Alexander has done it again; this is an incredibly well written dual time-line and storyline mystery, with plenty of twists and turns, which had me guessing to the end. Plus I loved the nod to Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. And I continue to be amazed by Alexander’s ability to write two interweaving mysteries, the ancient Egyptian storyline and characters were top notch and so interesting. I can honestly say this is a favorite series and it’s always a joy to catch up with Lady Emily, Colin and friends. I can’t wait to read their next adventure. This is the 16th book in the Lady Emily Ashton Mysteries series and can be read as a stand-alone. But if you want to start at the beginning, and why wouldn’t you, be sure to read And Only to Deceive, the first in the series.

Love this series, and I have long held a fascination with the Nile, so this might have been my favorite! If you are a fan of historical mystery, I recommend giving this series a try though I would start at the beginning.

Oh to be cruising the Nile. This book makes me wish I could visit. When Lady Emily and her husband Colin Hargreaves are invited by an old friend to his lavish home in Egypt, they hope to enjoy the surroundings. But on the first night, Lord Deeley collapses and dies from cyanide poisoning. The entire group is immediately under suspicion. As Lady Emily and Colin investigate, it becomes apparent there are many viable candidates for the murderer. Another delightful book in this series. As always looking forward to the next

"Secrets of the Nile" is a mystery set in 1904 in Egypt. There's also a secondary story going on in Ancient Egypt in the same area. This book is the 16th in a series. You can understand this book without reading the previous ones, and the story didn't spoil the mysteries or major events of the previous books.

The author alternated between the murder mystery and a story about a women who sculpted some of the amazing statues collected by the host of the party. The author wove setting and period details into the story. Emily asked questions, followed up on clues, and considered possible scenarios until she figured out what was going on. She was intelligent, likable, and reacted realistically to events. I started suspecting whodunit about halfway through as that person could have easily done everything. Further clues only confirmed my choice. So whodunit was guessable from the clues.

There were no sex scenes, though there was an attempted rape scene. There were a few uses of bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable novel.

I will read or atleast check out anything related to Agatha Christie. This was unique and I appreciated what the author was going for. It wasn't quite as good as what I'd hoped for but it wasn't awful either.

This is my First Lady Emily book and I loved it! The nobility of characters and the atmospheric writing had me reading into the night. More Peabody than Agatha but definitely all fun reads.

So This is the 16th book in the Lady Emily Ashton Mysteries series and so far it has been an interesting series! Emily has been an interesting character to follow throughout these books and seeing her turn into a more confident young woman! Each book has a new mystery and a tie in with ancient times. This time it's about some mysterious actions from the times of the Pharaohs. Which makes Egypt a beautiful and perfect setting for this story. It's easy to follow along between the two stories and with the mix you get an entertaining story that has a good pace and a nice adventure!

Secrets of the Nile by Tasha Alexander is the latest Lady Emily mystery.

Alexander does a wonderful job of involving the reader in the story.
The writing is excellent, highly atmospheric and well paced, I almost felt like I was there. 
The characters are vividly executed and the details of the area make them come alive. 
The mystery is interesting and well plotted, kept me guessing throughout the story.
If you enjoy historical fiction mysteries then you'll love this one!

They have been invited by Colin's Mother's friend, to take a cruise up the Nile to his home in Luxor. Egypt is beautiful and atmospheric, the perfect setting for the book. The other invited guests have assembled and are all connected to the host in some capacity. Their personalities and looks are all varied; this looks to be an entertaining trip. The first night they all have dinner, Sir Bertram Deeley dies. Shocked but wholly in their element, Colin and Emily quickly take over by contacting the police and interviewing the guests and staff. The guests are told not to leave until the murder is solved. Colin is experienced in crime in his capacity of service to The Crown as an agent. Emily has assisted unofficially in many of his investigations, capably bringing murderers to justice. They are a formidable, capable and lovely couple.

In another timeline, another story is told in Egypt about mysterious doings during the time of the Pharaohs. It eventually ties into the present story. The two stories are easy to read alternatively. It is British colonial rule right now in Egypt and Sir Bertram was an inexperienced but generous archaeological enthusiast, collecting antiquities. His guests vary from the background of archaeologist, political, and more. The possible motive for murder is as varied as the guests. They each are found to have a grievance with Sir Bertram. Among the beautiful Nile and sites, Colin and Emily quickly find the solution to the murder. It is both surprising and fitting with the location. I adore this series and can't get enough! Tasha Alexander is one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to read more!

