The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club (A Survivors’ Book Club Mystery 1) by Lynn Cahoon

This is the first book in Ms. Cahoon’s newest series A Survivors’ Book Club.

Rarity Cole is a former St. Louis, Mo marketing professional, and breast cancer survivor. She has moved to Sedona, Az to open her new bookstore The Next Chapter, next to her sorority sister Sam.

We are introduced to Rarity, on the afternoon of the inaugural book club meeting. Where we have one attendee, Mrs. Shirley Prescott. She promises to bring a friend along with spreading word of the club before the next meeting. By the next meeting, we have Shirley, Martha, Kim, Holly and Malia. During the meeting, they agree to include non-survivors and pick the group's first read, How to Bake A Perfect Life by Barbara O’Neal.

After Martha doesn’t attend the next club meeting, Rarity calls the police requesting a welfare check. This leads to detective Drew Anderson stopping by the bookstore to speak with her. Upon learning Martha’s beloved dog was left behind she offers to take Killer in.

This begins the book club’s turn from survivors to sleuths, also welcoming Sam as a new member. And it’s off to find a murderer. One who may be closer than they know!!!

Ms. Cahoon is a cancer survivor herself and has previously mentioned that reading was a source of comfort for her during treatment. This gives her an insight into the thoughts and conversations that often take place, for both the newly diagnosed and the survivors! It also offers gentle guidance on the importance of continued care, second opinions, and being on the lookout for charlatans.

This was an excellent start to a new series and I give it 5 stars. *****

Rarity Cole is a breast cancer survivor. After reevaluating her life, she moves to Sedona, AZ, to open a bookstore that specializes in books on healing. In addition, she starts a book club for cancer survivors, but one of the members goes missing. As Rarity and the other ladies are concerned, they decide to try to help uncover the truth.
While this has aspects you'd expect in a cozy, the cancer survivor aspect sets this apart from traditional cozies. Cancer survival and the ongoing impact on a survivor's life are not shied away from here but compassionately portrayed. As the support group characters develop further across the series, I think these relationships will deepen and become the heart of the series.
Cahoon has several successful cozy series to her credit and knows her way around a mystery. The story is well-plotted with some red herrings, twists, danger, and a dramatic ending. We also meet some engaging characters, including a fortune teller, Rarity's best friend Sam, who owns a crystal shop, a handsome hiking tour guide, and an adorable dog. This book is a solid start to a new series. I look forward to the next one. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to review this ARC. I enjoyed it!

What a delightful cosy mystery, the first of a new series. I snuggled under the blanket and read this amazing book in one sitting. It is beautifully written with humour and mystery and totally relatable characters and even has a furbaby. 5/5 stars

There's potential in this series and I appreciated how the author dealt with a serious topic like cancer survivor.
There's empathy but the characters are real people and I liked how they were developed.
The mystery is solid and the setting interesting.
It was an entertaining read and the solid mystery kept me guessing.

The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club is a first in the series that follows cancer survivor Rarity who is the main character and a book store owner. Rarity is a bookstore owner in Sedona, Arizona who is best friends with Sam Aarons who has a crystal shop down the street. Rarity decides to start a book club for survivors and her plan is derailed when one of her members is missing. With the help of the club she tries to find Martha. Oh mayn, I love a good cozy. I absolutely love the setting of tis cozy, the delightful characters and the recipe at the end.

What a great storyline. I love that Rarity started this book club of survivors. What a great way to support each other. Everyone should have a group like this. I had to chuckle how Drew’s folks were wanting to set him up. Guess parents always want what they think is best for their child. I would love to visit these shops in Sedona. I think my favorite would be the bookstore. These characters are wonderful. I can’t wait to see how the Drew, Sam, Rarity, Archer and the rest of the book club folks play out in the next book. Who wouldn’t love Killer? How lucky is he to have 2 great homes? I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.

Rarity temporarily takes in Martha's dog and soon finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. With the help of her best friend Sam and the survivor club members set out to help the cute local police officer solve the crime.

As a fan of Lynn Cahoon from some of her other books, the farm to fork series and the tourist trap series, I was very interested to check out this latest release. I was not disappointed. This is a great start of a new series with interesting characters and a heartwarming theme of triumph after tragedy.

After reading the synopsis for the book, I thought I would have enjoyed the book more than I did.

