A series of renamed recipes connected to the writings and characters of Stephen King is called Castle Rock Kitchen. He pens the preface, which is rather excellent! You also know that he must conclude it with a joke of some kind. I find all of the recipes to be quite simple; many of them I am already acquainted with; the only differences are minor name changes. The recipes themselves are simple to follow and comprehend, and the ingredients are somewhat ordinary. Before the recipes are some paragraphs that relate them to the whole experience. Fans of Stephen King are simply having a good time.

Such a cool book.! I love how the book excerpt comes before the recipe, so you know exactly what you're cooking. The book is divided into realistic categories so you can find what you need. There are recipes of all cooking levels. This book is such a fun addition to any kitchen!

Love cookbooks based on my faviorite shows and books and this one was no exception! Loved that the recipes focus on New England cooking too.

So, my husband is a big Stephen King fan and I'm the cook around the house. It was nice to have a merge of interests within this cookbook. Some recipes were easier than others.

Stephen King is a staple when it comes to any horror fan, but what about adding a little bit of atmosphere to you life. This cookbook does just that by blending together the settings of his novels and stories to a mixture of dishes that really just adds a new layer to any lover of King's work. The book was beautifully laid out, the images were set up well and meshed with the recipes. Truly delightful, I will be purchasing for my sister in law, as well as recommending for purchase at our library.

Even non-King fans will love this book. The pictures are fabulous. And the recipes are just really good. King fans will get a lot more out of the book but don’t overlook this as kitschy. It is absolutely not.

Lots of good recipes in here. The Stephen King characters references were very clever. I'm not a cook but I would try some of these!

⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- Great cover!

I have yet to meet a themed cookbook I didn't love, and this one was no different! 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ With a forward by the master himself this book makes a perfect gift for any Stephen King fan. The recipes were well laid out and easy to follow. Most accompanied by a quote from one of King's books. The illustrations are beautiful (I wish there had been a few more). I have only had time to try a couple of the recipes, but both the "Killer Mac and Cheese" and "Rotisserie Chicken Pie" were delish! This is definitely worth a buy if you love themed cookbooks as much as me!

Castle Rock Kitchen is a collection of Stephen King themed and named recipes developed and curated by Theresa Carle-Sanders. Released 4th Oct 2022 by Penguin Random House on their Ten Speed Press imprint, it's 256 pages and is available in hardcover, spiral bound, and ebook format.

The recipes here are for unfettered, basic, down-to-earth food (don'cha know). The book's introduction is capably handled by the King of Horror himself. I am a pretty big King fan and I learned a number of things about him of which I was previously completely unaware. I won't say the intro alone is worth the price of admission, but it was unquestionably cool and recommended.

Prior to the recipe chapters, the author has provided a generous and well written introduction to the particular local ingredients which will be difficult (or impossible) to source outside of New England; but which thankfully can be obtained via online retailers or the generosity of a local friend and the USPS. The dishes are arranged thematically into chapters: breakfast, dinner, supper, fish & shellfish, vegetarian, side dishes, baking & sweets, drinks & cocktails, and basics.

Recipe ingredients are provided in a bullet list. Measurements are given in imperial (American) units only, no metric measures, followed by step-by-step instructions. One of the things I really liked was the snippets of King books in the headings for each recipe (they're annotated, so readers can find the relevant novels). The dishes are photographed well and clearly. Additionally there's a home-y "manual typewriter" retro vibe about the chapter heading photos, typesetting, and layout.

Four and a half stars. Some readers will likely think the whole vibe is a bit over the top (with the manual typewriter typeface (only in some places) and retro photography) but it's thematically cool and adds substantively to the overall vibe of the book.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Castle Rock Kitchen deep dives in the world of Stephen King with this delicious cookbook. The foreward by King has it all: King's witty sense of humor, tasty descriptions of native food from Maine, and reference to his work. Each recipe is tied to a story in the King universe and includes inscriptions on how the dish relates. The photographs included are beautiful as well. They contribute to an all over atmospheric and enjoyable cookbook for all the Constant Reader chefs out there.

I'm grateful to NetGalley for the ARC copy of Castle Rock Kitchen.

As I always do when reading a cookbook I work my way through the whole book and pick a few recipes to try out to see how easy or difficult they will be to make. The first recipe I chose was the Potato and Collard Soup recipe. Being from the south collards are a must have ingredient especially for get togethers and holidays. I figured this soup would make a great addition to add to my repertoire. With cooler weather making its way here I start makng soups more, this one was definitely tasty and I know I'll make it again. The second recipe I picked was the Life Sentence Oatmeal, the addition of coconut in a couple of ways excited me. Coconut is a favored ingredient and I enjoy making oatmeal during cooler months. It was delicious and has now been added to my must save recipes. I must say I love Stephen King and his writing so I was truly excited for this cookbook and it didn't disappoint. I look forward to going back and trying more recipes and reading about the different books included inside.

As a longtime fan of Stephen King I was curious about Castle Rock Kitchen. I thought the recipes would be novel, I did not expect them to be so good - but they are! Stephen King wrote the forward, which is delightful. Enjoyable and perfect for fans of King and good food.

I have loved Stephen King since I first read The Shining on the beach in Hawaii when I was eighteen and could see the goosebumps on my arms despite the sun. Currently I am reading his latest Fairytale, so I could not resist the opportunity to read this cookbook! Whether you love to cook or hate it, this is a must for every Stephen King fan to add to their collection. He himself wrote an insightful forward which has us all sitting at a table with him. One might ask- are the recipes one you would actually want to make? The answer is yes and I am baking the Blueberry Lemon Curd Muffins today! No goosebumps required.

I've read that it's difficult to photograph food in an appealing manner--can't prove it by this book. I don't just want to eat the food pictured, I want to crawl into the photograph and experience the whole mood.

This book brings together a few of my favorite things--Maine, food, and writing. It's not just a cookbook, it's a literary exploration. Still, I can't wait to try some of the recipes. #CastleRockKitchen #NetGalley

I'm a big fan of Stephen King novels and film adaptations, so I was super excited to see there would be a cookbook inspired by his work. And bonus - he wrote the foreword! There's even a map of Stephen King's Maine. Organized into sections like Breakfast, Dinner, Supper (we are in Maine now, folks), and Side Dishes, I was especially delighted to see full chapters devoted to 'Fish and Shellfish' and 'Vegetarian.' Each recipe is introduced by an excerpt from a King novel or short story, and many are titled in homage as well. Highlights for me are the crab cake recipe in Gramma's Crab Cake Brunch, Killer Mac & Cheese, Shrimp Tetrazzini, Game Day Fondue, Wild Mushroom Hand Pies, and the Tarragon Tartar and Cocktail Sauces. The food photography is delectable, and the outdoor shots of Maine give this collection an even stronger sense of place. A must-have for King fans and would-be Down Easters! Published just in time for Halloween.

I received a digital galley of this book in exchange for an honest review, and loved this one so much that I purchased a hardcover for my permanent collection.

Entertaining and offering many recipes, these are inspired from Mr. King's novels. I found the Dog Days French Toast (Cujo) and Pancakes with the Toziers (It) especially good!

This love letter to Stephen King and the cuisine of Maine is a delight. The writing is lovely and the dishes warm and comforting despite the spooky stories in which they are mentioned. The recipes are accompanied by beautiful photos by Jenny Bravo, and King's preface to the book is witty and sharp. A must for any King fans!
