Micah, the prince of imaginary meet-cutes, also dubbed as the “Prince of Chicago” but not your brave𝘪𝘴𝘩 prince because he’s too shy to actually asks boys. So, Micah embarks his journey of putting his crushes into sketches and posted it on Instagram. Fast forward to his ninety-nine boyfriends completed, he’s account booms with popularity, as everyone waits for the spot of Boy 100. He later meet this hot boy then expects it to fill the spot of Boy 100. A little bit enchanting drama with the meet-cute with the boy then left Micah with a pumpkin embroidered jacket and clues. Which means there was  a quest within the circle of friends of Micah. But as we move forward to the story, Micah soon realize that there are so much more he could expect; an intimacy to self-reflections.

This rich modern fairytale with a full spark of gayness. I absolutely enjoyed this delightful world that Adam Sass shares, it’s full of cutesy moments, pastels, doodles, and all the illustrations. I did also enjoy tabbing and highlighting this book because of the funniest and relatable lines and conversations I had to take through. I love how Micah has this relatable yet beautiful voice which made me giggle then eventually switches up to be sad when there’s a moment of loneliness. Aside from our main character, there are a lot of witty yet humorous characters in the story, Hannah and Micah’s parents to name a few. There’s also Jackson, who’s a Filipino, 𝘶𝘩𝘮, 𝘏𝘪! 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴𝘰𝘯!

From the progress of the so-called Boy 100, a.k.a Grant, I love how it shows this electrifying feels about your crush and fulfillment of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙨. I have to say I’m a little bit disappointed about the relationship of Grant and Micah because it suddenly cuts off and to be honest, I was actually rooting for him instead of Elliot. But other than that, I have to say I did truly enjoy this genuine rom-com, it definitely jams my heart with all those feelings.

This was super cute!! Micah and Elliot were absolutely adorable. I had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading this. It's such a fun and light YA story and I think this book would be perfect to pull anybody out of a reading slump! I loved the Cinderella retelling aspect.
The characters felt authentic and the writing was done really well. I didn't want to put it down! I read this in basically a day. I highly suggest picking this up if you're looking for a sweet YA retelling with a twist!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you so much, NetGalley, PENGUIN GROUP Penguin Young Readers Group and Viking Books for Young Readers, for the chance to read this book in exchange of an honest review.

Micah Summers has a popular Instagram, filled with drawings of his imaginary boyfriends, 99, though he has never asked a boy out before. When a meet-cute goes wrong, but he meets and talks to a cute boy on the subway and loses him in the crowd, he and his friends start a quest to find him, throughout Chicago. Son of a celebrity sports radio host, rich and dreamy, Micah finally finds his lost cute boy and starts a relationship with him. Happily ever after, right? Micah will soon discovers relationships aren't easy or fairy tales and that, maybe, his Prince Charming isn't the one and that true love could be closer than he thinks.

Hilarious, dreamy and so beautifully written, The 99 boyfriends of Micah Summers is the kind of book that will sweep you off your feet, making you swoon and dream and hope for true love, even though life isn't easy. Sweet, heartwrenching and filled with love, laughter and wonderful bonds, I loved with book with all my heart. Micah is the perfect main character. Shy, talented, he loves drawing and he wants to find his true love. His bond with Hannah, his best friend, with Maggie, his sister and Manda, his sister's girlfriend is so pure and intense and when he starts going out with Elliot, the cute bartender and Hannah's other best friends my heart was filled with feelings.
I loved how Micah and Elliot started to bond, following clues to get Micah's lost cute boy, in an sun-drenched Chicago, where Micah begins to see the beauty in his city and its people.
The way the author talked about relationships, their ups and downs, expectations, desires and how complicated could they be, when life, work and school are in the mix is very realistic and I really appreciated Micah's journey into understand who he wanted to be and who he wanted to be with, understanding what kind of relationship and love he desired and opening his eyes.
Each character is truly relatable in their dreams, hopes and desires. They are mostly teenagers, growing up, facing the world and the complicated reality of being with someone else and being themselves in a relationship, understanding love and friendships, so their mistakes and fights are "predictable" , meaning they are truly realistic.

Filled with drawings, fairytales and, also, reality check, The 99 boyfriends of Micah Summers is a book about love, queer love, family bonds and support, art and finding yourself. Absolutely dreamy and amazing.

