The book is set against the 2nd World War, in Poland, and gives you an insight into what the Jewish people had to go through. That time in our history was dark, but through this story a little bit of a light is coming through. Really well written, will read more in future. Recommended.

The Doctor's Daughter by Shari J. Ryan was another brilliant, powerful and poignant story one minute I was laughing the next I needed tissues and lots of them! This was a book once I opened my kindle and started to read this I was hooked and could not put it down. It can be heartbreaking, at times and yet, heart warming as well.
A must read for 2022.

If you love reading books from WW11 Then this is a book for you and it will not disappoint.
I highly recommend The Doctors Daughter. 5 Stars

This book has it all; feelings of joy, feelings of desperation, courage, resilience etc...

The characters are well developed and the way that this book is written, I felt that I was actually there in the midst of all the crazy and unimaginable.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for this advanced readers copy. This book released on April 28, 2022.

I honestly can not get enough of Shari’s books.

So many emotions go through you when reading her stories.

The pain people endured during that time should never be forgotten. Evil should not win.

This book is excellent and I can’t wait to read the author’s other books.
The characters are wonderful along with the plot. This story wraps up perfectly.

Another very poignant book from the author. I'm not sure if this is a complete work of fiction or based on a true story as a few parts seem unrealistic/unbelievable. An interesting read none the less.

Whether you have or have not read of the Holocaust, read this book. It is a new angle on a much told story of man's inhumanity to man. It will draw you in and educate you. It is also a very good read.

What would a parent do to save their child? Sofia and her mum are Jewish, whilst her dad is gentile. He is co-opted to train the German doctors. Sofia and her mum feel this is a betrayal of their people. This sets the scene for one of the most poignant books I have read recently.

Does a doctor in Poland living under the Nazi occupation really have an option if he’s expected to save the lives of the SS? The doctor is not Jewish, but his wife and daughter are.

Sofia, a teen, is devastated by her father’s actions. Sofia and her mother have been insulated by the favor of her father, living on their family’s farm established generations before. But rules and laws begin to turn ugly.

Isaac is sent to work the farm owned by Sophia’s family as a slave laborer and it is there they meet and conspire to find a way to better conditions. There are POVss of Sophia, Isaac, and Olivia, as they strive to survive the horror they face daily, the ravishes of hunger, disease, faith.

The characters are well formed, the atmosphere so dark and foreboding, so frightening. You can see the barbed wire, the soldiers with their guns, smell the decay, the death. It’s an extremely emotional read, the tears are there, the reality of much that happened. It’s almost impossible to fathom, impossible to forget.

The conclusion is a quiet reflection of those who fought, steadfastly refused to quit, sought hope when it seemed forever out of reach. A difficult read but recommended. 4.5 stars

After reading The Last Words trilogy and The Bookseller of Dachau by Shari Ryan I knew that this would be another harrowing account of a time in our history that should never again be repeated.

This is a well written and compelling story of family, love, courage, resilience and bravery in the face of adversity.

It will appeal to lovers of historical fiction especially World War II and the Holocaust.

I have read quite a few books on WW2 and the holocaust and every single book breaks my heart and shatters it into a million pieces. The Doctor’s Daughter also managed to completely break me but also deliver a very powerful message of resilience, strength and courage.

The author does excellent job in portraying hardships of Jewish families and has been nicely narrated in multiple POV through the children’s’ eyes. One of the most beautiful moments this book captured was the brother-sister duo - Issac and Olivia’s relationship was well thought of and seemed very true to life. I was looking forward to discovering how Issac and Sophia’s paths cross, and that certainly did not disappoint. Sofia was the true definition of “Girl on Fire” as she was prepared for anything it took to fight the Nazi and their cruelty.

I would have loved to read more on Olivia and her struggle throughout her time at the camp. Although the timelines, especially during the end, jumped a little too quickly for me as I was keen to uncover how the survivors were trying to make it through with little resources for survival, I cannot deny the fact that this was a very well researched book and I have to applaud Shari for her beautiful writing style.

Reading about the harshness and brutality innocent souls faced in their own homes/ghettos/camps is never easy but a very important topic to keep history and its events alive.

Highly recommend to read The Doctor’s Daughter!

Thank you @netgalley, @bookouture and @authorsharijryan for the opportunity to read this book.

This follows Issac and Sofia, Sofias Father works as a doctor for the SS, and she can’t bear to look her father in the eyes.. Issac comes from a packed train.. and people are chosen to die or work and Issac is chosen to work.. and they get sent to work at Sofia family farm.. she risks hiding them food so they can eat and hands him a letter.. which is a high risk of getting caught.. this is an emotional heartwrenching love story..

5 stars totally recommend!

As a librarian and former history teacher, I tend to gravitate towards historical fiction and really enjoyed "The Doctor's Daughter". The book was very well written and offered perspectives that aren't what we typically read in a WW2 novel - the Jewish child of a father who works for the Nazis and a child who begins their journey in the Warsaw ghetto. I enjoyed how the narrators stories began separately than became more intertwined throughout the story, and will be recommending it to my friends.

Brilliant! A resounding story of hope! Another 5* and it deserves nothing less.

Isaac and Olivia live in Poland with their parents, when World War 2 breaks out the Nazi’s start rounding up the Jewish population and the world that Isaac and his sister know changes instantly beyond recognition as they are forced to live in a Polish Jewish ghetto and then are moved on to the notorious Auschwitz. Separated from each other and alone, they both have difficult but different challenges to stay alive. Isaac is sent to a local farm where he is tasked with hard labour and one day, he sees a beautiful girl in the window of the farmhouse. Sofia lives at the farm with her father, Friedrich and Jewish mother, Lena. Her father has been forced to help train new doctors coming into the SS in return for a “privileged marriage” which should keep Lena and Sofia safe from the Nazi’s. However, Lena and Sofia hate Friedrich for this, feeling that they are abandoning their own people. When Isaac and the labourers appear on the farm, Lena and Sofia see the shocking abuse they are subjected to by the guards and hatch a daring plan to not only help the labourers but also to try and save them. It’s a audacious plan and they know they are risking not only their lives but the lives of the labourers, but they can’t stand by and do nothing. Will they succeed? You’ll have to read to find out!

This was a good read. Yes, at times it definitely wasn’t easy reading and very harrowing but then no tale about the horrors of Auschwitz is easy to read. I feel it is important that these stories need to be told (and read) so that history hopefully does not repeat itself. In all honesty, while reading this book, it really made me so thankful for the simple things in life we take for granted and it really made me think. The ending was beautiful, and I cried which is always the sign of a good book.

All in all, compelling and sad but ultimately a story of strength and hope. I definitely would recommend this book to any fans of this type of historical fiction, and I look forward to reading some more of Shari J Ryans work.

Thank you to Netgalley, Shari J Ryan and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

this is totally not the type of book that I read BUT I have to say once you start reading you are drawn in. I can honestly say that as I was reading this story it felt as though I was the one living this nightmare. This takes you to a time where being Jewish was a bad thing and how one person who shows compassion can make a change.

What would a parent do to keep his family safe? How would the other loved ones feel about him as he is doing all in his power to keep them safe. Would you work for the Nazi's as a means to an end? In this book the main character decided to work for the Nazis. What would you do if you were a Jew being protected by your father while others are worked to death on your farm? This book does a great job of allowing the reader into the lives of several characters and how their loved changed throughout the course of the war.