I liked the idea of the main character starting a support group for cancer survivors. The group was also supposed to be a book club, and turned into a club of amateur sleuths. Though I did find the mystery a bit interesting, I just didn't connect with the characters, the love interests, or the detective that decided he didn't want to question a potential suspect and asked Rarity, the main character to do it for him. Some of the phrases used in the story were a bit off, and some things were over explained.

Toward the end of the book, when the killer was revealed, it played out as a comedy that wasn't funny.

I was sad when I heard her Cat Latimer Mystery series was ending so was happy when I heard about the new cozy mystery series. I found it to be just as enjoyable and entertaining full of loveable characters and a furbaby. Releases June 14th, 2022

What a great start to a new cozy mystery series it was engaging, really well-written, set in the desert town of Sedona Arizona and we can’t forget a furbaby named killer. As most of my friends know I’m a fan girl of Lynn’s books and I can see this series becoming another favourite.

The protagonist Rarity was intelligent, likeable, and the friends she made were people I would like to hang out with especially Sam and Drew. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the story and the instant romance whilst trying to figure out the killer. It doesn’t matter what illness or troubles one has, a strong support system of friendship and trust is always a must, so why not have that with your book club. Personally through online book club I have found some of my strongest support so I could totally see Lynn’s vision in the storyline. The book club does soon become the sleuthing club , which made me chuckle as they did love a mystery…

The mystery was well written and had plenty of suspects who wanted the victim dead. I did suspect the killer early on but there were a few red herrings so I wasnt 100% sure until close to the end when the final piece fell into place.

I can't wait for the next instalment!

I highly recommend this cozy mystery series to all my friends who love a cozy with a strong support system of friends in it.

The premise of this book was intriguing—a book club turned spy club as a result of one of the club member’s disappearance. Unfortunately, The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club by Lynn Cahoon frustrated me more than it kept me in suspense.

Here’s a quick synopsis: After beating breast cancer, Rarity Cole reassesses her life, work, and relationships and decides to make a life change. She moves to Sedona, AZ where she opens a bookstore in hopes of spreading the joy of reading. At the same time, Rarity decides to start a Survivors Club in recognition of how books aided her through her cancer treatments. A cast of town characters soon join the storyline—a policeman, hiking expert, fortune teller, book club members, and Rarity’s close friend, Sam. These characters all play a role in the investigation that envelops the town. Rarity and her fellow book club members shift their club focus from books to sleuthing. At times they help the local law enforcement in solving the crime but at other times, they impede the investigation.

I had many problematic issues with this book. My main complaint is that it did not seem realistic at all. I know this story is chick lit and is supposed to be fun, but reconciling the contrived and stunted dialogue amongst the characters’ interactions made this unauthentic. I also had trouble believing the ages of characters—it seemed like one minute Cahoon wanted the main characters to be young and carefree and the next minute, they were entering middle age. It was confusing and inconsistent. Lastly, I was disappointed with the lack of suspense. I resigned myself that the book club (and all its mentions of other books) was replaced by the spy club, but then the ensuing investigation and murder never became fraught with tension. The fumbling book club members became more of a nuisance in the end.

Love Lynn Cahoon series and this new one is no different; the idea of a survivor’s book club is pretty new for me. I also liked that she mixed it. Sedona’s “woo woo” ideas, but does so in a way that’s respectful. The mystery was fun and I’m really glad they followed clues as opposed to just stumbling over the murderer. Looking forward to book 2!

I flat-out enjoyed The Tuesday Night Survivors Club by Lynn Cahoon. Though the book is best labeled a cozy mystery, it is the surrounding story and characters that hold so much appeal. Rarity Cole, encouraged by her best friend Sam Aarons, has uprooted her life and moved to Sedona, AZ, where she has bought a book store. Rarity, making a fresh start following a battle with breast cancer and a bad breakup with an uncaring and cheating boyfriend, also starts a book club for others who have survived cancer, a way to share experiences and a different perspectives on books or life. The author’s own battle with cancer adds a very real touch and poignancy to the book. Rarity is also lonely as her only friend is Sam and her neighborhood seems to be eerily deserted. As the book progresses, the book club becomes more of a “sleuther’s” club as one member disappears and the small group decide to look into her disappearance, later murder. More importantly, Rarity starts to build a small group of friends and acquaintances, not to mention adopts a dog who helps her deal with her loneliness. I appreciated Rarity’s point of view and her mindset in dealing with the challenges of her new life. By the end of the book, Rarity has budding friendships, has helped solved a murder and ferreted out the mystery behind her deserted neighborhood. This book shows great promise for what will hopefully become a fun series of cozy mysteries. A solid four stars.