This was a really cute book. There was nothing really unique about this book but it was definitely cute and fun. I enjoyed this book but it just wasn't anything special.

Micah anonymously runs Instaloves, an account featuring his drawings of overly romanticized instant crushes he's had on 99 different guys. But when he bumps into Boy 100, he knows without a doubt that this was the fairy tale he's always wanted. Be warned, however, that though this may be the books' blurb , the story is more so about navigating popularity in social media, recognizing one's one emotional needs, and a difficult love triangle. Overall, this was an adorable rom-com and modern day queer fairy tale that reads quick.

First off, this YA rom-com gets big points for being set in my hometown of Chicago (so nice to have a break from NYC!)! Great to read what the author got right about the city--most of it-- and what he got wrong--not much! Micah Summers is an ultra-rich white high schooler-who has an amazingly successful Instagram account featuring his sketches of various real life boys he fantasizes about. He sketches them as fairy tale characters. He is looking for his "Boy 100", convinced that He will be the One.. He meets a hot boy on the El but loses contact with him before he can get his name so he gathers his friends and sister to help him find the guy convinced that he is The One. He does and complications ensue.

There are a few major problems with the set-up. It is obvious from the beginning who Micah's true love will end up being. The plot kind of loses it's way once the boy is found. But most of all, Micah is completely unsympathetic until almost the very end.--he is a whiny, over-privileged white kid totally focused on himself.

The book does take a huge turn in the last 25% which moved this up to a 3.5-star read. The final scenes involving the show at the Art Institute and Micah's final dash to keep his true love from leaving Chicago are brilliant. and have "all the feels" as they say. In part because his true love is so sweet and sympathetic.

The trope of the clueless MC who manages to screw everything up before realizing the error of his ways is a common one and done much better elsewhere. Micah does not gain our sympathy until too late in the book. Still worth it for the Chicago setting and the feels at the end.

bro wtf this book is so good!!!!!
I couldn't really get into this book in the first 30% or so which is mainly why I took me so long to read it
but when I got into it, I was into it.
I love every single one of these characters, and I especially LOVE the fairytale aspect to it. This book
had me on my toes and it's definitely one of my favorites this year.
AND LOOK AT THAT GORGEOUS COVER AND THE ART INSIDE

“A weary world deserves a little dreaming.”

And the story of Micah Summer is exactly that—a dream of a book that feels like a hug this weary world so desperately needs.

I have been a fan of Adam Sass’s writing since SURRENDER YOUR SONS (which was amazing), but there’s something about this book. This Cinderella-esque modern fairytale is romcom perfection, but it’s more than that. It’s a coming of age story for today’s young adults. It’s the perfect portrait of what it means to fall in love—to really fall in love—for the first time. Sass so beautifully and accurately shows where love grows. It’s not always in the black and white or the grandiose. It’s in the grey areas and the little moments that, on the surface, seem unimportant, but in reality, they’re everything.

Sass captures the magic and sometimes heartbreaking truth of what real love feels like with hilarious wit and dagger-sharp prose that will make your chest squeeze. This is the kind of book you just want to hug after reading.

Adam, I would read your freaking grocery lists.

-Definitely for a younger YA audience than I was anticipating.
-I knew this was a modern day fairy tale romance that had some focus on social media. I did not know just how social media centered this book was going to be. Everything was posted and of course everything went viral. Things going viral in books is officially a book peeve of mine, its an element I always hate when books try to do it
-The main character icked me so much. I wanted to punch him. He is stalkerish, self centered, and has terrible boundaries.
-very heavy on the insta love, another one of my major book pet peeves. He not only falls in love with one guy after like 15 minutes, he then falls out of love and in love with someone else in just another month. Also he treats both love interests horribly how can anyone stand this guy
- pretty much all the side characters only exist to help Micah and have very little of their own personalities. Because of this I kept mixing them up, especially the girls. All the girls are interchangable
-The first love interest, Grant, sucks so bad! Hes insecure and really only seemed to like Micah for popularity. Why was this ever a romance
- The second love interest, Elliot, deserves better than Micah I felt bad that they ended up together. Their romance was framed like he broke up with his toxic ex and got a real prince, but Micah is just as toxic
-So much. second hand embarrassment. I had to skip so many scenes because they were making me cringe so hard I couldn’t do it

Most of the early reviews for this one are absolutely loving it, but I sadly just don’t share the sentiment :/

A deeply enjoyable YA romcom. Readers will fall in love with Micah's deeply relatable flaws as he mounts a quest throughout Chicago looking for love.

