This picture book is about an owl and a mouse operating what seems to be a food truck at night and feeding all animals.
It left me pretty much underwhelmed, the illustrations were beautiful but the overall tone was a bit dark and melancholy for me.

A sepia-toned, gorgeously illustrated picture book, Night Lunch tells the dream-like story of animals gathering for a midnight meal at Night Owl’s lunch wagon. Shadowy figures on deserted streets gather at the cart to wait for Owl’s delicious treats. Fox, Badger and Possum dine while Mouse cleans up. As the early dawn light spills into the city streets, Night Owl and his cart leave to return again in the dark. This picture book, written by Eric Fan and illustrated by Dena Seiferling, is absolutely beautiful. The illustrations are haunting and evocative and the words tell a simple, well explained story. I loved it. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, Eric Fan and Dena Seiferling for this ARC.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was pleasant tly surprised at this book. Thr illustrations are beautiful and the story is simple and nice. It follows Owl making night lunch for various animals and sharing with a mouse, which would be its natural food source. I wish the words would have rhymed or had a more obvious rhythm. The concept of sharing and gratitude is throughout the book.

Like we have come to expect NIGHT LUNCH is a beautifully illustrated picture book by Terry Fan. At around midnight the horse drawn night lunch cart makes an appearance. All the “night owls” come out to feast. The fox wants a mince pie and the badger wants a sandwich. A little mouse is waiting in the shadows hoping for crumbs.
I loved the imaginative story and the gorgeous illustrations. I am looking forward to seeing a copy of the finished book.
Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced digital edition of this book.
