Funny and really enjoyable short stories. There is a good variety within the stories, something to appeal to everyone. Several of the stories in this collection had interesting twists but then a number of them were nothing special or at times incomprehensible.

I think the book does open a Westerner's eyes to elements of Nigerian culture, politics and society that don't get much attention in the press.

You can travel through the book to the different settings of the stories and you will definitely have a good laugh!

Eu acho que eu fui com uma expectativa diferente pra esse livro, eu achei que ia ser um humor diferente, então as coisas que deveriam ser engraçadas, acabaram que eu fiquei olhando pra tela do celular com cara de tédio

Thank you NetGalley for a free e-copy for an honest review.

This is a short story collection of stories that are based in Africa.
I loved some stories and other not so much, but that is always common with books with many short stories.
With these stories set in Africa there were some words or phases that I didn’t understand but all in all I did enjoy reading these.

Not my normal type of book, but it gave me some chuckles in some hard times! I'm not a huge short story reader, but this one has a little bit of something for everyone! Would definitely recommend if you are looking for something out of the norm to make you smile!

Thanks NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC in exchange for my review!

I received this book from NetGalley as an advanced reading copy (ARC). Thank you to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial, and Peter Chika for allowing me to read in exchange for my honest review.

This book was a quick and enjoyable read. It was funny and unsuspecting in some parts, predictable in others, and overall a good read.

I would definitely read more by this author.

Overall rating: 2.5/5

Has a five-word book review ever been penned? No? Here's a first. "It checks all the boxes!". This is an honest opinion of Peter Chika's The Condom et al. Is it too brief?. Ok, how about "There's something in it for everyone"?. I honestly believe that you can't come away from it without being entertained.. Isn't that the whole point? That's why it deserves all the plaudits in the book - no pun intended - whether cliched or not! On this evidence alone, I sincerely believe that Peter is grossly under-rated. Here's hoping that this book changes all that.

Wow!! Just wow!!… This book is brilliant! More than brilliant, amazing!!!… Absolutely gripping, addictive and captivating… I was absolutely hooked from the first of the 17 stories to the last. I had a complete shock at the twists… and a few giggles to myself along the way.

There are seventeen short stories in this book that cover a wide variety of situations. If the rest of the book had been as good as "The Condom" and "The briefcase" this in my opinion would have been a much better book. On another note, I found the short story "The Martyr" a little disturbing even though you could say it turned out well at the end of the story. Overall, I would rate this book average at best. Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for an ARC for a fair and honest review.

The Condom and other stories is a collection of short stories. Some stories were enjoyable as well as meaningful. The best story was the story of the Condom. An easy read if your looking for something light.

I must admit the title intrigued me and the front cover drawn me to the book. I enjoyed some stories more than others . I enjoyed the condom, suitcase, the story about the lady wanted a baby but the other short stories I found hard to get into and did struggle with them.
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this book his book.

A great way to sample literature from the African culture - short stories which are funny and which offer insights into contemporary issues. Fable-like, most of them have a twist!

A collection of short stories well endowed with wit. Fascinating and humorous, I found the stories to be uplifting my mood and making me feel good.

Peter Chika does not hold back in his storytelling. He’s daring and astonishingly unique.

While I like the humor and wit, I am simply not a fan of the writing style. The paragraphs are packed with lengthy sentences and details that go on and on. Instead of painting solid images in my head, they end up distracting me somehow, stopping me from truly enjoying the book.

My preferences aside, the right reader will enjoy this book.

I have come to the conclusion that short stories just are not for me. The first tale in the book ‘the condom’ would actually have made a really good book it itself. Some stories were better than others but nothing you could really get your teeth into.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Books go social for the opportunity to see an arc

A fascinating and at times amusing series of short stories that begs you to ponder several human vices. Each story is unique and Peter Chika deftly sets scene and nuanced characters down in only a few pages. A great read for anyone short on time who likes more thought-provoking literature.

I am a fan of short stories and especially enjoyed this set of stories set around Nigerians.

- Many of the stories are quirky and have a witty endings. The dialogues are sharp and made me chuckle.
- While some stories are surprisingly emotional and hard-hitting. But I do appreciate the sense of reality the author maintained
- I have never been to Nigeria or known any Nigerians. But that's what books are all about. They open up worlds we haven't explored or got a chance to visit (yet). My knowledge about Nigeria is from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's books. And I think these stories match her stories in tonality and background.
- I am assuming all that is mentioned in the book are close to real stories. I could relate to most of them because I have seen or come across most of these "hustles" in other developing nations - my country, India. I guess the rest of the world, other than the developed countries all work similarly - people fighting tooth & nail to survive!
- The writing is enjoyable and flows seamlessly. Though each story is only a few pages the author does a good job setting the story up and diving into the details. Though a couple of stories it took me a page or two to understand the details - especially, the location. When stories are set in Houston and London it takes a minute for the reader to picture it.

A lovely mix bag of short stories !! Some made me laugh out loud others were not so good or engaging !! Gives a lot of insights into Nigerian culture . Not something I would normally choose to read as I’m not a short story lover but overall a good little mix up !!!

My thanks to NetGalley and Booksgosocial for a copy of “The Condom and other stories.
As with most books of short stories this was a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the stories I enjoyed , such as the title, but others seem to need some knowledge of the Nigerian culture, which unfortunately I don’t have.
An average read unfortunately

This book was one I wouldn’t have normally picked up but I’m glad I did! The short stories within are all completely different from another and all have a twinge of strange while also ending up funny. I found myself confused as some of the stories went on but by the end, they would click together! I found myself laughing out loud for a few parts of a few stories.
