This is a mystery where lots of secrets are revealed. The intrigue was there throughout. It is very character driven. I prefer more plot based books.

I love the way Jill Childs has you believing you get why the book’s title is what it is but it’s not exactly what you think.

This was a very good story. I didn’t want to put it down. It was one that had you from the first word. You don’t want to miss this book or this author.

Sara disappeared from the family when she was 3 years old. Suddenly, she reappears. Is she really long lost Sara? Sara begins to get to know the family and eventually moves in with her grandmother. However, Paula (Sara’s aunt) is not convinced that this is Sara and that something more sinister may be occurring. Sara’s return threatens the whole family as secrets are eventually revealed. There are many relationships dynamics explored in this story. The end was certainly something that I didn’t see coming. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

What a heart wrenching read. This well written book tells a heart breaking story that weaves a past through a present until both stories overlap. A story of overcoming so much. Of life and hardship and family. A great read that captures you from page one and holds you tight till the last bittersweet word.

I was so excited when I saw Jill had a new book out. I always find Jill writes from her heart and always writes with so much passion that will just draw you in to her latest book called Long Lost Girl; Narrated by: Emma Stansfield This was an excellent story, that really gripped me from start to finish. When a 3 year old called Sara disappeared from their lives, so many years ago. The only thing that was left of her was a photo and a single knitted shoe
which is tucked behind the frame. As Years past, a beautiful girl approaches them whilst in a cafe, claiming to be Sara. With her wide green eyes and soft, straight hair,

Could she really be their long-lost girl?

But where has she been all this time, and what happened to stop her from coming home?

Where is her mother?

WoW this was a gripping and emotional read/listen about three generations of family secrets.....with a superb ending.

The narrator Emma Stansfield was excellent throughout! xx

I highly recommend this book and all of Jill Childs books they are just amazing!

Big Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for this ARC.

Sara was only three years old when she disappeared from the Turner family. The family has never recovered, hoping day after day, year after year that Sara would return. Out at lunch one day, the family is approached by someone and she claims to be their missing Sara. She has the same looks, the green eyes and the straight hair..
But who is she? not what they think. Really intrigued by this book, the ending you don't get a clue to.

Worth the time you spend reading, in fact it is difficult to put down.

Starts at a slow pace but quickly picks up in the middle. Great style of writing going from the past to the present. Kept me guessing right up until the end.

Thank you NetGalley, the author, and the publisher, for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

A happy family is turned upside down when a woman divorces her husband and takes their only child away. With no available interaction with this child, the father, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt feel the significant loss.

Twenty years later, when a woman shows up and claims to be Sara, the child the family ‘lost’ many years ago, some welcome her. Yet, there are some family members that doubt that she is who she claims to be. One of those doubters is Sara’s cousin, Paula. She takes it upon herself to investigate whether or not Sara is her long lost niece.

Nothing is as it seems and it gets complicated. Relationships are twisted and intertwined. When Paula’s daughter Hanna goes missing briefly, it is like a flashback to when the family felt the loss of Sara so many years ago.

There is a story within this story that takes the reader back many years to when a young pregnant teen was sent to a home for unwed mothers, as was common at the time. She was forced to give up her child and keep this secret for the rest of her life.

The book is well written and makes sense. I challenge you to try and figure out the various mysteries in it before you reach the end of the book.

I was completely drawn into the story in this captivating book.

Sara appears, seemingly out of nowhere and it’s hard to know why, and whether she can be trusted. Paula is a little more wary but Gran is delighted to have her back, and invites her into her home. Gran is the type of person who always sees the best in everyone, and Paula is more cautious.

The story moves at a gentle pace, but as we near the end, secrets are revealed and it’s really hard to put the book down.

I found myself completely caught up in this family drama, and totally immersed in the lives of the characters. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good, character-driven and rich story.

What a page turner! Sara's parents divorce when she is just 3 years old. Her mom takes her away never to be seen from again. The family is distraught and hopes she comes back to them. Fast forward 20 years when a young lady shows up claiming to be Sara. Even though they accept her with open arms, something seems off. Is she REALLY who she claims to be? What a roller coaster ride! I was hooked til the very end. Such a great plot twist!

Long Lost Girl, Jill Childs

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Women's fiction, Literary.

Gah, my most hated genre, womens fiction, why alienate so many potential readers?

Well, I was a bit confused at the beginning, but once the different facets wove together it was much more readable, giving me an engaging story full of surprises.
I understood why Paula was so concerned over her gran's open door policy, and sadly though many homeless are like the ones in this book, there are always a few that are as bad as Paula fears. Once we knew more about her gran though her open door stance was heartbreaking. So sad, and so horribly true. All those lost years.
Then when Sara, the lost granddaughter, suddenly reappears Paula's still worried. Is she really Sara or someone pretending? The family seemed ready to take her in, believe in her but is that because she is who she says, or just that they want to believe she is? And if she's not Sara who is she and why is she there? In a way Paula felt overly sceptical and yet...was she right to be? Was everything as simple and straightforward as it seemed? Well, we learn that like many families this one is Full of secrets, and slowly they come out and turn the story on its head.
A fascinating read, an insight into family secrets and how they affect others and a very readable and satisfying mystery.

Stars: Four, a very easy to read mystery that wraps up well, no loose ends.
