This was beautifully complex, with themes of grief, joy, collaboration, and passion for building something amazing. I enjoyed seeing these characters ebb and flow toward and away from each other, and loved the complex dynamic of their relationship.

Possibly the best book I read this year. The characters were just likable enough to invest in, just flawed enough to be realistic. Perfectly captured the evolution of video games, the stories they're able to tell, their legitimacy as an art form, and the impact they have on the lives of players.

I loved this book, I stayed up until 2am to finish it in a single sitting, and cried (I won't say when, no spoilers...)

DNF. I did feel like the book was well written. However the subject matter did not really appeal to me as I am not a fan of video games it was hard for me to relate to the characters in the book. I lost interest quickly and unfortunately did not finish it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were fully realized with believable complex problems. It was refreshing to read about video game designers. I felt that Sadie and Sam gave everything to their creative endeavors and that GZ gave us a satisfying glimpse into this world.

The connection that Sadie and Sam build together over 30 years is the life-blood of this story. It is not an easy love story, and life gets in the way often, but they share an indelible relationship that you can’t help but cheer for.

This was a delightful read. Do yourself a favour and give it a try.

Took me a bit to get into this book but overall it was a worthwhile read. Enjoyed the examination of friendship and learned a bit about video games in the process. Recommend!

This read started off slow in the beginning but events took a turn and I could not stop. Went from a 3.5 star in the beginning to a strong 5 star at the finish. Late gen x and xennials are the peak audience, a love letter to PC games and a friendship that spans a lifetime. It’s been a long time since I stayed up late to finish a book and this one had me in tears at several moments. So good ❤️

I was not sure I would like this book as it got into to much details about the games being made and how they are made. But after a while it made more sense and you could see the story behind it. This is a story about Sadie, Sam and Marx. I did not like Sadie, I found her selfish, resentful and insecure. She liked to blame everyone but herself. Sam was a sufferer who did not know how to communicate with others unless it was with a game. Marx was a player who loved everyone, he was the centre for Sadie and Sam. I did enjoy the book in the end and glad I read it all the way through.

Although I'm not a player I used to love watching my son and daughter and my husband play video games but I don't think a knowledge of the games is necessary to your enjoyment of this book. There's lots more going on than just video games. I really liked this book and found it very difficult to stop whenever I was reading it. It's a fairly lengthy book with some pretty long chapters but I really felt that I got to know and care about the characters. It was very interesting to get an idea what goes on behind the scenes in the development of a video game but it's still a mystery to me! I have to admit that I got a little confused towards the end and had trouble figuring out whether we were in the video game or in real life but a bit of re-reading clarified matters.

There was a bit of chat in the book about the painting The Great Wave off Kanagawa which is also on the cover of the book and strangely enough we have that picture hanging on our wall right over my head. There are some pretty obscure words in this book as well, like "echt", "verisimilitude", "collogue" and "kenophobia" to name a few.

My thanks to Penguin Random House Canada via Netgalley for the opportunity to read a copy of this excellent novel. All opinions expressed are my own.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow is the type of book that’s so exciting to find because it’s such a surprise. A surprise in that despite my having minimal interest in a major plot line (video games), I was still invested and connected with the story.
I was hooked on the relationships and human connections. Sam and Sadie were flawed, and learning, and navigating their lives with the tools they had. Even the miscommunications and frustrating moments didn’t feel annoying, because Zevin wrote the characters in a way that it felt real and legitimate to their growth.
I highly recommend this book, it was interesting and complex and I’ll be thinking of these characters for awhile.

"Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" is one of those books that will forever stay with me and has earned a coveted spot on my "To Be Kept Forever Bookshelf". This book was a slow burn initially and I questioned a few times whether or not I wanted to actually read it and I stuck through with it. I am so glad I did as it easily became one of my favourite books.

I fell in love with the characters and I was able to relate effortlessly with them and I honestly felt as though the storyline and the character development was a form of reality as opposed to a work of fiction. The story follows it's characters' lives through three decades and it does flip back back and forth between past and present. The story flows smoothly and even though I found it a slow burn I realized a little more then within fifty percent of the book, I was completely invested.

I cannot recommend "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" enough to other readers. I can't wait to see what other books the author Gabrielle Zevin has to offer her readers. This book made me smile, laugh, and cry. A hook that brings out that amount of emotion for me is few and far between.

