I loved this peek into the missions of other Double-O agents. I have always wondered what other stories were out there

A great book about James Bond 007 character. A new retelling of the story. Enjoyable but not for me.

I couldn’t connect with any of the characters and I found the storyline about jumpy. Unfortunately not a winner this time.

Enjoyable and convincing continuation of Fleming's James Bond 007 series, focusing on other MI6 colleagues.

Bond is missing without any trace. No one knows where he is and he is presumed dead. His absence is deeply felt and his colleagues carry on searching for him, or evidence of what has happened to him.

Meanwhile, they are tasked with infiltrating Rattenfänger, a powerful terrorist organisation, and discovering its connection to tech billionaire Sir Bertram Paradise.

Reads like a bond movie and captures the spirit whilst updating the characters to reflect modern society.

Started really well and initially had me hooked but then the story really started to drag and as the book progressed I found that I increasingly lost interest in it. Overall, I sadly found it rather disappointing.

A light hearted take oj the spy genre, it was enjoyable. Not a must read but pleasant and nice to have a woman in charge for a change!

starts so well and just starts to drag out. a really bad attempt to expand the bond universe without actually having bond - what was the author thinking

I can’t say I enjoyed this book as it just wasn’t to my taste! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this title.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book. A gripping thriller, which expands the Bond universe with other Double O agents in a modern and fresh way. This could have felt like a fan fiction and I was dubious when picking this up but its pacy, action-packed plot with a broader range of characters than Ian Fleming used kept me engaged. I preferred Sherwood’s writing style to Fleming, with its more dynamic take that read less classic to me.

Sadly this book wasn't for me. It took me a long time to become interested in the story. The characters were well developed and the plot well thought out but for me it just took to long and I really struggled to finish.

Unfortunately I could not get into this book at all and had to give up 25% of the way through, sorry

This book unfortunately wasn't for me, I didn't enjoy the writing style or the story which I was surprised at. I see many readers have enjoyed it so I think its very much a matter of taste.

It took a while to get in this book due to the author's writing style but I am glad I stuck with it, brilliant read

There is a problem shared by many novels that ‘borrow’ characters from other authors relating to setting expectations in the reader’s mind and, unfortunately, Double or Nothing is not immune. Certainly, there is plenty of action from the first moments of the book, but anyone expecting to be immersed in an Ian Fleming style thriller may be a little disappointed. That said, this is quite a stylish book and the author has used some skill in populating the plot with some well drawn characters. Some readers may find the somewhat disjointed style of narrative a little disconcerting, but this soon becomes less of an issue as the reader becomes familiar with the author’s style. All in all, a satisfying read.

Took me a little while to get through this one. But it was a good solid read and fans of James Bond will definitely devour it. The writing is excellent.

Was an ok read. I must admit, I judged the book by its cover and didn’t realise it was a James Bond themed book - my bad!

Read it nonetheless, and as I said earlier, it’s ok. Not my usual kind of book but it was well written.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.

2.5 rounded up to 3

I was very curious to read this book, but unfortunately it wasn't for me.

It is well-written (although some descriptions were a bit too long and struggled to keep me interested) and the action was good, but I struggled to follow the characters, I kept mixing them up and this made for a messy read.

I don't know if this simply isn't my genre, but I almost gave up near the middle because I could not follow the story properly.

Thank you NetGallery and HarperCollins UK for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

A very modern follow-on of the James Bond genre. Unfortunately, I really struggled to enjoy this book, even though I liked the diverse and interesting collection of main characters. The theme of the main plot was quite difficult to follow at times, which meant a lot of re-reading of the previous chapters - not a good sign.

As far as I remember this the first book featuring 00-X agents I read and i had a lot of fun.
I'm not able to compare to Fleming's books and I think this enabled me to read and judge this book according to its merit.
It's an entertaining, fast paced, and action packed story. The characters are well developed and I liked them.
I think that the inclusivity is a sign of the times more than any woke-or-whatever sign.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I really wanted to like this book, and there were parts of it that were superb. The action sequences in particularly were really well done - compelling and gripping and often very tense. However, I struggled with the three protagonists, and keeping track of who was where (or when), meant that it didn't really flow for me.

I liked the little nods to the earlier Bond stories that were interspersed through out the book. I'll be looking out for the next in the series too!

New Bond universe novel by Kim Sherwood which picks up the other members of the 00 section who are tasked with working out what Sir Bertram Paradise is up to with his claims to reverse the climate crisis. They will need to do it all without 007 James Bond who is missing presumed killed in action.
Interesting setup and execution as Sherwood brings the new cast of characters in and slots them in with M, Moneypenny, Q et al. First in a trilogy this was an entertaining read and bodes well for the future instalments.
