This story is full of intrigue and secrets. Lottie is brave, stubborn and determined. Septimus is the boy who left her behind 5 years before. She wants to protect her father, he wants to find out who is threatening her. I loved all of the characters and the storyline.

I just love all of the Lyon's Den books and this was no exception. Excellent writing, storyline and characters. Couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read the next in the series.

Secrets, Blackmail, and Romance

This is a fantastic addition to the Lyon’s Den series. It is full of twists and secrets. Who is blackmailing Lottie? What will her journey to the Lyon’s Den unveil, and how will it change her life? Does she and the man who broke her heart get a second chance at love? Unlike many, she does not venture to the Lyon’s Den to find someone to marry; she wants help to find out who is blackmailing her. She wants to protect her father. This is a gem of a story. It just might be my favorite in the entire series. The plot is fast-paced, and it will keep you turning the pages, wondering what will happen next.

What a confusing web one weaves when the plot is to deceive, blackmail, secrets, and angst in Pretty Little Lyon. It will keep you captivated from the moment you begin the journey with Charlotta and Lord Septimus Grey until the very end! Katherine Bone's story brims with tension building twists, a story filled with characters that come off the pages and pulled me into their tale, that is well-written, with a surprising plot!

Another wonderful addition to the Lyon's Den collection. Each written by a different author, you get a variety of creative and unique writing styles, while still experiencing the essence of the Lyon's Den and the infamous matchmaking of Mrs. Dove-Lyon. Charlotta comes to the Den not to find a husband, but to uncover a blackmailer. Put on the case is none other than Charlotta's old flame, Lord Grey. Together they work together to uncover the truth and secrets are revealed. The story brings mystery and intrigue with plenty of drama and romance that kept me turning the pages and held my interest all the way through. The characters were interesting and charismatic and together made a good pair with chemistry that was undeniable. I also enjoyed the witty banter between them. The story was engaging and entertaining and Ms. Bone did a nice job with vivid descriptions which really made the story and characters come to life.
A fantastic addition to the series!

A quick read.

Charlotta is receiving threatening notes about her father, a quiet scholar, so in desperation she turns to Bessie Dove at the Lyon gambling club. Bessie is the secretive widow who arranges all things. She agrees to help and sets one of her sleuths on the case. Lottie who lives with her aunt and uncle meets our hero Septimus who used to be a student of her fathers

The mystery is solved, we find out more about Bessie, her special sleuth, and Lottie gets her HEA. Just kisse, a lovely addition to the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

intriguing story starting right out of the gate with blackmail and a visit to a notorious gaming hell, The Lyon's Den. The visit is by a gently born lady who is flirting with not one, but two scandals just being there; her reputation and that of her scholar father. Miss Charlotta "Lottie" Walcot needs the assistance of Mrs Bessie Dove-Lyon, the madame of the hell, to find out who is blavkmailing her and threatening her father's scholarly reputation with ruin.

Bessie agrees to help Lottie and has asked Lord Septimus Grey, aka Peregrine Frost, to help avert the scandal. He is able to go between worlds, the ton and everywhere elaeno one the wiser.

The secret that Septimus uncovers causes pain and uncertainty for Lottie and he has to work hard to overcome her objections. They are remarkable together. In the end the secret helps to not only bring them together, but it gives Lottie a personal power that she is worthy and has potential to do great things. Also, she discovers something she thought she lost and values it for the promise of it. Together they are told they will be doing great things and I was cheering.

Lottie's family, cousins are wonderful, like sisters to her. I like their humor and outlook on their lot in life. The love they have for each other jumps off the page. I hope to see Ms. Bone give them their own HEA'S, perhaps through the great things ahead for Septimus and Lottie. ::Fingers crossed::

I have long been a fan of Katherine Bone's storytelling and she did not disappoint. I am not sure if i have read any of the other stories revolving around the Lyon's Den, but I am going to check it out.