I continue to love this story and especially Tasha Alexander’s ability to include historical details that educate me while I am enjoying the story. This book was. not my favorite, I found the switch between storylines a little abrupt and the Meryt story was just not that compelling. And the outcome was very disappointing- it seemed like a separate story that barely had ties to the Lady Emily plot. As usual the characters are unique and have little secrets that must be uncovered. The resolution was also unique. I received an ARC from the publisher St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley and appreciate the opportunity to read this book.

Tasha Alexander is an author that I automatically purchase each time a new Lady Emily book is released. This is by far the best on released to date! I love how I was transported to Egypt and the ruins of the ancient civilization. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves great historical fiction and mystery.

Murder, mystery, mayhem, oh my! Secrets of the Nile is an engrossing who-done-it set in 1900’s Egypt. Colin’s mother, Mrs. Hargreaves, has been invited by her longtime friend, Lord Bertram Deeley to sail the Nile to his home in Luxor. She asks both Colin and Emily to join her, as well as Colin’s daughter Kat. Alas, the perfect trip is not to be. Murder and mystery seem to follow Lady Emily wherever she goes and this time it is no different. What is supposed to be a delightful stay in Luxor travelling to various ancient sites, and relaxing with the other invited guests, turns into mayhem when Lord Deeley drops dead one evening after being poisoned. Everyone instantly becomes a suspect including Colin’s own mother and daughter. Secret motives are unearthed as Lady Emily quite literally digs for clues as to who would want Deeley dead. As a collector of antiquities, the clues to Deeley’s death may lie in ushabtis statues that Deeley has in his home. The ushabtis were made by a woman named Meryt a thousand years earlier. She herself is struggling to find out why would someone sabotage her and her household. Does someone close to her want her dead? Is it because of the ushabtis? Both Lady Emily and Meryt must race to save their friends and family before it is too late. The ending of the book, took me completely by surprise! Secrets of the Nile is book sixteen in the Lady Emily Mystery series. It is packed with history, adventure, and mystery. Themes of betrayal, love, revenge, and redemption are at the heart of this novel. The astounding attention to detail made me feel as though I were walking the desert sands and searching for ancient tombs right alongside Lady Emily. It is rare that an author can so captivate a reader, but Ms. Alexander’s gift of writing does exactly that. The way that Ms. Alexander is able to tie together two stories taking place thousands of years apart is amazing. The development of the characters, plot, attention to detail, and historical tie-ins is what makes Ms. Alexander an exceptional author. I love love love this series. The setting in Egypt is always fascinating, and then the mystery itself kept me guessing until the end.

I enjoy this historical mystery series, and appreciated the nod to an Agatha Christie classic here. This was a satisfying mystery with a likeable main character. The only thing I didn't really like was the snippets of story told from the point of view of the ancient sculptor. Kind of detracted from the flow of the story.

Tasha Alexander is a master at historical mystery and the Lady Emily books never disappoint. While some of the details of the Egyptian narrative felt like they dragged a little, this was nonetheless a great addition to the series.

Tasha Alexander is one of the best historical mystery writers in the business nowadays, and for those who have yet to discover her - you are in for a delightful treat! A long-running series, you can read this book as a stand-alone, but you will be hooked instantly, and then should start from the beginning. Ms. Alexander is able to take you on a trip down the Nile - with murder, mystery, and romance all wrapped up in this delightful novel. Take a trip yourself and enjoy the ride! You won't be sorry. I can promise you that Colin and Emily are one of the best couples to ever grace the pages. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this wonderful treat!

Another intriguing historical mystery! Set in Egypt and seeming to be something of an homage to Agatha Christie, this 16th installment to the series features plucky, smart and independent Lady Emily once again solving a murder mystery while advocating for women’s rights in word and in deed, together with a storyline focusing on the talents of a sculptress in ancient Egypt. I’ve read all of the Lady Emily books and appreciate Alexander’s intelligent, well crafted prose and the fact I learn new information in each of these tales. In her latest, the novel felt a bit too similar to her 2020 book set in Pompeii (In the Shadow of Vesuvius) and, as in Vesuvius, I thought the ancient storyline was not as well developed as Lady Emily’s. That said, this book is likely to be enjoyed by all Lady Emily “regulars” and other fans of smart historical mysteries featuring strong women protagonists. Three and a half stars, rounded up.
