I really enjoyed reading this book. Jason Rich is a billboard lawyer, getting out of rehab, and trying to hang onto his law license. His practice is in Birmingham, Alabama. His estranged sister still lives their hometown, Guntersville, Alabama. When her husband is murdered and she is the prime suspect she calls upon her brother to defend her. Even though he has never tried a case in court before he moves to Guntersville to reconnect with his family and home town. I really enjoyed the setting and the characters. The author includes lots of local references. The mystery is good with lots of suspects. It is a quick fast paced mystery with lots of twists and turns. I look for word to reading the next book in the series. Enjoy

A great start to a new legal thriller series! This book has a bit of everything, courtroom drama, family drama, mystery, suspense and an unpredictable twist at the end. Loved the setting in Alabama especially after having visited there a few years ago. If you like books by John Grisham, you should read this book...I think you will enjoy it. Now I'm off to read the second in the trilogy as it is already waiting for me. My thanks to the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I never expected to be a fan of legal thrillers, and perhaps, in general, I'm not. I am, however, a fan of Robert Bailey's writing (which happen to all be legal thrillers).

Jason Rich is an attorney ... an admitted ambulance chaser. Billboards clutter the roadways, from Florida to Alabama, with his face and his slogan, "In an accident? Get Rich!" It's been successful for him and has made him a wealthy man.

But Jason has his struggles. He's an alcoholic who's facing an official reprimand from the bar association for appearing in court while under the influence. And if this wasn't bad enough, now Jason has a new problem ... his sister, Jana, has been arrested for her husband's murder. The actual killer has already confessed but claims that he was paid by Jana to do the job.

Jana asks Jason to defend her - he's the only person she trusts, despite the fact that he's never tried a criminal case in his life.

He's willing to take this on - more for the sake of his nieces than for Jana who, among her troubles, is indebted to a local drug kingpin for an enormous amount of money and to whom she pays off her debts with sexual services.

Jana's story changes, even to Jason, over and over, but despite this, he's inclined to believe her and will defend her while looking to protect his nieces who've been threatened by the drug lord.

This being the first book in a new series, there's a fair bit of set-up that Bailey attends to, getting the reader familiar with Jason Rich, his background and his struggles. This takes up a good portion of the first half of the book and there are a few subplots that are begun here which don't quite pan out in this book but which, I suspect, will play a part in subsequent books.

Jason's addiction issues are a big part of his character but this never really comes into play during the course of this book. And while the local drug king is made out to be someone we must be afraid of (and he does make some minor actions to show he's being serious) we don't ever find him to be the immediate danger that we expect.

The very ending is a little bit unsatisfying. I'm not sure why Bailey gives us this little nugget - is it the lead in to the next book? I don't think. There's too much conclusion in this book for the last bit to come in to play here. (Am I being a little vague here? Yes I am ... I don't want to give any spoilers.)

I'm not from the South and I'm by no means a college football fan, but I do miss Bailey's other legal thrillers, which feature some football greats.

Still, I like Bailey's delivery and fast-paced books and Jason Rich definitely has some traits about him that will provide interesting fodder for books to come.

Looking for a good book? Rich Blood is a legal thriller by Robert Bailey, who has proven himself to be a top-notch author of fast-paced thrillers. This starts out a bit slow, but sets up the series for future books as well.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

I will never, ever, expect anything less than perfect when it comes to Robert Bailey. This book is yet another brilliant legal thriller that will have you guessing at every turn!

Jason Rich has a lot of problems of his own to solve when he is contacted by his sister to represent her. She has been accused of murder. He isn't that kind of lawyer. He is the kind that advertises for lawsuits, chases ambulances, and gives the legal world a bad name. He is reluctant to take her case. They don't get along for obvious reasons and he is in dire straights financially. His visit to her is unsettling as is his resolution of the case. Much to the dislike of his office he takes the case and ends up in a whirlwind of mystery and intrigue. All is not what it seems within the family and on the street where the murder occurred. Enjoyed the book, it is the first from this author that I have read. It won't be my last. Thanks to #NetGalley#RichBlood for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Bestselling author Robert Bailey has created a new series starring protagonist Jason Rich, a personal injury lawyer who has gotten himself into trouble and is on the verge of losing his license due to his alcoholism and hot temper in Rich Blood . He has made himself wealthy and there are billboards everywhere with his face on them. He is estranged from his sister, Jana, whose doctor husband is found murdered, but feels that he must represent her because she is family. Jana is a drug addict, and the evidence against her is overwhelming. Jason has never done a criminal defense case, and it is doubtful that he can succeed, especially since his sister is most likely guilty.

Bailey’s writing style is easy to follow, and he does an excellent job of introducing the characters and setting them up for a series. Jason has plenty of flaws, so readers can relate, but he is well-developed and likeable. Readers will want him to succeed, but the twists and turns make it seem like he is up against all odds. There are several interesting supporting characters who are also quite well-developed. Actually, the novel is hard to put down, and will keep readers on the edge.

