Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of The Sea Became Restless by Megan Gaudino in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book and it made me feel like I was a teenager again. I remember how every feeling was so intense and felt like the end of the world, love was overwhelming and amazing, and betrayal could stop the world from spinning. That is what this book captures as it tells the coming of age story of Nixie, a teenage girl living on a boat, hidden from society on land.

A retelling of The Little Mermaid. I read this book over the course of 3 days and I really enjoyed it. Very well written and the plot was great. A captivating story that every Little Mermaid fan would like.

I am a huge Disney fan and always have been. This book was such an interesting reading experience! I loved that it was a modern day contemporary little mermaid retelling.

It was a very interesting take on the Disney story and the fact that it revolves around her father and a cult was definitely new. Overall I really enjoyed this story and loved their love story and gave me all The Little Mermaid feels.

This was a fast and easy read that left a smile on my face when I finished.

I wasn't prepared to love this book as much as I did. It's a beautifully written young adult retelling of The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid connections are there and so well written without being thrown in your face as a retelling. Gaudino took the main themes and ideas and re wrote them in an amazing way. Get ready for an amazing story with characters you'll be rooting for!

*Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this in exchange for my honest review*

Nixie has spent almost her entire life living on the Atlantica with her mothers and her overbearing father. She's not allowed to leave the boat, but one night she saves a boy, Crew and her whole life changes. Suddenly she's sneaking off to spend time with him and thinking about a future off boat.

The Sea Became Restless is a loose Little Mermaid retelling. I thought the love story between Nixie and Crew was pretty juvenile (even for YA standards), but I did like that she described herself as a curvy girl. There wasn't a whole lot of dramatic tension in the story to propel it forward. It just seemed to kind of rowboat along. I didn't think this book was particularly bad, but it wasn't the best thing I've ever read either. It was just so-so.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this book.

This was a wonderful story. Nixie has lived on a beached boat since she was 5 years old. Her father has 3 wives, and there are others on the boat as well that Nixie would call her family.

One day some teens are partying on the water when something goes horribly wrong and one boy falls into the ocean. Nixie saves this boy named Crew and he calls her a mermaid.

This story is definitely well written YA, but I think that adults may like it as well, I know I did! But adults should go into it knowing you’re not going to get an almost NA book it’s definitely YA all the way. Nix starts sneaking away with Crew and experiencing “dry land”, finding out secrets along the way. It’s a captivating story that sucked me in from the start. It wrapped up perfectly.
