This is a wonderful novel.

A wholesome novel that speaks of connection and how one deals with issues. The relationship between Gigi and Hailey is really good and a pivotal point for me. A perfect story for young adults who strive to learn more about life and the meaningful story we all have within us. The pop culture is a tad bit of a fun addition as well.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Hailey is 15, and about to have the worst summer of her life because her best friend is in trouble, and Hailey is going to be alone. Add to that her parents are making her spend time with her grandmother, who she's never been close to.

Despite her misgivings, Hailey grows to enjoy her time with Gigi, getting to know her and catching the eye of the cute boy down the street. A long forgotten family treasure that may or may be a myth adds to the adventure.

An enjoyable coming of age story that really gets the difficult dynamic of families and learning who you are. Thank you #netgalley and #sparkspress for the ARC!

I loved this book so much I devoured it in one sitting! If you’re a YA reader or a reader who is trying to dive into the YA genre more I definitely recommend you give this one a shot!

This story managed to cover some pretty heavy subjects - death, strained family relationships, and just growing up in general while still being a whole lot of fun! The relationships in this book just felt so genuine and I loved getting to experience them through Hailey’s eyes.

Hailey’s adventures with Gigi reminded me so much of my own experiences with my grandparents, sharing stories, talking about books, listening to The Beatles and taking some crazy road trips - it gave me the warm fuzzies!

My only critique about the book is that the ending felt very rushed! We spent so much time getting to know these characters and watching Hailey and Gigi’s relationship blossom, but after the story’s major conflict/event (trying to be spoiler free here) it all just came together too quickly! I would have loved to see more of Hailey coming out of her grief with the help from family and friends, and I also would have liked to see a bit more of an adventure/conflict surrounding Hailey and Blake’s journey to finding the family treasure! But I guess if my only critique is that I wanted MORE… it was a pretty great book!

Thanks to the author SparkPress and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review, I can’t wait to grab a copy when it is published on August 2nd!

What a truly beautiful book. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I'm not sure what to say about this book other than I was hooked from the third page and adored how the plot played out.

As someone who grew up with a strained family relationship, seing GiGi and Hailey's relationship evolve made my heart full and wish that I had the option to rekindle a relationship with my nan.

I will be re reading this and if it becomes a netflix adaptation in 2023 I will not be in the least bit surprised.

I enjoyed the dynamic between the granddaughter and grandmother, however I found the pacing of the book a bit slow for my tastes. I think my library patrons will enjoy the story though and I will include it on our purchase list.

Have you ventured into the world of Young Adult (YA)? If you haven't, start here. This was a great book. For a first-time writer, I am super impressed. Stollenwerck has done a great job with this one!

Hailey is 15 and its her summer vacation, but her parents have asked her to spend some time with her aging grandmother, Gigi; she apprehensively agrees. When she begins visiting with Gigi, she quickly learns that she and Gigi have a lot in common: their love of reading, music, and even in the array of colors of lipsticks and perfume scents. Gigi also has a request of Hailey: to figure out the mystery of her parents, Jack and Ilse. She knows that Ilse died in childbirth and that Jack brought Gigi to his sister to raise her, but she is unclear about some of the mysteries that he left behind. Hailey and Gigi find out some information but Gigi has a stroke and doesn't recover. Meanwhile, Hailey and the high school football offensive lineman, Blake, have been flirting and establishing a relationship. He helps her find the hideout that Jack had referred to in his communications where they find more than they think, so much more.

This book publishes on August 2, 2022 and you need to buy it ASAP. It is totally worth it. One of my favorites and not too juvenile, so don't be afraid to venture into Young Adult.

This a beautiful coming of age story! I devoured it one day. Hailey fifteen years old is told by her parents that she has to spend her summer helping her grandmother Gigi. She doesn't even know Gigi, sounds like the worst summer ever. She soon finds out that her and her grandmother have more in common than she ever imagined. She finds out about family secrets, and doors to her past that need to be discovered. With her grandmothers help she learns to be more confident, and her grandmother pushes her out of her shell. The boy next door to grandmother is the cutest boy that goes to her school. With a little push from grandma a friendship develops, maybe more. ;)

Great book for YA to Adult, great reminder of the importance of family. When I was a kid I spent summers with my grandparents, and it was the best. I started researching my family history and there are so many unanswered questions. I wish they were still alive to ask, I give anything to have one day with them.

I hope to read more from this author, I am going to purchase this book and share with all my friends and family.

Thank you to NetGalley and SparkPress for gifting me a copy of this book for my honest review.

I will start by saying I loved this book. 15 year old Hailey reluctantly agrees to help her grandma, Gigi, a few days a week during the summer. She soon learns this isn’t a job really at all. She finds in Gigi her biggest fan and someone to have adventures with. Hailey also learns family secrets that might help her mom understand Gigi’s life choices better via an old letter from Hailey’s great grandfather. I love the connection between Hailey and Gigi. I think every granddaughter would love to have a grandmother who thinks the world of them the way Gigi does of Hailey.

I think this book is a perfect mix of tone with some very serious themes included. I enjoyed it a lot, even if it feels a little like it was geared towards somebody younger. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone outside of its age range but anyone under 18 or so would definitely enjoy it!
THINGS I LIKED:
The beginning sentence packed a punch.
A lot of the one-liners made me giggle a lot.
I love Hailey's banter with her father. It's sweet and very realistic. Also, her relationship with her whole family was so sweet.
I absolutely love our main character. And Gigi is awesome
This is a super interesting twist on a common concept.
THE GREAT GATSBY!!!!! I LOVE GATSBY
The message is genuinely so important.
This was a great way of making serious issues accessible

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:
It took me a little while to get the intended audience for this book- it's sort of like a young-young adult vibe in my opinion. Once I realized that, a lot clicked more.
I wish we got to see a little more of Livi at the beginning instead of just hearing about her, even if it was texts or something.
Hailey sometimes feels inconsistent- on the one hand, she's ranting about how it's the end of the world that she's going to Gigi's but then she's totally cool wiht it and stops complaining soon after.
Hailey is always so mean about her dad's appearance and it really bothers me

✨BOOK REVIEW✨

Thank you to Netgalley and Spark Press for this ARC.

