A celebration you will not forget!

A truely gripping whodunnit!

I really enjoy a good crime novel with a twist. when you read the likes of Lucy Foley and Cara Hunter its hard to find authors sometimes who are just as good with characters and plots, but i will tell you Amanda Robson has got it!
I was drawn in from the first chapter the setting and how the characters interacted with each other really had you guessing from early on who it could be.
It was so gripping as the story starts to unfold and things come together the Adrenalin really kicks in.

I absolutely love thrillers and found that this book kept me on my toes throughout. I loved the family drama dynamic! This was a quick easy read and one I would recommend.

Unfortunately, this book did not work for me. I liked the idea and plot lines. Set up was great, as well as the descriptions of the vacation villa and place. It made me feel like I am there and makes for a great summer read.
However, I had a hard time with writing, it was very offputting, official, and old school. All the "Mother and Father" references felt like I am reading an older classic, not a modern thriller. I did not like any of the characters, none of them had depth but all of them were annoying and offputting.
I wish the writing was slightly more casual, this would have worked so much better.

3 stars for this entertaining cast of oddball characters~

The suspense was there, but mostly I could not stop focusing on the quirkiness and all-around oddness of this cast of characters. Oftentimes I lost the plot because of my laser focus on the idiosyncrasies between the pages... This book does have its good points though, and I was definitely pulled in at the very beginning because I wanted to read more into the family drama that was unfolding. My rating of 3 stars stems from my opinion that this read more as a quirky family drama than a true thriller.

Ralph and Sarah are divorced, but Ralph still holds a torch for his ex - much to the disgust of his current girlfriend, Gemma. When Ralph organises a 45th birthday celebration on the Amalfi Coast and invites their children and Sarah herself, things start to get tense. And not everybody will survive the holiday ...

This was a pretty good book with plenty of twists and turns - and some really unlikeable characters! It was gripping enough to keep me invested to the end, which was not what I had expected!

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Ralph is turning 45, and to celebrate he decides to take a holiday and invites his girlfriend, his ex wife and her partner, his son and his girlfriend, and his daughter. It isn't all smooth sailing, as two of the party die - who is the guilty party?

This book is written from the multiple individual character points of view. At times this felt incredibly muddled, and the breaks between characters were not there (I am hoping as I read an ARC this will be corrected by the time of publication!) - I spent a lot of time rereading and trying to work out who was narrating. Unfortunately I found every character annoying, there was a lot of controlling, simpering, and I couldn't find a single thing I liked about any of them.

However, it wouldn't put me off reading something else by this author. Her scenery descriptions were beautiful, and I enjoyed the fast pace of the book.

I found The Party Guest to be ok. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters and found the book lacked pace. Having said that I was intrigued to finish the novel so would rate it 2.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author for the chance to review.

The Party Guest by Amanda Robson is a fast paced thriller set in a beautiful Italian coast.

I particularly liked multiple POV's, from every single character. It is hugely satisfying to read about different perspectives and delve into everyones thoughts and opinions.

The chapters almost all the way to the end of the book were extremely short and incrdibly fast-paced. It simply makes you read more and more.

I guessed the murderer fairly early on, but it still didn't deter me from enjoying the story. I was maybe hoping for one last suprise but it didn't come. The story was tied nicely at the end but it was nothing earth shattering, probably as I guess correctly the identity of the perpetrator.

All in all, a nice thriller perfect for hot summer days.

Was very disappointed in this book. The description had made it sound fantastic. But sadly it didn’t live up to my expectations. It was fast paced. But I got seriously lost with the characters and plot.

The Party Guest by Amanda Robson

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books and I am leaving this review voluntarily

A birthday to remember. But would they rather forget…?

Ralph is turning 45, and the only gift he wants this year is his ex-wife.
Gemma, his trophy girlfriend, is trying to ignore this.
Sarah, the ex-wife, has agreed to attend Ralph’s birthday party, but with her new man in tow.
And Jack, Sarah’s partner, is keen to accompany Sarah to keep an eye on the proceedings.

It’s a birthday trip like no other. The whole extended family in a villa on the beautiful Amalfi coast. But under the politely strained surface, every party guest harbours their own agenda.

By the end of the trip, two people will be dead. But while Ralph unwraps his presents, will anybody be able to unwrap the truth…?

Do you ever get to the end of a book and wonder what you have just read? This was the case for me with this book - unfortunately I really couldn't connect with the writing style and this really spoilt my enjoyment. Within the first 10% I knew that this wasn't the book for me but kept reading on the hope that the writing would just click. Worryingly this was my first book by Amanda Robson and I'm not sure if this has put me off reading anything further by Robson.

Rating 2/5

Wow, this was definitely the sort of birthday party I would never want to attend! The jealousy, awful memories and plain old hatred make this into an unforgettable read with each of the women a suspect!

An excellent read. I have visited The amalfi Coast many times and loved the descriptions of the area. A gripping story of lies and betrayal in families. I actually nearly felt very sorry for Ralph at the end.

Wow this book was Soo Soo goood! Just loved every second of it and trying to guess what it could be!

I'm sorry to say that I did not enjoy this at all. The blurb made it sound like it had all the elements of a great domestic thriller - a jealous ex-husband, his ex-wife and her new fiancee, his young girlfriend and his troubled children, all meeting in Italy for his 45th birthday party. However, it fell completely flat for me. I did not enjoy the 2nd person narration and felt it was distracting to the plot. I disliked all of the characters and their questionable decision making. The story was unrealistic and boring. The formatting was confusing and often flipped from one characters POV to another without the appropriate character subtitle. This book will need a lot of editing before it could be sold to the public. If I wasn't reviewing it for NetGalley I would have DNF'd it very early on.

I really enjoyed this book and especially liked the short chapters, which moved the story along at pace and introduced the different characters quickly. It was good to see the story from the viewpoints of the different characters and the reader could quickly form a picture of how different they all were.
It held the reader’s interest by keeping one guessing throughout. A thoroughly enjoyable read, which you won’t want to put down.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
