The story is okay, even occasionally compelling (though the last page was a smidge off putting), but Alvarez periodically used exclamation points in the narrative, as though I needed a clue about when something should be suspenseful of exciting. It took me out of the story every single time.

Wow! I think the title explains this book perfectly! This is a crazy-mixed up who done it. I honestly had no clue who did what and the list of suspects is - everyone. This was well-written with characters whom you either loved or hated. Well done, Jennifer Lynn Alvarez! The ending was fairly unexpected. It would be interesting to have a spin-off that dealt with the rest of senior year.

This is a very smart YA mystery. It has all the things that age group loves - relationships, social media, and tons of drama. Jake and Jessica’s story will also appeal to adults who love a great who-done-it. Enjoyed this so much I flew through it!

“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

Oh man, I have to say this is one book I was trying to get to the end to find out what would happen next. This book was so good that after I finished it, I have not been able to start another book. I am having trouble finding something as good as this one! One night is supposed to be fun for all attending this summer party. What happens next affects so many people. We have a missing girl, a boy caught in the middle, and Jess, who is trying to help figure it out all. I loved all the characters. I could feel the frustrations they would have, and they acted just like I expected teenagers to.
I can't wait to put this book on my shelves in the library because I know it will be flying off the shelf. It has everything you need in a story. Fast-paced, amazing story plot, great characters, and mystery. It just shows that you sometimes have to watch your friends and those close to you.

Friends Like These is a YA mystery set in a Northern California town about a teenage girl who disappears and is presumed to be dead. While I normally love YA books, I didn’t quite connect with this one. I found the language to be overly juvenile in a way that was difficult to read (as an adult), and I didn’t really enjoy or appreciate any of the characters. It was hard to find any of them particularly likable as they all had made bad decisions and each had secrets to hide, but at the same time the book itself was interesting enough for me to continue reading it. I think this one may just be better suited for a younger reader!

Fantastic!! I will be recommending this to students who like some mystery and thriller reading with high school students as the main characters.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this title.

One of the most popular sections of my library is the mysteries and thrillers section, so I am always on the lookout for titles that will appeal to my students. I believe that Friends Like These will appeal to my patrons given its subject matter and its multiple POVs that span different time periods that keep the reader guessing.

This is a book about friends and enemies and what people do to one another. It features teens behaving badly and dealing with the fallout of those choices, but these choices blew up to include multiple crimes including murder. It does feature teens using substances, dealing with alcoholism, trying to be viral/popular on social media at any cost, and more. Ultimately, the heart of this book is the need to feel loved and the need to feel like one belongs.

The use of shifting perspectives helps propel the narrative along. I enjoyed seeing more and more of the puzzle revealed with hints here and there.

I think this is a wise buy for libraries that have many circulating mysteries for teens.

This is an unputdownable mystery that had me wanting to read way past my bedtime to figure out what happened the night of the party.

I know this is a book that will fly off my classroom library shelf as soon as I get a copy. The pacing of the novel kept me hooked and I know it will do the same for my students.

Friends Like These is the perfect beach-y read for fans of YA, toxic friendships, and a nicely weaved mystery. With a writing style similar to Kara Thomas, Jennifer perfectly wove a story of suspense and characters you didn't know whether to root for or yell at.

If you love Kara Thomas then this book is one you should be picking up. Set in a small beach town, this slow burn character driven suspense novel really pulls you in. After a HUGE drama at Tegans end of the summer party, involving Tegan Jake and his girlfriend,Jessica, Tegan goes missing. What happens spreads all over social media and there’s just so many motives for why she could be missing, is she hiding out? Was it foul play? When a body turns up onshore things get even more tense. Jessica and Jake both have reasons why they need to find Tegan. The question is, are any of them the right ones?

This was a roller coaster of a ride that will have you truly invested until the final jaw dropping chapter.

Alvarez takes us on trip filled with twists and turns. These "friends" are self-centered andmanipulative. Things go bad at a party and that sets wheels in motion. When a body turns up, friendship flies out the window as everyone turns on everyone. There are a lot of twists and turns and suspects, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

The end of summer party at popular Tegan's house is supposed to be the kickoff to a great senior year. Seniors Jake and Jessica attend the party, even though Jessica is reluctant to be in ex-best friend Tegan's house. Tegan, of course, used to be Jake's girlfriend and she won't let anyone forget it. She often posts photos of him on her instagram indicating that he's the one that got away.

At the party, a video is made and it goes viral quickly. And then someone goes missing. No one seems to be telling the truth and the gossip keeps building. What is everyone hiding? With friends like these, who needs enemies? A book that will keep you guessing through all of the twists and turns.

Everyone is hiding secrets. Jake has survived the death of his Dad and the break-up with popular girl Tegan and life is finally going good with his new girlfriend Jessica, who happens to be his next door neighbor. Senior year is about to start and everyone has been invited to Tegan's end of summer party. What could go wrong? The evening ends with a viral video, lies upon lies and someone missing. The police investigation that begins will find that everyone is lying about something and things just keep getting worse. Who will go to jail? Who will die? Who will live? How will the truth finally come out? You need to read this book. The twists will amaze you. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There’s nothing worse than a friend turned enemy, they know all your secrets and all your weaknesses which makes them a formidable opponent. In this book everybody has secrets, and everybody’s alliances seem to be constantly changing or not really what they seem. Jessica and Jake seem to have the perfect relationship but one night everything changes and their lives quickly descend into chaos. This Book seemed long, but there were lots of things to untangle so the reader is engaged the entire time. Definitely a good beach or pool read.

Thanks NetGalley and Delacorte Press for this eARC, these opinions are my own. There were thinks I enjoyed about Friends Like These and things I didn’t enjoy. In terms of mystery, twists and turns, this book had them! And it does keep you guessing and trying to figure out what’s going on! I struggled though with connecting to any of the characters. The book also covers some difficult content, though some of it you don’t find out till the end, I don’t know if it’s way bad but I could se it possibly creating some triggers! I think I would recommend it though if your into mysteries.
