This collection of essays interrogates and illuminates food culture with an emphasis on dissolving the categories of "high-class' and "low-class" food culture. Tandoh's emphasis on experiencing the everyday, mundane parts of cooking and eating with newfound wonder and pleasure was transformative. Highly recommended.

I adored this book. It is well written and with intention. You can see that the author thoughtfully planned out each essay and looked at the many different cultural, social, and other threads that extrapolate from each topic. I especially loved how she included many other resources as well as direct quotes from people who were better suited to talk on different topics rather than paraphrase their views.

This book is a balm in a stormy social landscape where everyone screams why their answer is the right one (not that screaming isn't also needed). Everyone should read this book, it leaves so much for everyone to talk about and hope for how we can be kinder and happier - both to ourselves and as a society.

Ruby Tandoh shares her insights on food and our relationship with food in this book of essays. It’s interesting and insightful.

This book makes me want to have a sit down conversation with Ruby and chat more about all of the ideas in this book. It’s rare for me to find a book about food that feels so reflective, generous, and gentle. I felt validated rather than shamed and felt empowered to love my body and love food and to be kind to myself. Beautifully written. Thank you, Ruby, for sharing your love of food and for being so compassionate about those who have a challenging past with it.

I watched Ruby Tandoh on "The Great British Baking Show" as millions did. But it turned out I wasn't interested in her, just her food. Didn't make it far in before I bailed. DNF. I'm reluctant to give stars because I read so little, but there it is.

Absolutely love this. Body-positive, food-positive, everything you could want in a book about food. I will be recommending this to anyone and everyone, especially my friends who are caught up in diet culture.

This book provides useful and interesting insights regarding how and why we eat the way we do. If you want to reflect on your eating patterns and habits, this is a good choice.
