It took me a little bit to get into it, but it was a good book. I loved the characters and their story. X

I really enjoyed this novella.

It started as an enemies to lovers trope but really turned into a second chance romance. Kimberleigh is a hot new celebrity actress and Spencer is tabloid reporter. Their relationship starts out rocky, but one situation changed the course of their relationship. I really liked the anxiety rep in this book and I’m a sucker for celebrity romances. They only thing I wanted was for it to be longer and their story to be a bit more developed. This was quick fun read.

4/5 ⭐️

thank you netgalley and haver street press for this arc!! this book was released on april 19th, 2022.

this was a very interesting one-sitting novella. although i expected a bit more of the enemies to lovers trope, i really loved that this quickly became a second chance lovers story. i loved how susannah really portrayed the couple as genuine and realistic. both kimberleigh and spencer have baggage and secrets, but they are both so dedicated to making their relationship work despite the struggles in the entertainment business. i also loved the representation of mental health in this novella. i didn’t totally love the insta-love start to spencer and kimberleigh’s relationship, but the rest of the story’s progression was so good that i felt a 4 star rating really encapsulated my overall feelings for this book. in conclusion, this was a very short, but sweet read with just the right amount of spice and plot to keep me hooked!

“you showed me what i was missing and taught me that love was worth taking risks.”

Kimberleigh is a hot young movie star making her way through the world. The last person she wants to be part of her world is Hollywood reporter Spence Delvin. After a bad interview, she blacklisted him from her circle and avoid him as much as possible in public. But when their world collide Kimberleigh has to decide what’s right for her, or her career.

I found the story to be too short. There wasn’t enough story between Kimberleigh and Spencer for me to believe the enemies to lovers trope. One mention of the bad interview in chapter one, and by the end of chapter one we see him being not a bad guy and their relationship already blossoming.

When I forget about the enemies to lovers trope and go on the book without that, I am pleased. A cute and real love story I’m sure a lot of people can relate to. Putting up walls and deciding who to let in. Regret when you let the wrong people in, it’s real and that’s what I liked.

Spencer was a gosh darn angel of a human being. If only men like that existed…

Star Bright would be the perfect book to bring with you to the pool or beach. It is a quick read, with two adorable characters and a guaranteed happy ever after. Spencer and Kimberleigh are both famous Hollywood personalities that have been at odds at time but find common ground together. They have some tragic backstories but they are not really delved too deep into so they dont end up being triggering. I like the characters and the quick easy breezy read.

4/5 - #1 of Starstuck Series

In a fast-paced enemies-to-lovers, you get a Hollywood starlit that has had past issues with a specific reporter. I enjoyed Spencer’s character, and while I wasn’t the biggest fan of Kimberleigh, I totally understood her character and the way the author wanted her to be very reserved. However, again, it’s a fast paced book, so the stark difference in her professional and personal personalities just gave me whiplash and was a bit confusing at times. I just wanted more cuteness, especially how spicy Spencer was in a scene or two.

I’ll still go read the rest of the series because I enjoyed the premise of this, and I think each book afterword’s is longer than this first book, so I might vibe with them better.

Brief Plot: A year ago, during a press interview, Kimberleigh was interviewed by Spencer, and it didn’t go well. Now, their paths cross, and she calls him out for the inappropriate interviewing tack ticks he pulled. Later in the night, she has a panic attack, and thankfully Spencer is there to help. They spend time together and both recognize the other isn’t how they seem. But is that enough to let their barriers down, especially when Spencer can take any information about Kimberleigh and use it for his professional benefit.

Such a cute story! Read it in one sitting, honestly. Felt a bit rushed, some parts were missing! But, overall I liked it. I would probably give it a shot again and reread it later.

such a quick read! I love enemies to lovers and anything that revolves around celebrities! i enjoyed the plot and the romance despite a miscommunication trope. Check this one out!

This was a really cute, enemies to lovers novella that I managed to read in one day. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters and I found that the reason they were enemies in the first place was actually valid rather than a silly misunderstanding that a lot of books with this trope seem to have. I thought that the pacing was pretty good for such a quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story.

4/5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this copy to review

Star Bright is a quick and easy novella, perfect for a beach day! It's a fast-paced story and you jump right into the lives of Kimberleigh, an actress, and Spencer, a gossip reporter. An enemies-to-lovers story that sucks you right in! (Be warned though: there is the miscommunication trope which I personally am not a big fan of. But I still really enjoyed the story!)

Susannah Nix isn't afraid to address mental health issues in this story with Kimberleigh and her panic attacks and I found that to be a breath of fresh air. I wish we got to know the characters a little more in depth but I always feel this way with novellas. Star Bright is my first book by Susannah Nix and I can't wait to get my hands on more of her stories!

Thank you NetGalley and Haver Street Press for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Whoa! What a ride. It was very fast-paced. The writing style kept me hooked and I didn't find myself losing any interest. I enjoyed getting to know each of the characters and how real the story felt. The author did a great job painting the setting, so it was easy for me to visualize the scene played out before me. I recommend giving this one a chance!

This was pretty cute but I ran into the problem that I have with almost all novellas, there isn’t enough time/info for me to know or care much about the characters. I can see this is the first book in the series but not the first one written so maybe this is meant to be read in a different order? I can tell the authors writing is good and I am interested in checking out the full length books in this series.

