Maddie James has big plans for the summer season at JJ's House of Purrs. But when her friend, master meditator and Tai Chi teacher Cass Hendricks, brings a potential animal hoarding situation to her attention, Maddie has to refocus her attention on the furry felines who may need a helping paw. When Maddie and Cass go to Laurel's to check out the situation, not only do they find a plethora of cats in need, but also a dead body. This was a super cute and easy read, great for summer. If you are an animal lover, you will love this furry mystery!

I love the characters in this book, even the cats!

Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love a good cozy mystery! One that incorporates all of my favorite topics (i.e. bookstores, libraries, cooking, painting, inn keeping, animals, etc.), throwing in some action-suspense, a who-done-it, interesting characters, and a plot that keeps me guessing, then you’ve got me hooked. I will say, I am one of those people who like to read a series from the beginning, but I often find you don’t have to… either way I highly recommend Gone but Not Furgotten by Cate Conte.

*I received a complimentary copy of this novel from NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.*

Maddie has things under control at her rescue JJ's House of Purrs. Her plans are changed when a friend Cass asks for her help with a hoarding case. In addition to the cats in need, Maddie and Cass find a dead body. Maddie finds herself immersed in another mystery. She and her grandfather must solve the mystery before Cass is a permanent resident in jail. I enjoy this cat themed series. Grandpa Leo is favorite character although JJ is a very close second.

This is book 6 in the Cat Cafe series and it's a great addition. It can be read as a stand alone but you'll want to enjoy some of the background by reading some of the previous books. Cass and Maddie go to check out a potential hoarder of animals when they find her dead. As they start to care for the cats they begin to investigate how she died. With Grandpa Leo's help, Maddie has to dig into the secrets this small community is keeping close to find out why Laurel really died before Cass is put behind bars . . . or the killer strikes again.

This is the first book that I have read by this author but it will not be the last. I enjoyed the storyline and the cast of characters. The book held my interest from the first couple of pages to the end.

In this 6th in the series, Maddie James (who renovated her grandfather's house on Daybreak Island into a cat café, JJ's House of Purrs) .must cope with the murder of a cat hoarder - and all the felines she left behind!

Maddie marshals all her contacts and resources to help catch, house, heal and foster the cats while investigating the murder. When someone close to her comes under suspicion, she turns to Grandpa Leo for help.

It's a cute story but I have to say that the kitties and their fates engaged me even more than the mystery itself.

What she finds is more than just animals, the owner is dead and it appears to be an accident. But the timing is odd and as Maddie starts to ask questions, things aren’t adding up. Will Maddie land on her feet or use one of her nine lives?

Gone but not Furgotten is the
Sixth book in the cat cafe mystery series. Maddie along with Grandpa Leo are a fantastic team for solving mysteries. I’m a cat lady. I have three and I love them so this book was right up my alley. I loved the town and the concept. I didn’t not guess the murderer until it was explicitly stated.

Gone But Not Furgotten: A Cat Café Mystery
By Cate Conte
St. Martin’s Paperbacks

Review by Cynthia Chow

Along with her Grandpa Leo and business partner Ethan Birdsong, Maddie James is co-owner of JJ House of Purrs, a cat shelter and human café built from her grandfather’s renovated home on Massachusetts’ Daybreak Island. While it has become her happy place, Maddie’s path to bliss has been helped along by Cass Hendricks, a metaphysical bookstore owner and tai chi instructor. So Maddie is more than willing to help when Cass asks for her help concerning one of his clients, a woman he fears has something of a cat problem. That is very much an understatement, as when Maddie and Cass go to the home of Laurel McKenna they find it overrun with felines hidden in the basement. They also find Laurel’s body at the bottom of her stairs, with her neck broken from a possible accident. The likelihood of it being something far more suspicious increases as it emerges that Laurel had no shortage of enemies, as her cat hoarding had made her a nuisance to both neighbors and animal lovers. For as much as Laurel may have believed that she was helping to save the cats, the lack of adequate hygiene put everyone at risk.

Although her grandfather Leo Mancini was the former police chief for Daybreak Harbor, the law enforcement department of the less prosperous Fisherman’s Cove don’t look fondly upon his or Maddie’s interference. That’s too bad, as when a sketchy police officer seems intent on quickly arresting Cass there’s no way that Maddie will sit on the sidelines. Juggling local politics is almost as difficult as re-housing the nearly 70 cats they find in Laurel’s home, with the felines’ ages and health needs all requiring individual assessments. Since Laurel is not around to explain her initial goals or attempts to help her cats, it’s difficult to justify the horrific sanitary conditions or lack of proper veterinary care.

