I really enjoyed this book and will continue to be a valuable resource for me to reference. The author breaks down everything by room and shares what the biggest problems are, why, and how to resolve them.

There is an awesome glossary in the back and tons of references.

I’m super inspired to make more conscious choices for myself and my family (even if I was already doing pretty well!) because it all does add up little by little.

The great thing about this book is that even though it’s overwhelming, you don’t have to do everything at once, or at all. You can pick and choose what you think is realistic for you and try and try not to get bogged down by all of the toxic items she describes.

Daniella Chase walks with you room-by-room through your living space (indoors and outdoors), giving clear, actionable, and well-researched guidance about making every space as healthful and non-toxic as possible.

She provides recipes for cleansing agents using ingredients that are safe and easy to source. She doesn’t advocate dumping plastic brushes, etc right away, replacing these things with non-toxic options only when the plastic ones wear out, which I appreciated. Of course, highly toxic items need to be properly disposed of ASAP.

I appreciated this book a great deal and plan on purchasing my own copy when it is released (this review is a pre-publication from NetGalley), and I will go room-by-room making needed changes.

This book starts with basics then gives you room by room tips. It further identifies the Toxic 10 list in each area. I found this format helpful and simple to use. It also has lots of practical easy solutions. Easy advice like use wooden cutting boards instead of plastic ones. I picked up and implemented dozens of easy detox solutions! Specific areas covered are: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, laundry room, kids rooms, home office, garage & basement and yard & garden. This book is a must read for anyone concerned with their health or just wanting to lessen the toxins in their environment. I can’t stress enough how important this book is.

Get ready to have your skin crawl while at the same getting motivated to make one of the best decisions of your life. Detoxing your home is a wonderful step to taking control of your health. There are a lot of books out there on this topic but many of them are overwhelming and struggle with keeping their layouts from getting cluttered and confusing. This book in comparison thoroughly hits all the right points without giving you a headache our a financial migraine. She breaks down the daily toxins we are exposed to and where the culprits hide in everyday objects and products. There are lots of excellent, easy recipes to replace most household chemicals and, from personal testimony, they work! Everything is methodically organized by room or house fixture as well so you can just start with one and do what you can before moving on to the next. She also covers personal care and body products! I will be adding this to my gift list for friends and family who want to clean up their home but don’t know where to start.
P.S. check out “teflon flu”…yikes!

Thank you, NetGalley!

Thanks so much for the opportunity to read this book and review it.
I think this book has wonderful information that is going to be really helpful in the right person’s hands. In the wrong hands, I think this could cause certain people to have a mental breakdown. It’s impossible to wrap my brain around the fact that almost everything in our modern environment is in fact toxic to our health. So much needs to be done to change the way we live, the products we use, the food we eat. It’s no wonder so many have cancer when so many of the things we live with and use are horribly toxic to us.

As a long-time believer in a low-toxin household, this was not anything that I hadn't read before. If you are new to the concept of using toxin-free products for your home, then this will be a great resource, but if you've been doing that for a while, there won't be anything new.

Something which we aren't often taught at school is that our homes are full of more toxins than the outside world! So many products which we use everyday are having an impact on our health, and this does not need to be the case as there are many safer alternatives out there.

In this practical and easy to understand guide toxicologist, Daniella Chace, teaches us how to identify toxins, gives us steps on how to remove them, and suggests many alternatives.

The book is split by room and for each room the author gives us a 'Toxic Ten' (the 10 most toxic things which are commonly found in the identified room), and gives us a step by step cleaning guide to remove toxins from that particular room. The book is concise, accessible and gives clear actions for everyone, no matter what your prior knowledge is of this subject.

I completely underestimated what I was going to get out of this book. If I am completely honest the two things which initially drew me to this book was one was that I share the same name with the author, and the other being that it is going to be published on my birthday! My initial expectations were that it would be a Marie Kondo style book- focusing on decluttering. However, it is so much more than that. Home Detox is the science lesson I never had at school and was a real eye- opener. How some of these things are allowed to be sold is really questionable!

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and found it so empowering and informative. Some habits will definitely be harder to shift that others (thinking of my candle addiction), but other things I was really keen to try straight away. This book has certainly made me more mindful of the products I use (and will make me think twice about future purchases).

Some useful info but would require big changes to follow to the letter

Following home detoxing to the letter involves a lot of work and expense, and it would probably be easier to start from scratch. It can also be very easy to jump to conclusions and go overboard with the process.

This said, health is precious and it’s worth being aware of the information in this book as it may help to identify some things that are worth trying and see if they make a difference. I found the recipes for home made cleaners interesting and will be giving them a try.

My one big reservation relates to the use of essential oils. The author mentions the potential risks for children but I could find no reference of the potential risk to pets. Tea tree oil is a wonderful antimicrobial but it, and other essential oils, can also be dangerous to cats and dogs and other animals. On this basis I would be cautious in using the spray and monitor of the health of my pets to make sure I wasn’t harming them.

I was given this book from the author via netgalley only for the pleasure of reading and leaving an honest review should I choose to.

