I snagged this on Netgalley because it was a free audio listen and realized I had it on my kindle as well. I’m a bit torn with this one because it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. So many character names to remember and a slow paced story. The concept was nice, but execution lacked.

This book was very promising and the synopsis leads you to believe this will be a great story. It was simply ok..very cliche in its plot and gave serious twilight vibes…only with fae.

The characters were not overly interesting and the MC was written in a rather annoyingly naive and overly trusting manner that made it hard to relate. The events that occurred felt random and illogical and did little in the way of clarifying how we got from point a to point b.

I would consider this a classic cheesy, twilight-esque read that while not groundbreaking will definitely keep you entertained if you don’t look too closely at the plot. The dialogue was done really well so it made it easy to finish however I do not feel the desire to continue with this series.

I really liked enjoyed it, I was expecting a fantasy world by the description but its set in this world and at some point there are some facts that seem too unbelievable like thinking they live right in the graveyard, people usually own a funeral home or a graveyard and definitely don't live in it, but I guess for the sake of the story. we'll believe it, there are just a few little details like that, you are asking the reader to believe in Fae and Fairies, you have to get everything else right so the Fairies is the only fantastic in the story.
Other than those little details the story is good and entertaining.
The narrator has a nice tone and speed.

I want to be buried in a rose petal grave. What a wonderful and heart fulfilling story. The narrator is perfect, she tells the story so well, and is so personable. All the magical aspects are introduced with a hint of "how is this even real?!?" which made everything much more believable. I haven't decided if I want to be a fairy or not yet, and I hope to hear how the story ends in another book! Perfect for young adults, and old one's who just haven't fully grown up.

Although it might not be book-love at first, “Rose Petal Graves”, the first book of in the series “The Last Clan” is a promising start to a great fae & nemesis book series. The story starts with Cat’s return from college following the sudden death of her mother and the entire mystery surrounding the event. Unknowing to herself and those around her, this is just the start of an adventure through which Cat learns about her family’s history and the faes that levitate all around her.

From my point of view, the magic system was the most interesting point of the story. I liked a lot the fact that the information about this system was spread all over the story, not just dumped all at once. On the other side, I couldn’t resonate to much with the characters. The interactions between the characters is ambiguous (even for a fictional lot) and the fact that they change their mind (or leave this impression) far too often, is not helping with gaining popularity!

Since I listened to the book in audio format, it’s fair to say that this was a contributing factor to me finishing the story. Stephanie Fritz, the narrator, did a great job of impersonating each character and giving them their own voice and made the story all the more attractive to listen to the very end.

This book wasn’t for me. The narrator was good and everything but I just couldn’t get into the story like I hoped.

I loved a lot about this book. My favorite parts were the sort of rural fantasy aspect and the inclusion of native mythology. There is not enough of that is literature. What I didn’t love was that there was so much going on that it was hard for me to commit to any one thing, especially all of the possible villains. OW always writes complicated plots and builds rich worlds, this one is no different. It is just an extreme example.

I loved the story, style and narrator of this audio version. The setting within a Native American family worked for me, drawing me into the story. The story revolves around Catori, a teenage Student, whose mother has died. She returns home to find family secrets, and mayhem amongst Fae and Hunters. Only 3 stars because while I loved so much about this book, I hated the way the Author dealt so dismissively with Cat’s feelings about the deaths and her continual changes of heart; just felt wrong and didn’t ring true. Why these come about is explained later in the story, but by that point I felt the Author had lost my empathy, and wish to look out for the other books in the series. Which is a pity, this could have been a 5+. Thanks to Abebooks and NetGalley for giving me an audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine and freely given.

I am very much invested in this series to the point I had to buy the rest of them to find out what happens.

It drew me in straight away and kept me gripped, just the correct amount of action.

Very well written with great characters who you can’t help but love even if you aren’t meant to.

Most of this story seemed to be world- and character building, setting up the lore and introducing the characters and their relationships to each other in the first part of what I assume is a series. Certainly there didn't seem to be much of a plot arc, more a series of things that happened which didn't really build up to much. I quite enjoyed listening to the audiobook, but it felt like it ended quite abruptly and with a bit of an anticlimax. I would be interested to see where the story went from here, as I liked the hunter vs fae idea, but I'd hope the next part of the series would have a bit more direction to the plot.

I completely forgot I read this six years ago, so that probably tells you all you need to know. I will say that the imagery is vivid enough that by the end of the first chapter I knew I'd been here before, and I kept going to the end to see if the audiobook could offer anything else.

And I'd say if you're going to read Rose Petal Graves, then go for the audiobook. The performance greatly enhances it.

