelming at times, and the final part didn't have the same ooompf as the first section. That being said, I devoured it in one sitting so...go check it out!

Can I give this book 6 stars??? From the first page this story grabbed my interest and kept it until the very end. Sharp writing, interesting mix of characters, great plot...there was nothing about this book I didn't like. I love the cover of this book and enjoyed the story so much that I will be purchasing a copy for my home library!

This was my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last. She kept me guessing throughout as to who the murderer was and what really happened.

I definitely recommend this book to readers of suspense and thrillers. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy. All opinions are mine.

Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, and many twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and a bit crazy lol this story was a bit different for me but I definitely enjoyed reading it! I will definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Carissa Ann Lynch is amazing author who creates claustrophobic whodunnits, fast pacing, mind blowing mysteries! Her works are easy to read in one sitting! She never makes you disappointed! This book has another exemplary plot line hooking you from the first page! While you bite your nails, flipping the pages, fidgeting nervously, you feel like glued to your seat! You cannot stop reading!

Let’s take a look at the plot line:

Who can resist celebrating bachelor party for a few days with friends in an authentic Greek Revival in the Garden District in New Orleans? You’re gonna spend time at a dreamy, historical, exotic, polished mansion including spa, make up treatments, traditional spicy New Orleans food!

Well, I personally say this is my kind of party!
Unfortunately soon to be bride Rosalee has her second thoughts.

Firstly her monster in laws Elizabeth doesn’t approve her to marry with her son. She likes Georgia who is best friend of Asher ( groom) and she is scheming to stop wedding by using Georgia to convince her son.

Sister in law Bri is also rude , acting pretentious, judgmental around her. But she’s dealing with her inner demons by numbing her brain cells with more antidepressants and extra booze!

Her estranged cousin Tinsley acts weird, resentful. She is so close to punch Roselee’s best friend Mara in the face!

And Mara acting bossy bitch, making sneaky, harsh comments about in laws to protect Roselle from their toxic attitudes. But she’s not a Saint! She’s hiding her own financial issues by forcing Trish to pay everything about the party.

And let’s not forget sixth contender: Georgia- the best friend of groom! She’s way too much gorgeous to stay as friends with the groom. Could she have an affair with him?

Rosalee has her own secret about her past and she is worried Asher will have second thoughts to marry her if they come out! But she’s not the only one she keeps things to herself! Each woman are lying about something and eventually those lies will kill one of them!

And let’s forget Delfina- the help who gives creepy vibes, appears out of nowhere, whose dedication to eerie history of mansion force her take things too far!

Who died at the bachelor party? Who is the perpetrator?

Well: it was fast, entertaining reading with a smart twist at the end. Earning my 4 intelligent, whodunnit, devouring in one sitting stars!

Soooo good.

The characters are really well written and fleshed out. The suspense comes in all the secrets these women hold on to.

The pace was excellent and from the first page, I was hooked.

I love these "meet up after years" type of novels and this one does not disappoint.
