Novice secret agent Emma Makepeace is tasked with an incredibly dangerous mission – convince Dr. Michael Primalov, the reluctant son of a Russian informant, to go into protective custody and bring him in safely. Emma soon realizes London’s vast CCTV network (and maybe even her own agency) has been compromised and she is left to her own devices. With only her wits and her beginner spy skills to fall back on, Emma and Dr. Primalov are soon trapped in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse as they try to evade Russian agents who will stop at nothing to take them out.
See ya later, Jason Bourne – Emma Makepeace is in the house! This spy thriller is fast-paced and action-packed. Emma’s a really appealing and likeable heroine, and there’s just the right amount of backstory that helps us get to know her but not detract from the action. She’s real – savvy and strong, but not over the top. I hope this is just the first we’ve seen of Emma and that Ms. Glass will treat us to Emma’s future adventures.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Random House Ballantine Books for providing me an advance copy of this book.

Emma Makepeace, a novice secret agent, is given the assignment of bringing Dr. Michael Primalov, the son of Russian dissidents into protective custody. The son is not convinced that he is in any danger, until an incident confirms Emma's story. Both are on the run, trying to stay out of the eyes of the CCTV cameras located throughout London. To make matters even more difficult, Emma's boos has gone dark and no one else in the agency is offering any assistance. It's a race against time as Emma struggles to get Michael to safety.
Thanks to Random House and Netgalley for an ARC.

This is around a 4.5/5 for me. I really enjoyed this spy novel with a female main character. Lots of action and fast paced, but with enough non-action thrown in to make it a well rounded story. My one "really?!" moment was when the main character says no one had ever commented on her alias name before... Makepeace... right. Anyway, I'll definitely pick up future books from this author!
Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!!
I don't think I've really read any other books in the spy/espionage genre so this was really exciting! I loved the background the author supplied about the MC throughout this story. Because of that, this was more than just simply fast-paced and thrilling, it also created a real connection that went deeper.
Emma Makepeace is a young spy and this mission is something that will really prove (or not) that she is worth her salt in the world of espionage. She has to convince a stubborn doctor who is in immediate danger to trust her and allow her to lead him to safety. This begins a chase thru the streets of London with Emma and Michael trying to dodge the GRU nonstop. And, from beginning to end, this book is exhilarating!
I definitely recommend this as a quick and absolutely fun read!
Out August 2, 2022!

Not your usual spy story but one I thoroughly enjoyed. There is more to our main character,Emma ,than meets the eye. Great storyline of trying to protect and transport an attractive man to safety. This is actually her first field assignment. You will have to get your copy to see what happens,. Quirky, fast paced, and well written.

I'm hoping Alias Emma (Ava Glass) is the start of a new series. Most of the action in Alias Emma takes place in a 24 hour period, but Ms Glass certainly knows how to put her readers on the edge of their seats again and again during that short time. I want to thank NetGalley and Bantam Books for an early copy to review.

What a great read for su,mmer, and a real thrill to have a spy novel once again. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and waiting for the next one!

Emma is the alias of a secret agent tasked with convincing a doctor to go into witness protection with his Russian parents who defected several years prior. now the Russians are after them. there is plenty of action and rooting for the good guys to make it to MI6. The end fizzles a bit in comparison but its still a good and fast read.
copy provided by the publisher and NetGalley

Maybe it's just the mood I'm in with current events, but this title was underwhelming for me. Second purchase potential.

On one of her first assignments as a secret agent, Emma Makepeace has 12 hours to deliver the son of a Russian dissident into protective custody. When Russian assassins hack into the city's widespread security camera network, Emma must use all her training and skill to deliver him across the most camera-ridden city in the world without being spotted.
Alias Emma is a fun summer read with a thrilling high-action plot that belongs on any summer reading list. Emma was a delightful protagonist, competent and strong but not over-the-top superhero level. Plus, Emma's chemistry with Michael hit just the right tones, a natural camaraderie without a sappy falling head over heels in love. I fully expect to see film adaptation soon.