Thank you to for the opportunity to review this book! I saw it absolutely everywhere on the internet, and after reading it, I totally understand why. Page-turning, character-driven plot paired with great writing that makes you actually feel smarter as you read. The kind of book I'm always searching for.

4.5 stars. Gabrielle Zevin is brilliant. Wow. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a masterpiece. Like a stunning piece of art, it won’t be for everyone. However, it can be appreciated and admired for what it is.

The story follows Sadie and Sam who meet at the hospital when young Sam is recovering from multiple surgeries to his damaged foot, and Sadie is around because her older sister Alice has cancer. The story is moving, and smart, and complex, as they grow up, capitalizing on their mutual devotion to video games. Yes, there is a lot about video games in this story, but Zevin sets a fascinating lens on the process and industry. Be prepared for victory, admonishment, despair, heartbreak, hope, and love. Relationships that are endearing, some that are devastating. Being in Sam and Sadie’s world for a couple of decades will be transportive, and they will both be with me for a long time.

It has been quite some time since I have read a novel by Gabrielle Zevin. This has such a great flow. A very easy reading style and quick to read. Really enjoyed the characters and would recommend to a wide range of readers.

This story follows the friendship between Sam and Sadie over the span of 25 years enduring grief, heartbreak, betrayal, success and loss. I first thought this book would be a 5 star read for me, and then around half way I found myself losing interest.

I work in the movie/video game industry, so I enjoyed the in depth descriptions of what it’s like to create a game and to work in the industry.

I also really appreciated the nostalgia of the video game references but as a minor complaint, other than those references this book felt too modern and didn’t feel like it took place in the 90’s and early 2000’s.

One of my biggest problems was that I didn’t really feel any connection between Sadie and Sam. It felt like they spent most of the book being resentful and distant towards each other. I also never found myself connecting with Sadie and she didn’t seem to grow much as a character.

I liked parts of the book and other parts really dragged and seemed unnecessary, I probably would have enjoyed this one more if it was shorter.

I can understand why people are really loving this one but wasn’t one that will stick out to me.

I started out thinking nope I’m not going to like this book. I was so wrong. Yes it’s about video games but it’s about so much more too. Loved it!

This was a strange read, I went in blind, the cover was so fantastic but the book fell flat for me, WAY TOO LONG. It was a DNF for me.

Thanks for the chance to read, this isn't one i liked even a bit.

Actual review: 4.5/5 stars. This book was so unique! It takes place within the video game industry and follows the journey of three friends creating a bestselling video game company from scratch. I loved so much about this book, but what drew me in was that it took place in the world of video games but wasn't science fiction and it didn't just focus on the technical aspects either. Instead it centered on the creative aspects and the people behind the innovations. A really well rounded story about people and love which I've never read anything like before.

✨Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin - 5🌟

I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this book—there is just something so incredibly special about it, and in particular, about the characters and the relationships they have with each other. While video games are central to the entire plot and story, it really IS so much MORE than just a book about video games. It’s a love story—an intense, complicated and multi-layered love story between friends who, on the one hand, have this deeply profound love for one another, but who also struggle with communication, take each other for granted, and often misconstrue ulterior motives of the other. I really loved how deep and complex the relationship between Sam and Sadie was, but I also loved how Marx’s relationship developed, first with Sam and then later with Sadie. This book was just so beautiful to read—the writing was so phenomenal and so emotional, and the story was heartbreaking and left me sitting there crying several times. I really, really felt like I got to know Sam, Sadie, and Marx, and I felt for all of them.

I also deeply appreciated the name drop of one of my favourite video games, Diablo. I was secrelty hoping Duke Nukem would be cited as well, but at least I got one! :)

Unfortunately, this was a dnf for me. I had a difficult time getting into the story; it felt like so much was going on that it was challenging to figure out the actual story.

My thoughts…
Playful story. Playful in more ways than one. I can’t pinpoint what I really liked about this book. It could be the way Sam and Sadie’s relationship started? Playing “Super Mario Bros.?” Or how they lost touch and then met again? Maybe it was the romance, that was really not? Or the friendship that endured through so much but supported by a shared love of video games? Whatever it was, the blurring of reality and virtual was so good that each explained the other. This was a novel about communication and reconciliation. “Lovers are common… True collaborators in this life are rare.” You don’t need to know anything about gaming. A definite fave for me.
