I actually enjoyed this read more than I thought I would. I was a well written and liked the story too. A quick and easy mystery read.

I loved the concept of this book, especially as a writer myself, I could relate to so much that Evie internalized as she struggles to write her next novel.

The idea that characters can come to life, show up on our doorstep, and change our lives is one that is an original idea. There were times where I wasn't sure where the story was going, and it was almost like reading 2-3 books in one. Some parts I predicted, but overall the entire journey through the mind of a crime writer and her characters was great.

Remind me never to become a hermit when I'm writing my own stories.

A quirky thriller that was definitely a unique concept! In the book, Evie Howland is a best selling author of a famous crime series. Through a series of events, Evie finds that somehow, her characters have come to life and started to get involved with her plot lines- somehow becoming part of her real life. She thought she had the perfect life with her bestselling series, handsome fiancée, and wonderful characters to keep her company, but she Was having a hard time getting the next book written. She finds her own life turned upside down while ending up discovering and having to solve her own mystery! This book was action packed and played like a movie in my head. The characters were enjoyable and the dialogue was funny. My only critique is that the mystery unfolded with new pieces of information being thrown into the storyline constantly. There is no way to guess or anticipate what would or should happen next since the story breaks with reality and the plot line is fluid and invented along the way. I think this book would make a really fun action movie and should likely be classified as an action/thriller rather than a mystery novel. Overall an enjoyable read, but I got slightly tired of some of the action-packed scenes dragging on.

Crime Writer was a brilliant read! It’s original, fresh and fast-paced. The writing style is refined, vivid and detailed, I was quite impressed with all the technical lingo as well, you could tell the author did her research and it made the tale very credible without turning it into a catalogue of boring jargon, which is usually easier said than done. As for the big villain, the Blade gave me a lot of “Red John” vibes from the Mentalist, maybe because he’s quite the ruthless character. Luckily, the author manages to keep the plot not too overwhelming for those, like me, who prefer cozy mysteries to gory thrillers.

Overall, I thought the plot was a great mixture of genres (thriller, romcom, action adventure) with many twists and turns to keep you riveted til the very end.

The storyline was extremely action-oriented and I could very easily picture it as a movie. Highly recommended!

This book was definitely an original concept for me! I really enjoyed that aspect of this story and would definitely read others like it as well! I had some good moments where I couldn't help but to laugh out loud! Witty books tend to have that effect on me. I'm a big fan of all three genres in here (romance, crime, and comedy)! It was definitely a lighthearted read, so don't go into this one expecting some big bad thriller book, because this will not hit that mark for you, my friends. The book was cute and I would recommend it if someone were to ask me about it!

I think the general idea of the book was original, or at least it's my first time reading a story like this. I loved that the book was witty, I chuckled a few times. I think it's a great mix of crime, comedy and romance. I definitely recommend it for people who are looking for something light hearted. I think the book might have had more attention with a better cover + marketing. Unfourtunately those things matter a lot.

Slow beginning to a fun book. Loved trying to solve the case and loved the humor and romance. Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

With narrator/author Evie Howland in charge, you know you're going to have a great story. After all, she has written 15 best selling books in a crime series. BUT her life is going great with her fiance, and her writing is blocked, and the 16th novel is due. Or past due.
Evie is thrown into a meta mystery, and she has to find a way to write her way out of the situation in real life while also addressing the mystery and struggle between her main characters NYPD Detectives Carolyn Harding and Jake Ryan.
A slow starting novel, the action increases its pace and the momentum will get you--if you aren't careful!

The cover for this book first caught my attention. But I have to admit I was a bit confused at the beginning of this story and I was having a hard time getting into it. I even have to shamefully admit that I also laid it down, a few times until I finally went back to it and got to the point that it pulled me in. Of course Mrs. Andrews finally gave some eye opening revelations that pulled me in even further.
It seemed to me that Evie might just be more in love with her fiance's mother and father than she was with him (Daniel) It was surprising when Carolyn accused her of what I had been thinking.
I had no idea how things could ever work out well. Especially since the darker characters in the story brought a lot of fear and trouble into a lot of dangerous actions. Edge of your seat stuff. In the end I found this story, quirky, a bit odd, very creative, fascinating, and with a romance I was hoping for. I ended up loving it!

" I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book through Netgalley. And these are my honest opinions about it.”

Evie is an author of a popular crime series. She’s having terrible writers block and her characters come to life to help her. Literally! Crime Writer was not at all what I expected. What a pleasant surprise! Action ✔️ Humor ✔️ Romance ✔️ It’s got everything I look for in a book and more. Enjoyable ride from start to finish!

