I have been watching John Kanell's youtube channel for a long time and have done many of his recipes. When I saw that this book was coming out I was really excited, and even though I was a little disappointed that it wasn't all just desserts I can appreciate the actual food recipes that it contains.

I liked the seasonal layout to this cookbook and appreciated all of the tips and substitutions offered with the cookbook. The recipes all seemed elegant enough to impress but also easy enough to make. The book also has some great photos.

I am a longtime fan and follower of John Kanell’s Instagram account and Preppy Kitchen is a beautiful cookbook showcasing seasonal recipes. It’s cooking for every night and for special occasions; he takes foods and flavors you already know and love and elevates them. The photography is beautiful, too. Great cookbook!

Thank you to Simon Element and NatGalley for this ARC.

Gorgeous cookbook with lovely photos of finished recipes as well as the countryside where the author lives with his spouse and children. As Tina Fey once said “I want to go to there”. Loved reading their story of transitioning from the city to the country and the genesis of his life as a home cook. The recipes look simple but with a twist - pork tenderloin with Chinese spice as an ingredient. Neat! So grateful to Simon Element for the advanced copy. I’m grateful.

Preppy Kitchen is a fantastic instagram account that constantly gives me inspiration, makes me hungry, and teaches me something. Preppy Kitchen the book provides the reader with the same but on a more intimate level. John Kanell tells the story of his family and home through the lens of food. John and his family have just made a big move from the West coast to the East coast and his new environment is causing inspiration that bleeds from these pages.

The photography is GORGEOUS - it made me want to buy a farm in Connecticut ASAP. The book is broken out by seasons and further differentiated by recipes and special projects in each section. As a home cook/baker that loves a special project, I really appreciated this.

The food and recipes give restaurant quality - it is an impressive approach to home cooking that still feels accessible and attainable for cooks of all levels. I can't wait to make Steamed Mahi-Mahi with Macadamia Nuts and Spring Herbs, Passion Fruit Mille-Feuille, and Tipsy Caramelized Banana Pudding.

Thank you to Netgalley and Simon Element for the ARC. Preppy Kitchen is out 10/4/22!

While I have not seen this bloggers online pages and videos, the description of this cook book seemed interesting and something that I would enjoy. The book is well presented and the photography is top notch. I have enjoyed reading it, but did not feel a draw to make many of the recipes. I am thankful to be offered the chance to read it, but will not be adding to my collection. Thank you.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This is a beautiful cookbook with lots of great recipes. I can't wait to try some of them.

Beautiful photographs, very well organized cookbook. However, I don’t think I would make any of this on my own, save the chickpea salad sandwich. All a bit on the high end of cooking and presentation.

Thank you for the ARC to review.

I want to be besties with this author and his husband. They are just the cutest. After reading this book you will totally agree with me.

The recipes are wonderful. The pictures so so beautiful. Honestly the whole book is life goals. And this book makes it attainable. Well mostly. Lol

Confession: I am probably not the right audience for this read. I was not familiar with Kanell prior to requesting the book, and a cursory Google search or review of his online platform probably would have clued me in. :)

I'm also a little disappointed in that the NetGalley eARC only provided half the book to read--Spring and Summer--and left out my two favorite seasons, for cooking and in general! So between the two, I kynda started off on the wrong foot.

But, for what _was_ in the eARC, it was beautifully presented, photographed, and explained. There were a number of delicious-looking recipes that I'd gladly consider trying.

While "simple" may be a bit of a stretch in some regards, it also encourages and reminds me I don't have to look far for beauty, taste, and joy--I can find it as close as my own kitchen.

I received a (partial) eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Preppy Kitchen by John Kanell with Rachel Holtzman is a truly lovely cookbook as both the writing and photos create a book you'd love to cozy up with. I can their cookbook gracing a living room table as the photos are absolutely gorgeous. Some of the recipes I found in their cookbook include:

Shirred Eggs with Leeks, Spring Herbs and Gruyere
Crispy Flatbread with Spring Herbs, Radishes, and Whipped Feta
Shortcakes with Strawberry and Pink Peppercorn Ice Cream
Chicken Legs with Smoky Peach Barbecue Sauce
Key Lime Coconut Cream Pie

Recommend.

Review written after reading a sample egalley from the publisher.

Preppy Kitchen is a cookbook that covers recipes throughout all seasons and includes a dreamy look at living countryside while making delicious food, taking care of animals and enjoying family time.

The cover photography and typography is great and matches what we're about to dive into. It feels like the classic cookbook covers of celebrities, but also has a comfortable home feel.

Just as the cover, the photography spread out throughout the book is well done, edited in a color palette that is comforting, and even slightly romantic. The author's introduction and backstory was well written and made me want to look through the book more. Hook, line and sinker.

