I enjoyed the factual historical research and narrative as well as the fictionalized story of Arthur. However, the combination of the two sometimes came across as disjointed and ruined the flow of both. I felt as if I was diving into the history and then being thrown into the myth and vice versa. I think I would have enjoyed it more if there were two separate works or segmented as a Part 1: History and Part2: Myth in a shared volume.

I received a copy for an honest review from NetGalley.

Arthurian legend meets factual history. With this book you get an immense amount of historical context, while still having an exciting story. This isn’t necessarily one of my favorite types of writings, I can appreciate it. When it comes to the legend of King Arthur, I prefer the fanciful. That said, I learned a ton from the historical aspect of this book. It is clear the author went to great lengths in his research. For that I am thankful. While not necessarily the book for me, any a lover of the history that surrounds the legend of Arthur will definitely appreciate this novel. It is a gem.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this book.

This had an interesting mix of "history book" and "novel" which I didn't hate? Sometimes it felt a little flat but I thought overall it was a unique way of re-doing King Arthur!