Notes for publisher - The risk of essential oils for pets should be mentioned in the book.

It’s horrifying how so many manufacturers just make things without regard for the health of their consumers. That’s why the information presented in this book is so essential - we need to be kept aware of the harmful products in our home where we spend most of our time.

Home Detox looks to be a comprehensive book on the subject - and it is based on many studies (you can find the long list at the back of the book.)

What I love most are the alternative things you can make and use instead. Love those recipes - especially when you can get the ingredients easily.. I was less enamoured that there are recipes that include a particular brand of cleaning product that is not accessible where I live.

4 and a half stars from me. Vastly helpful book for keeping away from products that make us sick. And some really good suggestions and recipes for alternatives.

This was an interesting non-fiction read. I asked to review this book as I'd just finished reading a book on a similar subject by another author (it was about eating clean-ish to help detoxify the body).
A lot of the information presented was not new to me, though it may be to other readers. I did like that the author provided viable alternatives to frequently used items, as well as provided simple recipes for home cleaning products. I did also note that the author was cognizant of the fact that some of her advice was not always financially viable--not everyone can afford to rid their homes of less expensive and more easily accessible products. In these cases, the author does try to suggest ways in which, methods, or items that are accessible to those of us on a lower budget.
I appreciated that the author included a glossary of frequently used terms and an index, organized by chapter, of the cited studies she referred to throughout.
There is a lot of information here to process, readers will need to work through this book slowly to avoid information overload, or becoming frustrated and thinking that the idea of living a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle is unattainable.

As someone who is prone to headaches, this was a great and accessible guide to incorporate into my home. Going toxic-free can be overwhelming, but Daniella explains easy steps to take to achieve a low-chemical household.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Home Detox.

Wow, this book scared the bejesus out of me! But in a good way.

I've been trying to declutter, reorganized, and live a healthier life, and Home Detox opened my eyes to so much!

I know we live in a world of plastic and overconsumption (how are we not made of plastic already?), but Home Detox revealed I don't know as much as I thought about how to detoxify my life and living spaces!

We live in a dangerous world; surrounded by plastic and toxic chemicals and products, but there are ways to live a healthier life and Home Detox will show you how.

Home Detox demonstrates the numerous ways in cutting toxicity from our lives and living spaces, and it's not hard to do.

It will take some adjusting since we've become a population dependent on plastic, but once you're living and breathing easier, you'll wonder how you went on living the way you used to!

I was drawn to this book for inspiration on cleaning. I didn't expect such an education on the toxins that lurk in most homes. I really enjoyed the format of this book and how it informed me as well as inspired me to do some deep cleaning in my space. lots of great guidelines and help to detox life around you.

A great book for those serious about living without all those nasty toxins in their home.

This book takes an in depth look at each room and the common object polluting our homes. Many of them I didn't even realise were a problem.

There a lot of work to be done and this book holds your hand. With recipes for natural alternatives to some products.

And to finish there are references to studies that back up the guidence in the book.

Great pictures and nicely set out too.

As a nutrition coach who leans hard to the holistic side of the health world, I love this book. It’s such a wonderful educational guide for anyone wanting to have a less toxic home. I love how there are many lists in the book as this is something that makes my brain happy. The recipes for homemade cleaners are also worth getting the book for, even if that’s all you use. 10/10 recommend to anyone reading this review as well as to my personal clients.

In my head this was going to mention clutter detoxing. It didn’t. It also felt very “all or nothing” which didn’t feel attainable for someone just looking to start. If you are already familiar with essential oils and “toxic-free” living, then these checklists would be a great way to fill in any missing gaps. But not recommended for a newbie. Beautiful pictures though.

Home Detox by Daniella Chace is a very well researched guide to removing chemicals and toxins from your home. I enjoyed reading this and plan to implement many of the things I learned in my own home. I especially enjoyed the recipes for toxin free cleaners. The end of the book is thick with information (glossary and resources) and was a little clunky to get through and the ebook was a bit of a mess format wise. The pictures were all out of place and the captions would show up in random paragraphs of print. A few pages were out of place making it difficult to read.

"Home Detox is a practical, accessible guide to understanding the problem and how we can address it in our own homes in a manageable and affordable way."

What a magnificent book! This topic is new to me but the language and diagrams were accessible and not overwhelming. Packed with information about our homes, eco-friendly ways to live cleaner, and the seemingly "safe" products we use daily. Additionally, each chapter covers a different room (like that's extra points for organization), and the book uses visual guides that are helpful for breaking down information. I also appreciate that recipes are included in this book rather than it being separate. Overall, this is the perfect book for anyone looking into clean, sustainable, and eco-friendly living!

Thank you NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the ARC of Home Detox.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. An interesting book about keeping your home clean and how to easily keep it that way.

Great book to help detox your home, but did feel everything for cleaning was using the same product. I’d have preferred the use of other oils as well. I will be trying the windscreen wash and a few other products from the book.

The pictures make the book look nice and colourful. It would make a great gift.
