Cassie Dewell returns in this new offering by Box. Back in Montana, Cassie's son is growing up quickly and her P.I. business is in the black. She’s even able to hire April Pickett as an intern. Cassie is working two separate cases at the same time.

Once concerns a treasure purportedly hidden in Montana. Cassie has been hired to find the person responsible. Hired BY the person responsible. The other case involves a con man who’s been traveling the country bilking women out of millions of dollars, with a death and a disappearance or two along his path. As usual, Cassie finds herself in some physical danger. And, as usual, she solves the mysteries in the end.

Recommended for followers of C.J. Box's series, for those who like contemporary fiction, westerns, and female detectives (even though Cassie is a PI now).

Love C.J. Boxes books! Interesting treasure hunt, and the characters were all great! Cassie's two different clients, and the added mystery of the missing PI, were all good. I felt the ending was a bit rushed, in that we didn't really get to follow how she figured out who hid the treasure, and Kyle figuring it out too. Could have been a bit more there. All in all it was a good story and I enjoyed it lots. Highly recommend.

Cassie Sewell is a Montana PI who is tasked to find both the originator of a treasure hunt in Montana, and a man who has bilked multiple women out of their riches. She is a feisty, shrewd investigator, whose son Ben helps at times. Cassie is on the trail of a Florida PI who has disappeared as well as a county law enforcement officer. CJ Box ably balances these disparate elements to a satisfying conclusion.

I found this to be a relaxing read with a good amount of action and suspense. The characters were believable and given realistic dialogue. I enjoy all the series of this author and I especially liked he used April, from a different series in this book. I highly recommend the read.

Cassie Dewell is a former cop turned Private Investigator. She receives a call from a wealthy widower from Florida. The lady is looking for a missing PI who was working for her in Montana and has vanished. She wants Cassie to find him and the man he was researching on her behalf for fraud.

On top of this, Cassie is working on a bizarre case that has captured the attention of treasure hunting enthusiasts. Someone is claiming they wrote a poem that started the quest and they want Cassie to make sure they can’t be connected to the hunt.

Someone will do anything to keep their secrets hidden, including murder. Cassie could be in danger if she continues on the case.

This is my first book by this author and I was impressed. I would definitely recommend it and plan to go back and read the previous stories in the series.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

A really well written book that was very difficult to put down. I have read a bunch of Joe Pickett books and this series is different but just as good. I loved the competing plot lines of a PI from Florida searching for a con man and a missing treasure. The author does a great job weaving these together and I couldn't put down the book until I figured out what happened. Well done and I can't wait for the next in the series.

In TREASURE STATE, CJ Box once again delivers a novel rich in suspense and characterization--the two narratives are instantly intriguing and wonderfully woven together, set against a vivid canvas which reveals the author's passion for his setting. Highly recommended.

My thanks to St Martins and to Netgalley for the opportunity and pleasure of an early read.

Thanks to Minotaur Books publisher, NetGalley and the C.J Box for the early read of Treasure State. Cassie Dewell is the Private Investigator in the second of this series. As Cassie searches for a con man who has swindled widows she finds a poem that writes about a treasure in mine in Anaconda,Montana. I enjoyed the characters and the background of the story. As always a great read!

As a fan of the TV series based on these books, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to read this. I love a strong woman lead and Cassie fits that description! She definitely keeps herself busy chasing two cases at once. I’ll be going back to the beginning and reading all the previous books in this series.

Loved this book! Cassie is such a strong person with family that struggles to understand her work and feelings. I like this book so much, I will be reading the entire series. If you like the Joe Pickett series, you will enjoy this series as well. The description of Montana is so beautiful!

I do like this series. Cassie is one tough woman and I like the way she is written.

This book has 2 plots. A PI from Florida on a case for a woman who was swindled goes missing n Montana. A poem is written on a mirror in a Montana steak house about a hidden treasure.
Cassie is contacted by the woman in Florida to find out what happened to her missing PI and to continue to find the man who swindled her. I like the way the story is written on this part...flashbacks to find out what happened and current day.

Kyle, who Cassie saved and befriended is on the search for the treasure hunt.

The PI part is more interesting but both kept me involved.

What I didn't like. The way covid was written into this and obviously the authors personal disbelief on the efficacy of masks and vaccines. I didn't know he was a doctor or a scientist. It took me away from the story and I wish he had left it out.

This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. This author writes a book that is difficult to put down. The characters are likable...some not so much...Red herrings...I look forward to more stories from this author. This reads like true crime...it is fiction...Don't miss this book...
