A collection of short stories, some more appealing than others. Insights into Nigerian.culture were interesting. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

Thank you NetGalley for this free copy.
This book is a collection of short stories with twists on the ending.
While I enjoyed some of them, I didn't enjoy the others and some stories were difficult to understand. Some were full of African terms and I don't what they mean, it kinda ruined the experience for me, I think there should have been more description or background context about those things. I love learning things from other cultures and sadly this one didn't connect with me as much as I wanted.
Overall, it was an okay read. I laughed at times and if you're looking for some humor, you can check this out.

Overall, not particularly impressed😒

Several of the stories in this collection had interesting twists but then a number of them were nothing special or at times incomprehensible. Before going into the book I did not realize that it would focus on Nigerian society (in fact, all but a few stories are set in Nigeria) and, most notably, endemic corruption. Too many of the short stories hit the same note of bribes as a way of life and ineffectual or out of control law enforcement..

But, truthfully, with seventeen stories to choose from, there should be some that many readers will enjoy. For me, those included "The Condom" (set in London), "The Briefcase", "The Offering", "Martyr", "The Interview", "When It Rained", and the Nigerian scammer story "Police is Your Friend". Some others would have been good but their endings were weak. "Headstrong", about a mistress who reveals all about their affair in a magazine expose and the married lover who fears imminent discovery by his wife, and "Today is Today", about a land dispute (from what I could tell!), I found rambling and could not even finish.

I think the book does open a Westerner's eyes to elements of Nigerian culture, politics and society that don't get much play in our press. But for those same Westerners, the use of colloquial dialect and untranslated words can be confusing.

Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the collection; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Wow! So many great stories in one book. I absolutely loved The Condom story, I was so shocked by the ending. Some of these stories left me shocked, others made me laugh. It was such a good variety of stories all together. I truly enjoyed reading each of them!