CW: physical altercation, cheating, death of a parent (mentioned),

I would like to thank NetGalley and Penguin Group, Penguin Young Readers Group for providing me with a free e-ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I was leaning on giving this book a 3.5, but the ending convinced me to give it a full 4 stars.

Micah Summers, son of the unofficial “King of Chicago” and anonymous artist behind Instaloves, dreams of being a Prince Charming but is too nervous to actually ask a guy out. However, after a chance encounter with his dream boy 100 on the subway and unexpected separation, Micah finds the courage to find Boy 100 with the help of friends, Hannah and Elliott, and Boy 100’s pumpkin leather jacket.

I don’t know how I feel about the length of the initial find Boy 100 quest. It honestly felt too short and the book blurb made it felt like it was going to be throughout the book. I don’t know what Sass had in mind when he made the quest plot, but I felt like we could have gotten more out of the characters if we got to see them alongside Micah on the quest longer.

Sass does provide a cute aesthetic to the teen rom-com genre. He provides the whimsical nature that first loves provide while also balancing it with the realities of relationships. I think that even if some parts of it were too good to be true, I think that the real moments of vulnerability were the most romantic.

I also have mixed feelings about how Micah is portrayed in the book as the MC. I know that Micah is a huge fan of fairy tales and that he’s always been wanting to have his own happily ever after by having the courage to ask a guy out. However, the way Sass wrote about it at certain points of the book makes Micah sound a bit arrogant, especially since the famous dad trope kind of plays into that, and it eventually ends up rubbing off on Grant. Though, I think Sass does a good job of having Micah recognizing this (as well as his affluent background) about himself.

That being said, the book itself is good. If you want a teen romance that blends fairy tales with a modern-day relationship, you got yourself a book right here.

A wearing world deserves a little dreaming.

Oh what a cute cheesy story!!! Haven't read a super corny book in a while and this one had me surrounded by honey hahaha I don't know if I liked to feel all this sweetness. This is Basically a fairy tale and yeah I'm jot totally into fairytales but aww was cute. Something I love the most is a MM story that ends up super cute with them being happy hahahaa and yeah seems like I'm giving you spoilers hahaha but it's a romance hahaha you expected already that they love each other and all right? Hahahaha. And it's cute to read their story developing.

But yeah I'm always honest and that won't change. This is for YA and even if I have loved some YA maybe this one it is actually for YA hahahaaa. And I'm not. But it was still cute. Other thing is that I felt it predictable and I needed twists. It's also good and bad there's an abusive relationship in the book; good because I truly believe YA need to know how abuse looks like and that isn't just physical violence but bad because the story was going sweet and that was hard to read. Micah the MC is a bit selfish too and a bit privileged and I usually avoid those characters, but it's not that annoying tho.

Is the book good? Yes! Do I recommend it? Yes! Is it memorable? No. It was entertaining but not a book you go out there thinking about for a while. It's a sweet story with great characters that you truly enjoy while reading it but, at least personally, as a queer books lover, it doesn't go to my top favorites. But definitely stays as one of the cutest queer stories.

Great characters, sweetest end, cute friendships.

Will post review a day before pub day on instagram @pink.bibliophile

The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers is an unique and heartwarming telling of a book. Reminded me of the cinderella vibes which i loved. Such a cute book for summer reading. The plot and characters were really well written and go well together without clashing. I have a soft spot for Micah, i seriously just loved reading about him, he is so artsy and unique and is one of my favourite characters from the books i've read this year.

There is moments in the book that feels you're reading a fairy tale, also a love triangle and the backdrop of the city whisk you in and will make you keep reading to see who Micah ends up with.

Overall The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers is a YA romance which makes your heart warm, such a fantastic and different style from what i usually read but i absolutely loved reading and going on this journey with the characters and witnessing the happily ever after. I couldn't get enough of this book and would definitely recommend for everybody to read and witness the unique telling of this book.