Readers who have read Bailey’s previous books will want to pick up this one immediately. Those who are not familiar will find they are in for a good read and will become fans. This is a series that is highly recommended; the plot is well thought out, and there are plenty of surprises.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Attorney Jason Rich has made a fortune off other people’s bad luck. His billboard slogan—“In an accident? Get Rich!”—accosts motorists on highways from Alabama to Florida. As ambulance chasers go, he’s exceptional.
But after a recent divorce and a stint in rehab, Jason has hit a rough patch. And things only get worse when his sister, Jana, is accused of her husband’s murder. Even though Jason has no experience trying criminal cases, Jana begs him to represent her.
But did Jana hire someone to kill her husband? Jason isn’t so sure. He heads back to his hometown to unravel the truth and face off against opponents old and new.

This is my first Robert Bailey book, but it definitely won't be my last. I was hooked from the beginning and lost a little sleep to try and get to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed Jason Rich as a character. I hope we get to read more stories with him in it!!

I highly recommend this book by Robert Bailey! You won't be disappointed!

I love Robert Bailey legal thrillers. They are simply amazing.
I have already enjoyed the McMurtrie and Drake series which are part of the UK Unlimited collection with narration. What a treat :)

This new debut introduces us to Jason Rich, a personal injury attorney who just came out of rehab after a recent divorce. In this book, his sister asks him for some help in defender her against accusations of her killer her husband. Jason is no criminal lawyer but in this instance he does agree to represent his sister.

I really liked this book as Jason Rich is an interesting character.
The backdrop setting of Alabama is beautifully delivered and being from the UK simply a delight.
The legal story itself is worthy of any Grisham books and is expertly done.
The bad news? We need to wait until June 2023 for the next instalment :(

Rich Blood by Robert Bailey
Jason Rich #1

Knowing who the murderer is in the first paragraph means this is not a murder mystery…though there are some mysteries to be solved. Nope, this is more a look into a dysfunctional family that sees the younger brother take on saving his older sister from being found guilty of murder and sent to death row…even though she did not literally pull the trigger that killed her husband, could she be behind his death?

What I liked:
* Jason Rich: lawyer focused on civil personal injury cases, third generation with law degree, wealthy, divorced, alcoholic, a man that was difficult to like at first, well-liked by people he works with, someone that developed well through the story and left me wanting to see how he does in the future – catchy advertising billboards he set up, too
* Izzy: Jason’s law partner, aggressive, capable, caring, excellent at her work, has Jason’s best interests in mind, would like to know more about her in the future
* Harry: investigator for Jason’s law firm, ex-military, worked as a bouncer in the past, good at what he does, wants what is best for Jason, intriguing
* Chase: Jason’s childhood neighbor and friend, military veteran, has PTSD, potential love interest
* Nola & Niecy: Jason’s nieces, caught in a family tug of war, essentially lost both parents when their father was murdered, lucky to have Jason step up when he does, want to hear more about them
* The Tonindandels: three brothers that were wild as children, are distinguished military veterans, lethal, protective and there for those that they care about
* The Tyson Cade thread: a perfect bad guy to dislike and one that no doubt will show up again in the future
* The plot, pace, setting, and writing – drew me in and kept me reading from beginning to end
* The unexpected twists and turns and way I felt at the end

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how people can really mess up their lives…one choice off the path and then another

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Rich Blood by Robert Bailey is a fast-paced, can’t-put-down Southern family mystery. Filled with well-developed characters, personal and family drama, good and not-so-good friends, and a richly described Southern setting, this book is right up there with the best Grisham and Iles legal sagas.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read this exciting book.

Okay, this one didn’t really do it for me. It had so much more potential, and it just seemed really predictable.

Rich Blood by Robert Bailey is a story of family dynamics wherein an estranged brother, a successful personal injury attorney, is forced to defend his sister in a murder trial. The book is well written and has great character development and touches of humor. Many of the characters are not likable — an itinerant handyman, a drug dealer, trailer trash, etc.. The trial scenes are well crafted and the investigative process is interesting.
This is a book designed to cause the reader to forfeit sleep in an attempt to see how Mr. Bailey pulls it all together in a worthwhile and enjoyable manner. I thank NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for the opportunity to read and review this novel and I look forward to the next book written by Mr. Bailey.

Jason rich series book 1

Attorney Jason Rich has made a fortune off other people’s bad luck. His billboard slogan “In an accident? Get Rich!” accosts motorists on highways from Alabama to Florida.
Jason has mixed feelings about returning to Lake Guntersville, Alabama and even more reservations about diving back into his sister’s life. Between the drugs, the affairs, and a tendency to gaslight everyone in her inner circle, Jana has plenty of enemies in town.
But did Jana hire someone to kill her husband? Jason isn’t so sure. He heads back to his hometown to unravel the truth and face off against opponents old and new.
Really enjoyed this book can’t wait for the next book totally recommend

Very enjoyable novel as have been all the author's previous works. This story is a standalone, but hopefully more stories will follow with Jason Rich as the protagonist . In this story, the recovering alcoholic is just released from re-hab when he gets a call to come home and defend his sister who has been accused of murdering her husband. With excellent detail, the author paints an excellent story with characters and settings that truly come alive.