This 6th in the series takes a hard, but still sympathetic, examination into the problems of animal hoarding. What begins as an act of compassion can quickly escalate to a mental health concern, with the animals becoming as endangered by their savior as by the initial abandonment. Balancing out the darker side of hoarding are glimpses into Maddie’s much more controlled and friendly cat shelter, of course helmed by her own rescue cat JJ. The unexpected arrival of her younger sister has Maddie fearing the worst from her flighty sibling, but Sam proves to be an expected master of social media promotion and rescue fundraising. An additional murder midway through the novel escalates the tension, with a solution at the end that comes unexpectedly but still in a satisfying manner. Maddie’s investigation always seems justifiable and practical, with Grandpa Leo giving her believable law enforcement authority as they eliminate alibis and motives. This is a fun novel with a unique New England island setting that depicts local politics and the struggles of safe cat rescuing. The genial residents and business owners of Daybreak Harbor further make this a very welcoming and compelling read.

In this cute and cozy cat-themed novel, Maddie works with her Grandpa Leo and others to solve a suspicious death. The best part of the novel is the cats and cat cafe idea. Readers who like cozy mysteries featuring animals, with a lot of potential crime suspects, will enjoy this offering in the mystery genre.

I received this novel from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Maddie James has to take care of a the cats of a murdered cat hoarder in Gone But not Furgotten by Cate Conte.
While she works on rescuing and finding forever homes for 70 cats and running her cat cafe, she also has to figure out who murdered the hoarder. Many suspects and lots of action. Great cat cozy.

Princess Fuzzypants here: Maddie’s friend Cass alerts her to a potential cat hoarding situation but when the two arrive at the home, they discover it is much worse than expected. Not only are there far more cats involved but they discover the hoarders body at the bottom of the stairs. At first it seems she may have tripped on a cat and fallen but when an acquaintance of the woman is murdered, it opens up the possibility that there are now two murders.

Maddie and JJ work with her team of volunteers and staff to rescue the kitties and find them homes or fosters. But as she learns more about the connections between the two deceased and several others in their small community, she starts to look at potential suspects. She is driven to investigate when Cass is questioned. Good thing two of the cops from Daybreak Island with whom she has worked before are seconded to work the crime. They are willing and eager to share information with Maddie and her grandfather. Thanks to Maddie, they do figure out who is the killer but in trying to come up with proof, Maddie may end up the third victim.

I always enjoy these stories. JJ is a great character and Maddie and the other humans are pretty good too. We also have a new housemate, a schnoodle named Walter. Now how cute it that! Five purrs and two paws up.

Maddie James agrees to try meditation with her friend Cass. But after he discovers a deceased student, Maddie finds herself rescuing over 60 cats. Even worse, Cass is accused of murder. Can Maddie and her PI grandpa and other friends solve the murders before someone else falls victim?
Gone But Not Furgotten is the sixth book in the Cat Café series. The author includes adequate backstory, but I found myself feeling lost in a few places and probably should have read this series in order.
I like the timeline at the top of each chapter. It helped me keep my place as the story progressed.
Maddie is quite adept at setting boundaries and not being co-dependent. For example, she sees her partner in need of assistance in the cafe and goes to take a nap instead.
The orange cat JJ stars in this show. I really enjoyed the cat aspect of the story.

This book takes place in a small town. It's a bookstore which also has a tai-chi.studio., crystal healing place, and a tea house all in one business.
Cass found Laurel who owned and inherited the place dead on the floor at the bottom of thr stairs. Cats everywhere. She was a cat hoarder. Over 55 cats up to 60 cats.
They worked together after Laurel was found dead. To rescue the cats and get them healthy because most were sick and get them adopted the moral.of this story is you work together you can make things better.
This ebook was gifted to me by NetGalley and the publisher

Cute and quirky. Well written and keeps the reader engaged. The main character owns a rescue and is called in to help rescue many cats. They get there to discover the owner dead and many more animals then anticipated. Looking into the death of the owner leads them all over this small island to figure out what happened.

Gone but Not Furgotten by Cate Conte is book six in the Cat Cafe Mystery series. This is a great series!
Maddie is asked to check on a possible cat hoarding situation in a nearby village. When she gets to the house, she not only finds a severe hoarding problem but the body of the woman hoarding the cats. It appears she has fallen down the stairs, possibly over a cat. Once the officials have ruled her death an accident, Maddie starts removing the cats. Once she starts, she has over 70 cats to rescue. She feels something is right when there is no purse or phone. What if it was a robbery gone wrong. Then when a second body is found in the village and a friend of Maddie's is considered a prime suspect, Maddie starts her own investigation.
This easy to read Cozy has plenty of suspects and twists and turns and you are guessing to the end. The characters are likeable and relatable. There is family, friendship, romance and plenty of cats. You will find yourself wanting to visit the cafe.
I was given an ARC by St. Martin's Press vis NetGalley for an honest review.