Entertaining read with twists and turn before the mystery letter writer is revealed which I didn't guess but this is my first read about the Lyons den world

Back to the Lyon's Den and The Black Widow, but this time the heroine is trying to discover why her father is being blackmailed, rather than to find a husband. With Bessie Dove-Lyon putting Charlotta's old flame on the case of tracking down the villain, Charlotta is completely thrown out of kilter to discover that not only is Lord Grey back in England but he has also been tasked with finding the author of the threatening letters. This is a sweet romance and some of the characters we are familiar with take on a new perspective. There is also a twist in the tail, which I did not see coming. However, it turns out that Septimus Grey cannot easily be deceived and as the clues start to emerge, he discovers that things are not what he supposed at all. Despite the heroine's fears, this romance comes to a sweet conclusion and brings old friends together once more. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Pretty Little Lyon by Katherine Bone is a completely different take on the Lyon's Den World that Dragonblade readers are accustomed to. Charlotta Walcot was the daughter of a gentleman who was a scholar and was currently working to help decipher the Rosetta Stone. He had an impeccable reputation and Charlotta was determined to keep it that way so when she received the first letter threatening his reputation, it threw her into a panic. She didn't know where to turn so she made the scandalous choice of Mrs. Dove-Lyon, who it was rumored could investigate any claim, and make it right. She was beyond nervous, and then a thoroughly disreputable looking man called Frost was brought into the investigation, she was certain she's made a mistake. Lord Septimus Grey lived a double life since he had returned from the continent. He had been a spy for the crown and missed his former avocation and had adopted a second persona: Frost., so he could continue to investigate and also live as the Viscount the unfortunate deaths of both his father and his brother had left him. He had been gone for years and the only regret he had was leaving his little Lottie behind. He viewed all other women through this lens and they came up lacking.

Charlotta didn't intend to marry. She was satisfied with her life as it was and she had not need for a husband. She had been in love once and it ended poorly and she had no desire to revisit it. The blackmail letter clearly stated that the price for her father's reputation was that she marry. She as distressed for several reasons with this request. Then, She ran into Lord Grey, whom she hadn't seen in years, and life changed for her. She had loved him then and she loved him now. Things took several odd twists that opened now paths for all of them. Mrs. Dove-Lyon showed a side of herself that was new and intriguing. She has shown us glimpses of her humanity in other books, but we see it in full force here and it is enlightening. You can go back. Charlotta and Septimus, even Mrs. Dove-Lyon prove that to us. A delightful read.

This is the first book I've read from this author. Charlotta Walcot is being blackmailed...but by who and why? Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon owns a house of ill repute but also is a matchmaker. Charlotta goes to Mrs Dove-Lyon for help in figuring out who the blackmailer is. Lord Septimus Grey works with Mrs Dove-Lyon investigating things for her. Septimus steps in to help figure out whats going on, though the past he has with Charlotta gets in the way a bit. I enjoyed the mystery within the book and the rest of the story was a WHAT! This book was interesting though the matchmaking owner of a house of ill repute was a little different. I enjoyed Charlotta's spunk and Septumus' soft side. Steam level: 1

Another wonderful visit to the exclusive Lyon's Den and this time for help finding a blackmailer. Not to find a husband. Of course Mrs Dove-Lyon never fells to make her matches and she slips this one in!

A second chance at love, combined with a mystery, a disguised assistant to Dove-Lyon and a road to happy ever after, if they can only find their way.

Katherine Bone is a fabulous writer and if you have never read her stories, be sure to treat yourself. She always weaves her magic and leaves you with a smile!

Another interesting visit to the Lyon’s Den, but one with a different reason. Charlotta Walcot is being blackmailed with threats to marry or see her father ruined. Independent, smart, and dedicated to her father, she seeks help. She goes to Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon to help her, not to find a husband, but the blackmailer. She knows the widow has the resources to do so. Lord Septimus Grey, one of her father’s former students and the only man Lottie has ever loved, is working for Mrs. Dove-Lyon disguised as Peregrine Frost, undercover investigator. She assigns him Lottie’s case. Could it be that the widow sees another matchmaking opportunity here? If that’s so, she should be aware that Lottie has not use for Lord Grey. This one has secrets, mystery, a second chance for love, and a surprise you don’t want to miss. Will Lord Grey solve the blackmail mystery? Can he and Lottie clear the air and start anew? A well-done compelling story with very likeable characters. I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the use of the wise Aesop fables that grace each chapter. I had not thought of them in years, they brought back several of the childhood fables my mother told me. Our heroine has a terrible problem. She has received messages from an unknown person threatening to expose her father and destroy him. She has no mother, who died in childbirth, and she was raised in her uncle’s home with her cousins. Charlotte’s father is a professor of antiquities at Cambridge University and highly thought of. Just what is she to do? Would the Black Widow of the Lyons Den be able to help her? Would she be brave enough to try and find out? Katherine Bone has developed a wonderful tale of deception, a lost love, and an unexpected conclusion. I really enjoyed reading the “Pretty Little Lyon” and I believe you will, too.