Conveniently the recipes are spread apart per season, and with recipes like Strawberry Lavender Jam, Chocolate Carrot Cake (why have I never thought about combining those two together?), and even Pickling, there's a recipe for everyone. They're also explained in an easy way and with ingredients that aren't difficult to find.

5 Stars. Would recommend. This is a copy that I would put within my home cookbook library. I'm excited to dive in and create some of the recipes for Summer this, well, summer!

Now, I'm going to live in my kitchen and try to make those Blackberry Rosemary Hand Pies.

Thanks to the publisher, Simon Element, the author and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC copy to read and review. Review will also be posted to my blog (www.kagoodsell.com/book-reviews), GoodReads, TikTok (@unearthingeco), as well as NetGalley reviews.

The recipes look nice and the photos are great but I wouldn't make most of these recipes at home. I would indeed try them at a bakery or restaurant though. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

I think I was set up for failure here. I have not followed the blogger and with a title containing the word Simple This was not what happened. this book is about how to do fine dining at home so it is not your book for the everyday home chef.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an early "sample" copy of this book. All of the opinions expressed are my own. John Kanell is one of my favorite food bloggers and YouTubers. I love watching his videos and his recipes have never disappointed me. So, I was quite excited to get an early copy of his new cookbook coming out in October (2022). I love how this book is separated into 4 sections, one for each season. While my favorite seasons to cook and bake are the Fall and Winter, I, unfortunately, didn't get an opportunity to review these sections as the sample copy I received only covered the Spring and Summer seasons. I am really curious as to what the rest of the book has to offer so I will definitely be getting a copy of this book when it releases. There is a lot to love about this book. I enjoyed the narrative at the beginning about John and his life. Also, whoever did the photography for this book deserves a raise, because the pictures are absolutely stunning. I think it is important to note that I am a baker more than I am a chef. I enjoy, sweets much more than savory. And while this book does have a selection of sweets, it seems to focus more on the savory. And to that end, it is more of a gourmet menu, like something you would expect at high tea, or at a Sunday brunch. For example a few of the recipes include "creamy spring vegetable linguini with goat cheese and prosciutto", "mustard-roasted salmon nicoise salad", "Beet and grapefruit salad", and "chipotle and honey-glazed shrimp with charred oranges". The types of desserts also seem a little more involved like a "cherry and apricot clafoutis", and "pavlova with orange curd, strawberries and whipped cream". I was, however, really happy to find a simple "classic cream scone" recipe in the portion that I reviewed, which I made and loved. While a lot of these recipes sound and look delicious, the chance of me either having the ingredients on hand, or having the time to make them, is probably close to zero. But that is just me and my lifestyle. Despite that, I wouldn't mind owning this recipe book simply for the photos and stories. And, I do think the book will appeal to a lot of people, especially those who entertain often, and who enjoy the more gourmet lifestyle. I would certainly recommend this book to those who like to cook and entertain. I would caution, however, that the recipes in this book seem to have a different vibe than the Preppy Kitchen blog. Not that it is a bad thing, just different.

John Kannel is one of my favorite YouTube cooking shows. I was delighted to hear he was writing a cook book. He always makes baking look so easy and effortless with his videos. I was excited to see his new cookbook, #ThePreppyChef available to review on #NetGalley.

This cook book will take you through each season. The recipes and the photography are arts of work. These are fancier recipes then I was expecting. I wanted to see more desserts and what I have grown to love with his YouTube page. I would recommend this cook book to anyone who is looking for a book catered towards parties/finer dining.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Element for the opportunity to review this ARC. This cookbook is set to hit the shelves on October 4, 2022.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Preppy Kitchen.

I'm not familiar with the blogger, but I was intrigued by the description of the cookbook and I enjoyed reading about the author's origins; how he and his husband went from city dwellers to homeowners in the country with two sons.

I loved the description of their home, their farms, the animals and natural beauty surrounding them, and how he incorporates the fresh produce and fruit (depending on the season) into his recipes.

The recipes are strategically arranged by season and feature many light, vegetable and fruit friendly recipes and meals, including desserts, I was pleased to see.

Some of the recipes are labor intensive but anything worth doing well takes the time and ingredients to make.

I'm not a fan of spending a lot of time cooking, when I could be eating instead, but I'm not a chef, I'm a eater.

The photos came through well on the Kindle though not all of the recipes featured photos, which I hope will be corrected in the final version of the book.

I appreciated the quick tips and tricks and the Special Projects section, which added an unique touch to Preppy Kitchen.

Love the cover and love the pictures! They really make you want to cook all the recipes. I also love how it was divided by seasons but some of the recipes take too many ingredients for my liking. I'm looking for quick, easy, and tasty dishes. You will find them here but may take longer to prepare. Overall, it's a good book to have on the shelves.
