Did I tear up while reading this story? Yes. Yes, I did.

Beautiful You, Beautiful Me is a sweet story about a little girl, Izzy, who realizes that she doesn't look the same as her mama. Different skin color, different hair types. But she wants to be the kind of beautiful that her mama is. Izzy goes for a walk with her mama one day and realizes that not all babies match their mamas but they still belong to one another. Just like Izzy is a part of her mama, her mama is a part of her. They are both beautiful in their own unique way!

I adore the message of this story and would love to share this with my class. The beautiful illustrations and vibrant colors add to the richness of this picture book. Thank you NetGalley and OwlKids Books for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Beautiful You, Beautiful Me is a really sweet book that shows that even if we look different from one another, there is still love! I really loved the illustrations in this book, they were calming but so well done. I loved the relationship between Izzy and her mom, and how her mom kept telling her they are both beautiful in their own ways!

A beautiful picture book that shows the beauty in each mother and child, especially when the child sees the differences between them and their mother. The unconditional love that the child experiences is evident on every page,

This book is beautifully thought out. I loved the illustrations as well as the concept of the book. The way mom explains to Izzy about the differences between them and still makes the statement that she is beauty like herself teaches her about her natural beauty. Loved it! I would use this title as a resource for future children's programs at our library. Thank you for sharing this beautifully written book.

Through a gentle, repeated refrain, Beautiful You, Beautiful Me gives children and parents words of love and acceptance to help build a confident and secure child. Having different features from her mother is a cause for questions, but not a cause for alarm once the mother shows her daughter examples in the animal kingdom of mothers and children with differences. This book is sweetly written and beautifully illustrated, and is recommended for ages 3-7.

Izzy loves her mother and wants to be just like her, but one day she notices that they don't look exactly the same. Izzy's skin looks like chocolate, but Mama's skin looks like sand. What follows is a look at Izzy's realization of all the ways that she and her mother are different. Because Izzy wants to be just like her mother, she finds this somewhat upsetting, but Mama replies with the comforting refrain of "I'm beautiful like me, and you're beautiful like you" to show her that being different isn't such a bad thing. This book is a great, simple way to discuss differences in how we look and to help children realize that they are beautiful no matter what they look like. It is also an easy introduction to questions of race/ethnicity and could even be used to talk about adoption.
