** “If the rules were made by people who didn’t care about rules, who were only trying to hurt others, then Alexander didn’t have to follow them. And a promise to a liar was no sort of promise at all.” **

Kiersten White takes us on another fun and zany visit with the Sinister-Winterbottom siblings in “Vampiric Vacation.”

Taking place immediately after the series’ first installment, 16-year-old Wil and her twin brother and sister Alexander and Theo are whisked off to the Sanguine Spa for a “family” vacation — one with no adult supervision. When strange events begin to occur, they find themselves drawn into determining the secret of the spa.

Can they help Mina, the daughter of the spa’s missing owners, save the place? And is it haunted by vampires? And just what is the mysterious being that keeps appearing out of nowhere?

“Vampiric Vacation,” which is due out Sept. 27, is a fun tale that will appeal to all ages. It’s filled with mystery and humor and suspense. White does a great job of developing really fun characters filled with moxie and determination, as well as some less-than-desirable ones too.

She also fills the story with some good themes, like knowing when to be cautious and when to be brave; staying together and supporting one another; when to break a promise; and appreciating others for who they are.

Fans of series like Lemony Snicket and James Patterson’s “Treasure Hunters” will love this story and its fun tone.

Five stars out of five.

Two books in and I am loving this series! The author does a fantastic job of keeping you on your toes throughout the stories. You are never quite sure who the good and bad guys are so there are a lot of surprises. There is a connection to the first book which suggests a common villain thread through the entire series. Wil got a little more to do in this book and showed she is not quite what you expect from a girl who spends all her time staring at her phone. Alex and Theo once again make for a great team. As with the first book there is the perfect balance of humor, mystery, and scary/creepy parts. I can't wait to see what happens in book 3 when our trio goes to summer camp!

I’m officially obsessed with The Sinister Summer series.
It continues to be fun and endearing with a mystery that kept me guessing and confused until the end.
I love all three Sinister-Winterbottom and hope we see more of Wil in the next book, but Alexander is my favorite. The portrayal of his anxiety reflects my experiences so well, and it’s lovely to see it dealt with so matter of factly. The same goes for Theo and her ‘bees’! The siblings are so supportive of each other, and I love it.
As soon as I finished Vampiric Vacation, I wanted the next book! Luckily, it was available on NetGalley; otherwise, I would have been stewing for months.

This book continues the mystery started in book one and leaves readers with another cliff hanger. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to fans of the Series of Unfortunate Events. This is a must buy as if you read the first book you will definitely want to continue the series.

I truly love this series and was delighted to hear that the third installment has been announced! On the whole, I thought THE WRETCHED WATERPARK was slightly stronger, with a bit more atmosphere and a tighter plot. That being said, I am loving how the world White is creating keeps unraveling; the larger mystery of the Sinister family (and, it seems, a whole host of other small-s sinister families) is compelling and moving at an exciting pace. (I must admit that as a child, I grew a little irritated at ASOUE's larger mystery, which dangled too many carrots -- though of course I realize now that was the point.) Love Theo, love Alexander, love the hijinks they find themselves thrust into -- LOVE Wil and her trusty Rodrigo. What a fabulous MG series!

The second in the Sinister-Winterbottom series finds Theo, Alexander, and Wil at a Transylvanian spa. Yet again their aunt has abandoned them here with just vague advice. Theo and Alexander realize weird things are going on at the spa and start to investigate. As they do, they start to suspect vampires lurk in the spa.

This was another good book! I didn’t like it quite as much as the first book but we definitely get more of the larger plot here. I’m so curious where it’s going to go and look forward to the future books!

If, like me, you liked the first book in this series, you will probably really enjoy this one as well. The Sinister-Winterbottom kids continue their mysterious, hilarious, and somewhat creepy adventures in this next installment. This time, the children are sent to a spa that is definitely a bit...unusual. The kids also find some clues about their missing parents, but come up with even more questions than answers. I look forward to reading the next in the series! A great choice for fun summer reading.
