Secrets, Confessions, Family:
An emotional story with a tragic beginning for Yvaine starts the book off.
One of the highland Outcast's Cam is the center of this story.
Cam has to pay the laird a penalty for a past wrongdoing. Now he's to escort Yvaine to a priory and help her set up her candle making shop and follow the orders of the priest who is Yvaine's brother and help her start a new life.
Well, things don't always go the way you plan or are going to be an easy task.
This is an intriguing, complicated story of two people who have had much difficulty in their lives and we follow them through many emotional stages as they discover who they are and how they each struggle with the secrets they both carry along with a growing attraction for each other. Add a little girl, a few shocking moments, a mysterious ring, deception, and you've got a fabulous story that kept my attention. The ending was over the top heartwarming to the point that I shed a few tears. Simply wonderful. A very enjoyable read. The Highland Outcast series are what you might call the misfits from the previous series. There is humor and a deep sense of family.
A story I highly recommend.
I did receive an advanced ARC copy for my honest opinion.

An excellent read featuring a strong main female character (and supporting male hero)! This book is a wonderful read and leads well into the next series. For fans of Outlander I highly recommend this book!!

Yvaine is both relieved and terrified by what she has done. She has no idea how to protect herself and her unborn baby from the consequences.

Cam might be a big strong Highland warrior but he has a big weakness, he can't keep his hands, or other parts off the lasses. This time it's landed him in trouble with the Clan leaders. Until he serves the sentence for his punishment, he's banished from the Clan.

This is such an amusing story. All our characters get a lot of difficulties to face. It's very easy to feel for these brave fighters having to deal with very different tasks than they're used to. Not everyone is as honest as they should be. It's not as easy to see how the many problems will get solved.

This book is part of a series. While you can read each book on it's own, I personally think they are better read in order. Just because of the mischief making. Old Callum the inn keeper is probably the sneakiest of the lot of them.

Great fun.

This book had so many twists and turns. I laughed and laughed at Cam and his friends. They may be mighty warriors, but they act like typical trouble makers. Things begin to really get serious towards the end of the book and with some additional twists and turns, it all turned into a beautiful love story.

I really liked Yvaine as the heroine. And although her constant guilt over what she had done got a little tiresome after a while, it made sense for the time period in which it occurred. She definitely grows more confident as the story progresses and by the end is a great match for Cam because she can support him and stand up for herself. Cam took a little longer for me to like - he spends most of the first half of the book not taking any responsibility for his own actions (mostly centered around Avianca). But finally finding someone he can open up to (Yvaine) seems to allow for him to move on from his past and start to think of what his future could hold. Yvaine's monk brother is pretty much the worst human being ever. Even after causing Yvaine to fall down the stairs he still does things to cause harm to her and Cam. Basically selling a child and then still claiming to have the moral high ground is pretty awful. One thing I don't understand is how nobody involved in the burial of Yvaine's husband noticed that he had a chest wound, seems like something that would have been pretty obvious. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book and am very much looking forward to the next in the series!

I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by this author and it will probably be my last.
Yvaine's husband is dead and now she is crossing the border to stay with her brother who is a monk.
Cam is being punished for kissing the wrong woman. So he is to escort her to her brother and live as a monk.
Yvaine's story is sad and I felt for her but Cam just irritated me.
I get that he is supposed to become a better man over the course of the story but I couldn't get over my initial dislike of him. I also don't feel like he changed a whole lot.
The side characters were also dull and one dementional. The writing style also didn't work for me.
I feel like this plot has been done better in other books.

Highland Flame by Elizabeth Rose is a delightful tale of a woman unhappy in her marriage finding something to live for. In it, you can revisit some old friends from her other tales and even return to some settings from previous stories. Yvaine has a dark secret that is eating her up inside. The secret threatens to destroy her. Cam, the lovable philanderer, has his own demons. Their chance encounter set the stage for this enchanting story. The plot line moves swiftly and the characters are relatable. You will love it!

Secrets and mysteries abound in this story. Over and over again, the reader discovers more and more problems - some of which are brought about by lack of listening and trusting. Plus the reader will feel the ups and downs of liking/hating certain characters. Actually, there are more than a few people in the story who have no character. Or at the very least set a low bar of trustworthiness. Than there’s characters who cannot keep a secret no matter the dangerous circumstances. Whew! What a trip this story was and didn’t think they would ever come to a satisfactory conclusion or a happy ending.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

This is a story that grabs you from the very first page. I loved the banter between the characters and the child Avianca is adorable! The author weaves a tale that makes you want to scream in frustration over what the heroine went through. I didn’t truly understand the hero’s punishment for kissing a girl, but it was interesting to see him grow from a selfish SOB to an unselfish man. I also loved the Heroine’s big brother get a chance to change as well. The story has a twist that is very satisfying as well. The writing is a bit “non- Descriptive “; so if you like a lot of depth, you will not find it here.