This was such a fun and unique mystery novel. We find our main character, Evie Howland, stuck at Chapter Three of her 16th mystery novel. We follow along, following both the real world and the fictional world of Evie’s book until the two ultimately collide. Suddenly, Evie finds her fictional characters in the real world and they’re causing real havoc.

There’s good character development and witty dialogue. This was a fast paced mystery with action, suspense, and romance. I’d never heard of Dime Shepard before reading this book, but I will definitely look for her other titles!

What a unique and original take on a crime novel. I was pulled in from the start. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development and the interesting way in which the characters are presented. Super engaging and fun.

Really enjoyed this read! It has a very interesting concept with an enjoyable execution. Evie is a fiction crime writer whose characters are popping up in the real world. While she likes the sudden appearance of her two favorite detectives, it also means that the immensely dangerous serial killer is loose in the real world. I enjoyed the characters and the flow of the book.

This is a mystery/thriller novel, in which we follow a crime writer. Unlike many books that follow authors I felt like this one is a breath of fresh air, and very captivating, however I'd preferred if some scenes didn't feel like they happened out of the blue, specially in action moments.
I did enjoy the way this book was written and the pace it had. So, I truly recommend it for any fans of thriller/mystery genre

Evie Howland is an author of a crime series. Her 15 books series were successful, but she experienced a writer's block while writing her 16th book. The block changed everything - her characters started to become real, people can see them and talk to them.

This is the first book of Dime Sheppard that I've read and I really like it. The realisation that her stories were happening in real life was very subtle. I did find myself getting lost between the 'real' and 'story' world, but it wasn't confusing and I realised which dimension it was within a few sentences. I really like how this book brings you from one dimension to the next and merges the two together - it truly lets you escape reality.

Crime Writer is a mystery novel, but its not like any mystery novel I've read before.

Evie Howland is an author who has a successful crime series. While she is working on book 16 in the series, she gets hit with a massive case of writers block.

During her self imposed isolation while she works, her main characters show up in real life. With the good guys come the bad guy characters from her novels.

It sounds odd but trust me, it works and it work well.

I look forward to reading more books from this author.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dime Sheppard for the chance to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

BOOK REVIEW

⭐️⭐️

Crime Writer by Dime Sheppard

“Evie Howland has problems.
Guns. Bombs. Murderers.
And that's just on the page...
In real life she's meant to be planning a wedding to adorable billionaire Daniel Bradley, but Evie is seriously snarled in the sixteenth book of her successful crime series. In fact, her protagonists are becoming almost impossible to wrangle: NYPD detective Carolyn Harding is volatile after a messy divorce, and Detective Jay Ryan has that heated look in his blue eyes again. They're both sick of being written. And frankly they're getting a little...physical. Evie is beginning to wonder if she's ever going to finish Book Sixteen and get them back into fiction where they belong.
But when a disturbingly familiar homicide surfaces in the city papers, it seems as if other, darker characters might have crossed the fiction-frontier too. In which case, Evie is in a lot of real-life trouble.
If she's going to survive it, Evie must face her own worst fears, and learn that real love can be the best way of writing her own story.
But can she change the ending?” (Book overview taken from Amazon.com)

Let me start by saying that I was really excited to read this book because I haven’t read a novel where the main character was an author. I was even more interested when I discovered that Evie’s characters came to life to help her solve a crime. As excited as I was for the ideas this book was created on I was disappointed with writing of the book and how it all came together.

There were a few times while reading the book where an action occurred out of nowhere. There was no description leading up to it, it just randomly happened out of the blue. I found myself having to reread the page multiple times because it didn’t make sense to me what was happening. Although I understand the point was to make those scenes pop out to the reader as quickly as they happened to Evie in the story there has to be some kind of writing that leads up to it.

Overall the creativity in this book is incredible, however the poor writing didn’t allow that creativity to be properly executed.

“Characters are people,'and the only way to fig-
ure out who they are and how they behave is to spend time with them. Otherwise they do things that surprise the pants off you.' And potentially derail the story in a big way. But they're not there,' he argued. 'They don't exist.' They do exist,' I argued back. 'Just not here, exactly.
Like another dimension?' He was smiling by then, humoring me. 'No,' I smiled back. 'But they exist to me, and when people read my books they exist to them, too. Sort of. They have existence, just maybe not substance.Well. It's hard to explain at the best”

I enjoyed the concept of the novel but sometimes I got lost in “the other dimension” on what was her real world and fictional world as they didn’t blend seamlessly. However, the ending was able to explain everything. Special thanks to NetGalley and publisher for a copy of the E-book in exchange my pure honesty.