Alias Emma was a great adventure. I could not put it down! Emma works for MI6 and has just received a new assignment to protect a handsome young doctor who is being hunted by the Russians. The action is non-stop and heart pounding. I kept wishing for Emma to be successful and protect the doctor as the race through the streets of London, trying to avoid all CCTV cameras. Will she succeed?

An untested British agent finds herself in an incredibly dangerous mission keeping a doctor safe from Russian agents out to grab him to get to his scientist parents. Emma has been given a death mission just getting the doctor to a safe house but it quickly escalates into almost impossible when she is denied assistance, unable to trust her superiors and they must travel across London and avoid the thousands of CTTV cameras that the Russians have tapped into. A James Bond/Jason Bourne style thriller with a smart and savvy female agent. This is a promising start to a new series guaranteed to keep your blood pressure high. My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy.

What a fun spy suspense story! This has it all:
Assassins... check
Spies... check
Fight scenes... check
Suspense... check
Romance....check
The author not only gave us a fun adventure, we received some of the back stories, which really helped flesh out the characters.
This is the story of Emma, who is an inexperienced spy for a secret agency. She is assigned a mission, and she is afraid her agency is compromised,.
Emma is real, not a super spy. She has a story she has faults - she is likeable.
I am assuming there will be a second book with Emma and I am there!
Thank you to the author, the publisher and to #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.

I don’t care what anybody says, keep your Bourne Identity (book - not the movie which was awesome). This spy thriller made up for the time I wasted reading that garbage.
It starts fast, stays fast. We follow MI5 agent who goes by the alias Emma Makepeace. She is early on in her career as a spy, a profession she chose to help resolve issues and questions she has after losing her father when she was a child. Her first assignment is to rescue the son of a Russian informant. I cannot stress enough how much fun this was to read. The character development is solid for an action packed story and I was bummed when it ended.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a fun spy thriller to pass the time reading. Emma Makepeace keeps the action rolling with assassins, covert intrigue, and dirty co-workers.
This book reads at a fast pace and will keep your attention riveted to the plot. Thanks NetGalley for the introducing a new author.

Delightful spy suspense story! Emma is searching for a way to get revenge for her father’s death, after he was killed by Russian spies. She joins a covert spy agency in London, and begins her journey. This was a wonderful suspense story with all the elements, chase scenes, elaborate escapes, fight scenes with kick butt women and a little romance. I enjoyed the characters and the suspenseful plot. I could even picture places I have visited in London. The backstory of the characters helped link them in their motivations. I think the romance part would have been better if they had reconnected at the end.

I was happy to receive an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley! I think this is the first spy novel I've read and the first by author Ava Glass!
This book was fast-paced and action-packed, leaving little time between events that occurred. The majority of this book is about the chase so it heavily relies on rising action and the climax. There is not much of any falling action and the ending is okay. I enjoyed that every so often we got a look into the past of Emma and other characters through dispersed chapters. Some of the action seems a little unrealistic that these characters made it out alive. But her rescue mission, Michael, was a likable character. At one point I thought this was going to get overclouded with romance but that didn't happen and I was happy about that.
If you like spies, London, action, and a quick read this is for you!

I haven't read a lot of spy thrillers so this was a new one for me, but I enjoyed it! The character of Emma was very enjoyable and the writing made this an easy, but captivating read.

Emma isn’t her real name. She has just become a British spy, working in London, and has just been given her first major assignment. Russian scientists that had defected to England many years ago are systematically being killed. Emma has 12 hours to locate and take Michael, the reluctant son of a top Russian spy, to a safe house. It will take every ounce of her knowledge and wits to make this happen as there are many Russians searching for them. The Russians have hacked the face recognition cameras that flood London and without any help or equipment, Emma and Michael must escape being caught. This is a marvelous, fast paced, page turning thriller.

What a fun, thrilling read! I don't typically read spy novels, but after reading Alias Emma, I may need to start! This was nonstop action that never felt forced or obvious. The pacing was quick but with well placed breaks to catch your breath. If I had been given the time, I would have read the entire book in one sitting. I also loved the Easter eggs about London history (like the underground rivers!) that took me on Google detours and made me want to visit again. I hope Emma Makepeace has more adventures, and if she does, I'll definitely want to follow along again. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