The audiobook has great production and an excellent narrator, but the story just doesn't do it for me. It jumps around too much and doesn't follow any logic. For all that there are Fae and so a magic system, there has to be some sense to it, some consistency.

I received this Arc through Netgalley and it took me a full two weeks of listening to it on my way to work to draw the connection.....I already read this trilogy.

At first I was astounded how many parallels were between this book and a trilogy I read years ago and finally I decided to investigate and did through my read books. Sure enough, there the trilogy sat!

This trilogy features a young woman who is experiencing tragedy in her life and how she works her way through these trials. Cat is not alone in this quest with many other characters, some magical/mythical, some from her Native American lineage and some normal.

Overall, this trilogy starts very depressing and confusing, prepare yourself. I much preferred reading the books than I did listening to them on audio. Reading through all three books made em appreciate the story and journey more, but it was definitely a struggle early on in the first book.

It's a bit rough but the ideas are there. I listened to the audiobook and had no problem keeping focused on the book. Although, being from Michigan and very familiar with that area it was a bit irritating hearing her pronounce Traverse City incorrectly over and over.

The story is about faeries and hunters and how the two sides intertwine, disagree and cross paths. I enjoyed how the author kept me on my toes about who to trust. I found myself siding with both and kept waiting for the big reveal of who is good and who is evil.

Unfortunately the extreme cliffhanger was a major disappointment. I see the value in leaving the door open for sequels but this book has virtually no ending or closure. I will read/listen to book two because I do believe the author has some good ideas and stories to entertain me but I'm withholding some skepticism

This book was a surprise. I enjoyed listening to it. The book kept my attention and I could not wait for the next part. You will not be disappointed listening to this book.

I did not enjoy this. The romance was too fast, it just seemed haphazardly thrown in. I don’t understand how this book was supposed to be like The Vampire Diaries at all. Also, Cruz acts like he’s a toddler. That’s super off putting and doesn’t convince me he’s as old as he’s said to be.

I only finished because I didn’t want to have the audio not finished on my NetGalley list. It was a struggle. Perhaps some editing or changes could help? I don’t know. I edit fanfic for friends, and this was not… this was bad in comparison to me. I would not recommend this nor would I read the next book.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was full of twists and turns that kept me guessing what was goofing to happen next.

I am left with mixed feelings about this book. I don't know if I really liked it or not.

The things I really liked were Catori and the picture the Author created of her home town.

A small place with good people and a sense of community where everyone can for the most part trust their neighbours.

The Native America folk lore and vocabulary were really awesome. However it did seem to get sidelined for no real reason.

The pacing was good but all in all I am left feeling like I missed large parts of the main story. I might look out for the second one but I won't be sad if I miss it.

I may not have read the Vampire Diaries books, but I watched the show. This book has been compared to Vampire Diaries and it didn't remind me of Vampire Diaries at all.

It was original and the story was addictive.
Fae hunter vs fae.
Our FMC Catori is a Native American descendant of a fantasy tribe Gottwa. Cat goes back to her town to attend her mothers funeral. She suspects her mother's death wasn't a heart attack.
Cat therefore begins to dig into her death. She finds the grave her mother had dug up before her death; it's empty and filled with rose petals.
Things progress from there.
The first part of the book was the real hooker. It gave a creepy, thrilling atmosphere. I honestly liked how this book didn't shy away from things like alcoholism and suicide.
Once you get to the middle the wow factor starts to wear off and you're left questioning something. Catori is stuck in the middle, unsure what side to choose. The hunters side? Or the Fae side?
I enjoyed this book immensely. There were aspects that I didn't like. One of those things is the insta love/love triangle. Or group?
Cat is giving in way too easy on all sides.
Cruz was a rumored murderer that Cat had just met, but they already had a "connection". Insta love at it's finest.
I cared more for Ace and Cat than Cat and Cruz.
I wish we had more of Ace and Lily in this book.
The magic was confusing and didn't seem set in stone.
Catori threw herself into situations, no thought in mind. I loved her fire and the way she questioned her surroundings; I feel like.i don't see that enough in books. But there are things that she goes through where she just acts passive and sad, whereas she should be raging mad.
I wish she grew a spine in the book to put it bluntly.
The writing was great. The story was interesting. I honestly look forward to see what happens next.

I will be continuing on with this series. I found this book entertaining and it kept my attention, I really liked the family history elements. The characters were each captivating in their own ways and I liked the way they each interacted with the MC.

I was interested in the idea of the book but unfortunately the execution was lacking, the relantionships felt underveloped and everything was very rushed.
I enjoyed the narration but the dialogues sounded strange.