What a beautiful story of family strength, connection with a sprinkle of The Beatles.

Fifteen-year-old Hailey Rogers is sure her summer is ruined when her parents tell her she has to spend a few days a week, every week, helping her grandmother, Gigi. Although Gigi only lives across town, Hailey never sees her and knows little about her. But Gigi is full of surprises--and family secrets. Throw in the gorgeous boy down the street, and Hailey's ruined summer might just be the best of her life. Then tragedy strikes, lies are uncovered, and Hailey's life suddenly falls apart. After unearthing clues in an old letter written by her great-grandfather, she takes off on a road trip to solve the family mystery with the only person she can trust. In a forgotten Texas town, the past and the present collide--and Hailey is forced to choose what she truly values in life.

The ending was a little far fetched for me, but it definitely tugged on heartstrings. At times my copy of the book had many weird spacing issues and spelling errors, which were a little distracting throughout. The relationship between Hailey and her Grandmother Gigi and their love for The Beatles was so nostalgic for me! A remarkably inspirational story that I recommend you pick up.

I love this book. I could hardly put it down. It’s plot, characters, and relatability made it so good.
The story follows Hailey, a teenager, who has to help her grandmother Gigi. Gigi is considered eccentric and perhaps crazy by the family. She is the key to the plot. Hailey becomes fascinated by Gigi’s behavior and tries to uncover the truth about her grandfather’s life and locate the treasure that was hidden by him. Gigi helps Hailey find romance . She introduces her to the songs of the Beatles. One of them, is “Hello, Goodbye,” the title of this book. Gigi teaches and communicates often through the songs. I grew up with those songs so I could really understand what Gigi was trying to say to Hailey and later Blake, her boyfriend.
The characters’ lives were complex, but very relatable. That made me want to read. All of the characters grow and owe that to Gigi.
As I said before, I loved this novel. I highly recommend it. It should appeal to young adults especially.

This. Book.
I absolutely loved it!
It gave me Nightingale vibes at the beginning and Inheritance Games at the end! It also gives a shout out to The Great Gatsby and The Beatles….perfection!!!

This book follows a high school girl named Hailey over her summer break. Her parents make her go to her grandmothers home to help around the house. Hailey discovers her grandmother is a quirky, fun loving woman with an interesting life story. Her grandmother gives her clues about the past so that Hailey can carry on her story and discover the secretes buried in the past.
It was the perfect YA for me, five stars!

Thank you to the author, Kate Stollenwerck, and NetGalley. This was an awesome read!!!

3.5!

Hello, Goodbye has a lot: romance, the sweetest granddaughter-grandmother relationship, mystery, history, teen antics, and a deep dive into family history.

This was chock-full of pop culture references-especially The Beatles-which I can imagine will appeal to many readers, though I don't have any particular attachment to The Beatles so there was a bit of a missed connection there for me. Still, I really loved how Hailey and Gigi bonded through books, music, and Gigi's old classic car. Their relationship was SUCH a highlight for me. Hailey as a character is really determined and pretty fearless. There were times when the narration/voice got on my nerves, but overall she's teenagery and a lot of what she goes through will be relatable for many readers.

The ending went in a direction I wasn't really expecting at all, but was a pleasant surprise! It felt a bit far-fetched, but it was still enjoyable. Overall this is a fast-paced YA novel focused on familial relationships with a dash of detective-work and cute romance. :)

A really fun read that keeps you on your toes! As the mystery starts to unfold so does your perspective of certain characters and I enjoyed not knowing exactly who to trust. Some of the teenage characters were very unrealistic, but I think that's part of their charm and I loved seeing the conventionally popular boys not being bullies for once, instead, they love and appreciate their elders! The book doesn't take long to get going at all. I found I was hooked straight from the start and I didn't want to put it down until I finished it, definitely a good book to get you out of a reading slump.

I’m on page 18 and I can already tell I am going to love this book. I’m eager for more every time I read when I can. This is honestly a story I’ve been waiting for. I cannot wait until this book is in stores so I can buy a physical copy. I’m giving this book 5 stars even though I’m no where to finishing because it deserves it!

What a lovely story from this first-time author! I was swept into Hailey's world immediately. Ms. Stollenwerck did an excellent job creating a realistic story for a contemporary teen, complete with social media dilemmas, learning to drive and the struggle to define oneself during high school. These aspects widened throughout the book, ending with a meaningful story about how young people find their place in the world. I will look for future titles from this author.

Hello, Goodbye is one of those books that reels you in so slowly you don't even know you're hooked until your crying your way through the final few chapters. Kate Stollenwerck has crafted an incredible YA novel focused on the story of 15yo Hailey and the wild family history she discovers while helping out her 74yo grandmother, Gigi.

If you love family drama, young love, adventure, and tales of the past you will ADORE this book! I read it in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down.

Hailey Rogers feels doomed when she learns from her parents that she has to spend a few days a week helping her grandmother around her house. But the fifteen-year-old quickly becomes enamored with her grandmother and a family history she is just learning for the first time.

When family secrets are shared and new ones discovered, Hailey and her grandma's cute neighbor Blake are eager to uncover the rest. Full of Beatles lyrics, historical fiction, and pop culture references, this coming-of-age story is one that I think most teens will love.