I have read novels by Lynn Cahoon before and feel that I am familiar with her style of writing. That said, I think this is another series that I will start to follow, as it hits quite close to home. My mother is a cancer survivor as well as an avid reader. She is who started my love for reading. Rarity, which is a cool name by the way, is exactly where I would hope my mother is emotionally speaking. At first I was worried because of how stringent the rules were that she was planning on imposing towards the book club. However, as the story progressed even she began to realize that it was counter-productive, if not a bit rude, to reject people outright. I enjoyed her character development. I am worried again though as a couple of sentences had me wondering if Rarity would try to revert back to these thoughts, or would continue to progress.

The best parts were her interactions with Sam. It is true that you learn who your friends, and family, are when crisis like this happens. I was glad to see that Rarity recognized those things in Sam. Sam didn’t try to push her thoughts on Rarity, but she also didn’t stop herself from saying them. Rarity picked up a stone and Sam told her to keep it as it clearly spoke to her. But there was no elaborate conversations, no “try this” or “try that”. They did activities together and spoke of their thoughts and feelings, and encouraged, supported, and healed one another.

Killer was an adorable addition. While there is romance, it doesn’t overwhelm the story. But the addition of Killer was perfect. I am a firm believer that a dog or a cat can assist the healing process. They don’t talk back to tell you their opinions, but they do provide a comfort that no human being can give.

Some cozy mysteries have a tendency to have the amateur hated by the professional. I do not see that happening in this case. Lynn Cahoon doesn’t seem to believe in this concept, and for that I am eternally grateful.

I dropped the rating down one because the ending seemed a little off. Without giving spoilers, it seemed like the killer knew what Rarity was doing without the reader seeing how she could have known. Unless a certain someone told them, in which case, maybe that should be mentioned. I’m not sure.

Overall I rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars.

I love books, so I was excited to read one that featured a bookstore, and the latest release from Cahoon didn't disappoint! It's a quick, enjoyable cozy mystery, and I enjoyed sleuthing things out with the ladies. And the cast is well-developed and relatable.

First in a new series. I enjoy Ms. Cahoon’s writing and when offered the opportunity to read this via Netgalley, I could not pass it up.

The setting is wonderful. I have been to Sedona many times and was glad to be reminded of its beauty, tourist town feel, and there is more to the town than the tourist section.

Rarity Coleman is new to Sedona and has opened a bookstore. She begins a cancer survivor bookclub. She meets new people through her best friend and the book club.

I liked the interaction of the characters as they work through the clues to find a killer.
I cannot wait for the next edition but will be forced to as it is not published, yet.

The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club is an excellent first-in-series cozy mystery with a twist. Rarity Jones, recent breast cancer survivor and new bookstore owner, establishes a special book club for those who understand that being a survivor changes one. As the club grows it, also shifts when one of their own disappears. As we have seen in other series, Lynn Cahoon creates highly relatable characters and connections that keep readers coming back as much as her well written mysteries. I am excited to get to know this new set of friends and already look forward to the next book in the series.

As a longtime fan of Lynn Cahoon's writing, I requested an ARC of The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club from Kensington via NetGalley and was really excited to have my request accepted. I request books that I expect to love and to want to shout about and this one definitely fits the bill.

As a cancer survivor myself, I cannot express the GRATITUDE for having this representation in a cozy mystery series.

Rarity Cole is a breast cancer survivor and she has just opened a bookstore, The Next Chapter, in d Sedona, Arizona. Her best friend, Sam , is the owner just next door of the crystal shop.

The first night of the book club, there was only one member, Shirly, who is also a breast cancer survivor. After another week there are more attendees. Only one person attends Rarity’s first book club meeting on Tuesday night—Shirley—another breast cancer survivor. The next week, more survivors join. One of the members go missing and an investigation ensues.

The characters are well developed, complex and extremely relatable.
The mystery is perfect paced dropping clues and red herrings along the way.

I did not guess who had done it until the final reveal. I enjoy the possible romance that will likely develop in future books.