If you hate miscommunication tropes and celebrity type romance, then this book isn't for you. But if you do love enemies to lovers then I would recommend this as a try. This is my first book by her but I did like it a bit but I felt like there was something missing and the miscommunication trope was a bit too much for me and they hated each other but that part was over so quickly??

What if your worst imagined enemy is the one who rescue you and the one that understands you like no other? An a-list Hollywood actress –Kimberleigh– stumbled upon a gossip reporter –Spencer– she's been guarding herself from in an unexpected event. After clearing their false impressions of each other, it turns out that they connected and starts to catch feeling!

This is a story of an enemies to (instant) lovers and slightly second chance trope sets in a glamourous Hollywood scenes.

I really like the way they helped each other to overcome the mental health issues they've been dealing with, and connected right out of it. Unlike other enemies to lovers books I've read before, the main characters turned into a couple rather quickly and it's refreshing to me. I like how it is written in Dual POV, it gives more insight to each characters about their feelings towards each other, how they carefully tried to not rushing the relationship, and how they're yearning for each other when they're apart (it was so cute!)--and all of that happened while they hide their relationship from anyone! I really LOVE how the author express their feelings in their own POV (those words melts my heart) Of course, the main conflict was related to their work differences, tackling the professionalism and trust issues that leads to misunderstanding... and the way they resolves it—reminds me of my own missed second chance haha. Nevertheless, I like how both characters trying to work it out (and the epilog was very very cute!)

Overall, it's a quick and lighthearted read, it makes me giddy. I'm looking forward to read the entire Startruck series!

This was the first book I’ve read by Susannah Nix and I really hope I enjoy her others more than I enjoyed this one. I was really excited for the premise - enemies to lovers between an actress and Hollywood interviewer - but unfortunately it had a trope I really hate: miscommunication. Also the characters got over their “hate” of each other so quickly, which I guess was necessary for the plot as this was under 200 pages.
Ultimately, this one was not for me but I’m still planning on trying another one of her books at a later date.

3.75⭐

First of all, many, many thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. I would not have discovered this story without the platform. When I came across this cover and read the synopsis, I saw tons of potential. I'm dead serious about it. In fact, the first disappointment was seeing that it was so short, barely 180 pages. I honestly think it could have gotten a lot more out of it because of the novelty in the actress and reporter dynamic, which you don't often see many stories of. I'm not saying that I was disappointed and disliked the story, but I do feel like I got a little too little out of it. I firmly believe that the author failed to take advantage of the diamond in the rough she had in her hands.

I have mixed feelings about this story. It starts quite slow in my opinion; an enemies to lovers quite unjustified because the reason that the protagonist gives you is nothing more than a misunderstanding between celebrities and journalists, agents and all that little world in which they communicate through news bombs and publicity agents in between that complicate things even more.

We have the main character, Kimberleigh Cress, who is one of Hollywood's biggest stars with secrets behind her back, such as her real age and her past, aside from her fake affairs. For most of the book I was driven out of my mind by the way she acted and think, I can't hide it. I want to emphasize that the problem between Spencer and her was more on her part than his.

On the other side of the coin is Spencer, who I adored with my soul despite how little (almost nothing) we got to know about him throughout the story. I almost came to hate him at first for being in Kimberleigh's point of view, but when the conversation came up and they talked about what really happened, I was unhinged as I realized that he hadn't been at fault and was just doing his job as agreed upon.

The few secondary characters that there are I liked, we don't know more than their names and a glimpse of their physical appearance. The interactions with the main characters have been quite enlightening to the plot at certain times and have served to calm me down. Especially when Luna, Kimberleigh's best friend, stood up for Spencer.

Without further ado, a story that could have been one of my favorites if the author had known how to seize the idea and develop it as more than just misunderstandings between the main characters. I missed a lot of moments between Spencer and Kimberleigh, more than just them working on their stuff and more on common moments like parties and red carpets. There is one scene, the one on the cover, that is hands down my favorite because of the interaction between them.

Enemies to lovers? Yes, please!

This is a really cute, sweet, cinnamon roll-y prequel novella to the Starstruck series. This story is short, fast paced, super engaging and steamy! It was just the right read to sink into late at night.

This was a short novella and it was super easy to read. I enjoyed the writing, the glitz and glamour reminded me slightly of Evelyn Hugo and I enjoyed that part of it. There was something missing for me personally, it didn’t hit quite on the mark for what I look for from a romance book.

3.5 stars - "I liked it, but.. ' Star Bright was a short story prequel set in the world of Falling Star. The enemies to lovers romance is a bit compressed because of the length, so the pair fall hard and fast - it was a bit hard to believe since the leading lady is so controlled. Still the ending was sweet and it had me looking to read the first book in the series, Falling Star, only to discover that I'd already read it (and like the enemies to lovers romance).

This was a sweet rom com novella. It is technically enemies to lovers, but the enemies part is really quick. It’s kind of insta love once the main characters clear the air about why they were enemies in the first place.

I love the Hollywood aspects of the story. I was surprised by the amount of depth that was portrayed from the characters in such a short amount of words. It was a good amount of real life issues + romance.

I will read the others in the series!
