I was excited about The Killing Code by Ellie Marney. Mystery? Murder? Codebreaking? A feminist historical fiction novel for teens? This sounded like a perfect book for the teen book club I run.
The writing just came off as boring to me, though. There wasn't anything to draw the reader in. I had hoped that after Kit found a body that it would start to take off. For a second I believed that it had. Unfortunately, the writing went straight back to the previous style. I read a few excerpts to my teens to see if they thought anyone in the teen group would be interested, and they gave a big thumbs down.
