I read about halfway. I started off invested in the story but got a little distracted halfway through. I think it’s the case of it’s me, not the book! I haven’t read any of the authors other books, but I’ve heard good things. I will try this one again in the future.

Big thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read The Boatman's Daughter when it first came out and really enjoyed it so I was ecstatic to see another Andy Davidson book. This one took everything I loved about the first one and built on it to create what I think is one of the best horror books of the year.

This Lovecraftian, cosmic horror work is exceptional. The pacing is perfect and kept me engaged the entire time to the point that I could not put it down. I read this through in one setting and I was left wanting more. Terrifying, visceral, and intense, I enjoyed every page of this.

5/5 shining stars.

This is very solid southern gothic-meets-Lovecraftian horror, with ample nods to Stephen King and Kingesque small-town characters thrown in. The characters are amply fleshed out, the human elements of horror are more than sufficiently terrorizing and disturbing, and the writing itself flows incredibly well.