In 2020, Adam Sass' debut novel 'Surrender Your Sons' made a splash on the YA scene and I've been excited to see what the follow up novel would entail. From thriller to rom-com, Sass has delivered a sophomore novel with heart and love, that we definitely need in 2022! 'The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers' is a story of love, adventure, and realizing that sometimes the hardest decisions to make are those we've only dreamed of making.

Micah Summers is a lover of fairy tales, believing that true love does conquer all in the end, which is why he's on a quest to find boyfriend 100; well, truly boyfriend number one, as he's only ever dreamed and sketched about the other 99. While on the train, he meets boy 100 and is now on the hunt to find him. What follows is an exciting adventure through the streets of Chicago, a band of merry friends who band together to help Micah, and an art show that will hopefully end in Happily Ever After.

Thank you NetGalley and Viking Books for this advance reader copy! 'The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers' is available for pre-order now and is out September 20, 2022!

I have reviewed an early review copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review. Thank you Adam Sass and Netgalley for the eARC!

5 ⭐️

Before I begin, this book is YA, so if you are going into it looking for adult book style writing, then you need to shift your expectations. It feels very much YA, which is not a bad thing at all because that’s the audience it’s intended for. Therefore, I have not lowered my review because of the writing style.

Let me just say; this book made me disney-adult heart happy. This book was full of fairytales and happily ever after. And while what Micah thought was his happily ever after might not have been, the magic was still there all throughout the book. This book felt very modern fairytale, and it was just the cutest thing ever.

I loved so many aspects about this book. From the gay and lesbian representation, the well-developed characters, and the magic that sparkled through every page. I genuinely could not put this book down (hence me finishing it in essentially 24 hours!)

All of the characters - whether they were the main characters or the side characters - felt so well developed. I could see many aspects of the people I know around me in them, making them feel so real.

I also thought the concept of the book was super cute. Micah Summers has had 99 “imaginary boyfriends” - people who he’s had superficial crushes on, but never actually interacted with them. But finding Boy 100 meant he would find his happily ever after. I thought this was super cute, and love how it didn’t play out the way we were expecting in the beginning.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the social media aspect of all this. It felt very real how social media can get to peoples heads, and fame can ruin something that was once good.

Overall, this book was super cute and adorably funny. I loved all of the characters and couldn’t get enough of this book! I definitely recommend for everyone to read, especially if you are LGBTQ+, are between the age of 15-20, love a good fairytale, or enjoyed reading/watching Heartstopper.

"A weary world deserves a little dreaming."

I would call The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers a modern day, queer fairytale, about a prince who realizes where his heart truly belongs. It's sweet and emotional and raw. Each character is wonderfully written. I was pulling for everyone to get their happily ever after and I feel like that's the backbone of a wonderfully crafted story, helping your readers become fully invested in each character. Bravo, Sass!

There are these adorable Instagram posts throughout the story and they make up a really fun epilogue! I think adding those touches in really made Micah and his story come to life, I loved it!

I definitely recommend you dive into Micah Summers’ quest for boy 100. You won't regret picking up this fun YA Romance!

Big thank you to PenguinTeen for the e-ARC to read, enjoy, and honestly review.

A weary world deserves a little dreaming…

4.5 stars

This is a sweetly delightful YA contemporary romance with a thread of fairy-tale retelling that embellishes but doesn’t overwhelm the unique beats of the story. Highlights are the banter, realistic ‘teenspeak’, the many supportive relationships, both with friends and family, and a main character who is very aware of his many privileges. As a high school librarian I appreciate a work that addresses the issue of life-limiting anxiety with such a hopeful and encouraging tone. The illustrations are charming and enhance the story, and many characters’ passion for art in diverse forms - fashion, performance, sketching & painting - enrich the plot while rounding out personalities. Elliot was a bit of a bland spot, for me, and I would have liked a resolution scene between Micah and Grant - the only two quibbles keeping this form being a 5/5 for me.

Would I purchase for, & promote in, my high school library? YES - for readers with artistic spirits and fans of the Heartstopper series.

This was a cute, predictable LGBTQ+ Cinderella retelling. It was a quick read, quite cheesy and definitely for a younger audience. The writing style was quite simple, but it was heartwarming and would recommend if you are looking for something easy to read! Thank Netgalley and Penguin Group for this eARC!
