Thank you to the publisher @netgalley for a copy of this fun read. The book takes place in the span of a day so it's an insta romance. Though this is not a favorite trope of mine, this was so fun. This was a laugh out loud from the first chapter. I love Clara and Ian's interactions and all the craziness. Both Clara and Ian's parents are very shallow and added an interesting aspect to the story.

I read this in one setting and literally laughed out during some scenes.

This book had me smiling, laughing and more. What happens when a misunderstanding causes a chain of events that are humorous and at times relatable? Have you ever misplaced your phone? Keys? Read this to learn what to do!

It's been a long time since a book has surprised me by making me spontaneously laugh out loud, but Words on Candy Hearts by Augusta Reilly did just that. And not just one time either. I found myself laughing and chuckling my way through this fun and quirky romance.
The dialogue is witty and quick, and the fact that almost the entire book takes place over a period of a day, and in a variety of vehicles no less, makes the skill with which Reilly presents the transition from the two main characters hating each other to falling in love even more remarkable. The back and forth point of view from Clara to Ian provides plenty of humour and keeps the story moving along quickly, and keeps the reader eagerly turning the pages.
Words on Candy Hearts is light-hearted and a joy to read. Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC.

The entire book takes place in the span of about 14-15 hours. I don't know how this book made me laugh as hard as it did only being set in 14 hours. There was an instant attraction, which I am not usually the biggest fan of, but since the book isn't very long-its fitting. I particularly loved the fact that the female protagonist is getting a PhD in birds, It was such a unique aspect to the story. Ian, the male protagonist, wasn't the most likeable character I have ever read. However, I'm sure that is just a personal preference. I really enjoyed this book and I am excited to see it on the shelves!

This whole exchange took place over the course of one day, and it was so fun! The banter, the misunderstandings, the realizations: I was here for it all! So many funny scenes, and such different family dynamics. Enemies to lovers tropes are my new favorite!

Clara’s mom always told her that men only wanted men wanted women as a trophy so might as well make the best of it. Ian’s dad always said women are gold diggers and might as well go for a woman who looks good. Clara meets Ian when she accidentally mistakes his car for her when she is drunk and wakes up in his car . Ian automatically assumes she’s a hooker and tries to get rid of her; things start to go awry when he locks all of his belongings -keys included -inside his car . Now stuck on a road trip with Clara they are forced to be with each other. As feelings start to shift and walls come down, will it be enough for them to find what they always wanted, or will their parents ill advised words prevent them from love .

Okay so this book was adorable . I loved how intuitive they both were with what the other was feeling in the dialogue . It was cool to see how each picked up on what the other could possibly be thinking without letting them know. Clara was so independent and really stood her ground and didn’t let rude remarks from Ian tear her down. Ian was super defensive at first because of his own experiences, but eventually he saw Clara for who she is and not what he was afraid she would be.

I did like the banter and relationship between the both of them, but I did think the pace of the book was a tad too fast . Especially the last 3 chapters to the epilogue ; I totally understand the epilogue was a year later, but the ending of the last chapter to that was a tad too big of a jump. I also didn’t feel like we got to know the characters as much as I would of liked and we didn’t see much character growth.

Overall , this was a cute story and I did enjoy it. 3.5 stars for me

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would! I love how they met it was so unconventional! It had me laughing so hard especially chapter 27 I couldn't stop crying!
I couldn't put the book down especially towards the end with the twists and events popping up from stopping them from getting together!
Hands down one of my favorite reads for this month!

This was a quick and fun read! It’s perfect for a pool day or plane ride. Miscommunication/instant love aren’t my favorite but I still found this book enjoyable. The whole book takes place over 24 hours and our main characters have similar background stories. There were a few details that took me out of the story but not everybody notices that kind of thing and it wasn’t make or break for me. Overall, this is a great feel good book that is sure to get you out of a reading slump or just brighten up your day!

Big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Words on Candy Hearts was a quick, fun read - great for a plane ride, pool day, or the like.
When I say quick, I mean quick. The entire story takes place over a 24 hour period, which at times can make it feel rushed. I also had to suspend reality much more in this book than other romances between the insta-love trope and the extremely unlikely way Claire and Ian came together to begin with. That being said, I loved the forced proximity and laughed out loud a few times between the circumstances and their banter. This isn't a book I would have picked up on my own, but it really was a wonderful companion for a plane ride! Would recommend this one for anyone wanting a light read where you don't have to get *too* invested.

3.5 stars rounded up!

A very fun read!
a short read as well!
fun easy summer read!
the thing is that this book is only 200 pages long and it felt like it was going too fast past.
I couldn't really connect to the character a whole bunch. Maybe the whole time they were just stuck in their car talking, It just take times over the next 24 hours!
anyways its a fun/short/summer read and if you're looking for something outgoing to read, this book is for you!
thank you net galley for this book!

Clara is a PhD student studying ornithology🐦, who is recently single and Ian is a billionaire's son💰, the most eligible bachelor.

Their meet-cute was funny and the story was quite entertaining and had me laughing out loud at their banter. 😆💄

I enjoyed that each of the main characters was unique (slightly curvy h and some hearing loss H).

I disliked their parents.
I know it was vital to the whole story, but I felt there was too much time dedicated to the parent's flaws/insecurities and it didn't need to be repeated throughout the story as much.
I also disliked how many times she had to pee...? I didn't think it was a cute quirk. 😣🤷🏻‍♀️

Overall, I enjoyed this story and was the first book I have read from this author. I enjoyed the writing style and will be looking forward to her next book! ❤

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this eARC!