Charlotta Walcot is receiving threatening notes. Why would anyone cast aspersions against her father, a mild-mannered professor of antiquities at Cambridge University? Desperate to swerve the scandal that would destroy both her and her father’s reputations, Charlotta dares to venture into the Lyon’s Den. There, she begs its owner, the mysterious Black Widow, Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, to use her connections to identify her blackmailer. Obliged to attend her cousins’ coming-out ball, she collides with Lord Septimus Grey. After witnessing the delivery of another unpleasant note to her, Septimus offers his help. But how can Charlotta place her trust in him since he is the man who, years ago, stole her young and impressionable heart?
Another entertaining addition to the Lyon’s Den world & a delightful second chance romance with a mystery thrown in too. We actually learn a little about the black widow too. I liked both Little Lottie & Septimus. I read this novella in a sitting, I just wished it could have been longer
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Lottie Walcot is being blackmailed. Fear for her father's reputation and those of her uncle, aunt and cousins, she goes to The Black Widow of Whitehall for help. Septimus, Baron Grey, does business for Mrs. Dove-Lyon in the disguise of Peregrine Frost. Entering Mrs. Dove-Lyon's office as Mr. Frost, he is shocked to see Lottie, the woman he's never stopped loving. She doesn't recognize him in his hat and worn dirty clothes. After she leaves, Mrs. Dove-Lyon puts Lottie under his protection. Septimus is no fool and all clues lead back to one person. If Lottie knows the blackmailer, is there hope for Septimus to win back the woman he loves? Rumors and secrets revealed could make for interesting Lyon's Den books in the future. I'm not sure I was ready for this one.

What starts out shrouded in mystery ends rather lightheartedly genuine. A lovely story of a love lost, and a love found. Timing is everything in love, and Lord Grey realized this, prompting him to leave the girl he loved to make a life for himself. Feeling abandoned Lottie moved forward in seeking knowledge and ignoring the pressures to wed until she starts receiving letters threatening her fathers reputation if she does not wed. I can honestly say, I did not foresee the identity of the blackmailer. Though I had suspicions of the persons involvement, I did not think them guilty. I have read many of the Lyons Den books by various authors, but I truly enjoyed this closer look into the Black widow of Whitehall. We got to explore her character more and maybe even see a glimpse of her motivations in her matchmaking endeavours. Grey & Lottie’s youthful infatuation blossomed to a true love story in the end.

This was enjoyable and entertaining to read, it’s a while since I’ve read a book from Ms Bone, so it was a nice change of tempo and writing styles.

A fun and very attention holding addition to the Lyon stable. One that has very good characters and a wonderful storyline.
I’m going to have to look up more from the author.

Charlotta has been getting notes that threaten her father. She will do anything to protect her father who has been her main support since her mother died giving birth to her. She would love to have met her mother. She goes to Mrs Dove-Lyon for help. The past student of her father was her one love when she was growing up. They have not seen each other in years but each feel the same attraction when they meet again. Can they find love enough to marry? Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this different Lyon's Den book.

Pretty Little Lyon is a story from the interconnected world, The Lyon’s Den. This was my first book from Katherine Bone and as usual the stories from the Lyon’s den do not disappoint. This is a second chance romance with a bit of mysterious situations mixed in, which makes for an entertaining story. We are treated to more details about the ever elusive Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, the black widow of Whitehall, and notorious matchmaker. The MCs are both likable even if they slightly annoyed me 😉

The heat level on this story comes in at a frosty score of 0.5 flames 🔥 ❄️ don’t expect any sexual encounters during the story, just a couple kisses.