A highly entertaining, quick, no angst read. The entire book takes place in roughly 14 hours (except for the epilogue) there is going to be instant attraction. There is also some of the funniest miscommunications where I literally had to stop reading and find someone to share in the hilarious dialogue. Clara Zapata is working on her PhD at Columbia studying birds. After getting drinks with her mother she passes out in her car outside the bar. When she awakes she finds the car she is in belongs to Ian Dunning. He’d been having drinks with his dad and found Clara. Because she’s jammed her keys into his ignition he offers to pay her to drive home which is a couple of hours away. It turns into forced proximity and a little bit of mayhem. But it does allow them to talk a lot and learn about each other. Ian is a successful computer programmer but more importantly he is the only child of a philandering billionaire father.

This is the second book I’ve read by the author and I’ve enjoyed both. The humor is delightful. There is a lot of time spent talking about her mom and his dad and their philosophies. That of course shows the couples insecurities and where they come from. The two flashback scenes to their childhoods were surprisingly moving. I’m just not sure I bought into the whole insta love leading to a HEA, but the epilogue helps. Thank you to NetGalley, Rhapsodic Press and the author for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Accidental trespassing, road trips galore, public indecency, and moonlit dances all add up to an easy, fun read. This was quick, light, and sprinkled with humor.

However, it was just a bit too fast for me! I found myself thinking "Wait, 'I'm 40% in and the only setting has been the car?". One second they were in the car meeting for the first time, and then all of the sudden I was reading the epilogue. Everything was resolved but it still felt like an abrupt end.

I was also a bit frustrated with both of the MCs and how quick they were to judge each other. For example, Clara kept saying she’s different from her mother but then can’t believe for a second that Ian could be different from his father because "the apple doesn't far from the tree". She had just experienced firsthand that stories about Ian were not always what they seem but then immediately believes everything she hears about him. Make it make sense!

Anyways, thank you Net Galley for the fun ARC!

I received a ARC for Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

-This book was such a cute, fun, and fast read! I had a good laugh reading this book! 😊

Claire and Ian were super hilarious and their character were so different for each other that made it more perfect. I loved that they had to spend their time in a car together. And believe or not its the best time to get to know someone. I like how they had similar thoughts, a lot in common and they both wanted some one who loved them for what they are.

One thing I wasn't too much of a fan was that she had to use the bathroom to much, and stop to many times. Also, the overweight thing: She was not overweight, I wasn't a fan of that.

Overall, Cute story. I would recommend this book if you want a quick funny book.

A cute, funny read for me. Two people stuck together for 24 hours. I did think the story was kind of rushed. Otherwise, a quick enjoyable read!

This book was great on the premise and it was actually pretty easy nice read. Great for a quick read by the pool . It was heavy on the insta love and miscommunication trope. Which aren't my favorites but it was still enjoyable . The entire books takes place over 24 hours with the majority of it over 12 hours.
There were a couple points where a character would say something in reference to a person that wasn't in the book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I'm going to start by noting that I didn't particularly vibe with this book, but that is not to say that others might not! There was just something that didn't quite work for me, which didn't allow me to enter into that suspension of disbelief that I normally do with romance books. I did like the way that Clara and Ian exist as polar opposites of each other which pushed at the opposites attract trope in a way that I don't think I have ever seen before. I also liked the forced proximity of being stuck in a car together, which I always find fun. What I started to not like however were little things that took me out of the story, such as how many times Clara had to pee, it felt very forced into the plot for no reason other than having them stop, the confusing language/approach to sex work and beauty and "gold diggers" -- something just didn't vibe with me there or at least it wasn't communicated in a way that didn't feel kind of cringey--and the flashback sections which also felt out of place. I will also note, as a point of importance "e----o" is widely considered a racial slur, and should be edited out of the text!

Candy Hearts is a perfect beach read. It was so entertaining I read it in one afternoon. It’s told from the perspective of its two main characters allowing for insights into their thoughts and actions. The reader understands Clara and Ian better than the characters themselves. The angst and obstacles are met with real conversations that build a relationship. Despite seeming like total opposites, these characters make you root for them. Can two people fall in love in one day? It may not be true love, forever love, but at least they are given a foundation on which to grow.

This is a happy, feel-good book. It won't bring about world peace but it will pleasantly distract you from the world's problems for a day.

This was a funny light read about two people stuck together for 24 hours who have really similar life stories. I loved the way their thoughts echoed each other’s when the POVs switched. Each character was well developed and had their own personality. I thought a lot of the scenes were hilarious and enjoyed every chapter. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quick and amusing read!

I like the premise of this book and I liked it overall.
I do think it could include less dialogue, because sometimes it can be a bit too much and it almost makes it feel a bit empty if that makes sense?
I also think they could have been more flirty, romantic, etc. during the road trip because as soon as the have to part ways it all of a sudden seems like they REALLY like each other when most of the story is them bickering. Maybe add some cheesy tropes, the car breaks down, they have to wait for it overnight so they stay in a motel with one bed OH no! Haha. Or maybe include descriptions of longing glances, blushing, accidental hand touching, or some other element of soft and gentle flirtation. Something to showcase their chemistry.
Also the bit where he thinks her mom is WAY hotter than she is, sort of left a bad taste in my mouth. It was the first thing he thought and it rubbed me the wrong way.
I thought him thinking she was a hooker was hilarious and the dialogue where he doesn’t know she isn’t and she does t know he thinks she is a hooker is so so funny. Loved it.
I also thought he could be a bit whiny at times and his “woe is me” attitude came off as sort of unlikable.
I thin overall the premise is really good but adding more showcasing their chemistry might make it more believable.
