This was such a fun regency novel full of rumors, gossip, and sweet romance! Edward and Amelia are forced to marry after he saves her from falling into the water, much to both of their dismay considering Edward’s reputation in London as a rake. Through a series of setbacks, the two eventually find love in a most satisfying manner. I loved this book so much for a multitude of reasons, but one of them was the inclusion of music! Amelia spends numerous scenes playing piano and expressing herself and her emotions in that way, which was so intriguing to read about. I also loved the witty banter between Edward and Amelia, it progressed so much from the beginning when they are at odds until they develop a friendship, and eventually fall in love. The way the events of scandal and gossip unfold throughout the final act was so exciting to read and had me hooked as well! Overall I would definitely recommend Edward and Amelia- Out Now!

I loved this romance between Edward and Amelia! A very clean romance where the characters are brought together for a marriage of convenience but learn to love each other.

This is such a sweet story. I loved it from beginning to end. Karen Thornell is a brilliant author and have loved all the books I’ve read of hers. The characters are well rounded and your feel personally connected. Well done!!

Karen Thornell does a beautiful job telling the story of two people with seemingly opposite goals who are forced into marriage. As their walls and facades come down, they find themselves feeling seen, loved and in love. I loved reading Edward and Amelia’s story of coming to accept and love themselves and eachother for who they really are, disregarding society and others’ perceptions of them. This was a wonderful read and one I will be recommending to my friends!

I received an ARC of this novel but this review unbiased and my own thoughts and opinions.

Edward and Amelia are in a compromising situation, even though neither of them did anything wrong, but Amelia’s father forces her to marry Edward to save her reputation.
They end up falling for each other and it’s an enjoyable time following their story.

Edward and Amelia is a squeaky clean regency romance (kissing only). I really enjoyed it, and if you like books with less spice, but still the flirting and witty banter, this books is for you.

I adored this book so much. Edward and Amelia's relationship really pulled me in. I loved their "meet-cute," which I guess could be renamed as "meet-disaster." It had me laughing-out-loud. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I really enjoyed this story. I thought the characters were funny and unique. I loved how a possible scandal forced them to get married but I loved how Edward worked so hard to make Amelia fall in love with him. I liked that once they were willing to be themselves and opened up to each other, then that was when they fell in love. I enjoyed many of the side characters that were trying to help them see how important honesty is. I thought this was a good book and recommend it.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

Ugly sisters and non conformity!

Marriage of convenience trope is stretched to include a young woman, Lady Amelia Kennington, youngest daughter of the Duke of Stafford, who found herself forced to marry a stranger she’d met whilst investigating the cries of a child along the banks of the Serpentine River. Said young lady should not have been unchaperoned in the park without a maid, and should not have spoken alone to a gentleman who turned out to be the much vaunted rake, Edward Drayton, the Earl of Norwich. Falling into the waters of the Serpentine didn’t help, although really that was more Edward’s fault. So public a place and so damning when they were caught by other members of polite society. The young woman is more a Cinderella figure with very superior twin sisters (stand-ins for the ugly sisters) and a father who has no patience with her (wicked step mother equivalent). Of course this is only half the story but the couple coming to an understanding after the wheat has been sorted from the chafe, including Amelia and Edwards personal trials and tribulations, and the scandals and viciousness that surrounds the couple. I must admit to being frustrated on occasion by both characters, and the attempted excuses that neither had good role models for marriage became somewhat lame. I also become quite cross with the bullying Amelia received from her sisters, Edith in particular. I kept wanting Amelia to face Edith down. Alas, I’m not sure that even occurred. Still love triumphs, albeit awkwardly.

At the beginning of this book, the characters exasperated me, but I’m sure that that was the point. Once they began to communicate, their relationship improved, and so did my appreciation of them! In addition to my renewed appreciation for clear and direct communication, I was also grateful that I do not live in a society structured by such rigid rules, restrictions, and expectations as those of Regency London., although it was interesting to read about it. While it was not overly difficult to figure out who was behind the machinations to ruin Edward and Amelia’s reputations, this was an engaging romance. The minor characters are well-developed and the settings are described in detail, and both of these elements help to create a satisfying novel. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ARC!

2.5

Edward and Amelia's story falls into two of the most common traps for the romance genre: 1. over the top and drawn out drama threatening to tear them apart over jealousy and 2. a giant wedge driven between them called The Big Misunderstanding (which is unveiled and unraveled, to reveal that our hero is really noble after all, naturally).

These things serve to drive the plot, keeping our two star crossed lovers apart until the time is right (read: the very end). But I'm not into the ugly drama, the angst, the emotional extremes... and what's more, I don't think they're necessary to connect with the characters - to make you root for them, to be invested in their happy ending.

I was especially frustrated because it started so well. Edward really is obnoxious in a great way. He is not easy to like, let alone love. He has a past, is unrepentant, and pretty shallow. His actions and thought processes were believably aggravating (and funny). I thought this was a fantastic set up for some great character growth and bonding.

It took a turn around the halfway point however. Out of place pining. Inappropriate questions from strangers that are met, not with a set down or at least a guarded reply, but with (IMO) unwise vulnerability. And don't even get me started on Miss Brooks. That whole situation was painful and frustrating to read.

I so wanted to like this book. I can't recommend it, but will try future books by this author.

4.5 stars rounded up

Edward and Amelia is about a forced marriage between two people who don't seem to belong together with an overtone of enemies to lovers because who wants to be forced to marry someone they just met. Amelia and Edward have the most awkward and funny first meeting, but because people happen to come upon them soon after the incident, and Edward has a less than stellar reputation, Amelia's reputation is sure to be ruined so Amelia's father has them marry quickly. It's not quite the way to start off a marriage.

Amelia would rather have been shipped off to her family's country estate and become a spinster than marry Edward, whom she didn't know; she'd only just met him. All she knew were the rumors all around town about all the young women he'd "ruined". Edward makes a plan to win over Amelia but, despite his reputation, the poor man is quite clueless about women and it made me wonder how these two would ever get together.

I love the person Amelia is when she's with Edward--the submissive girl she is around her family disappears and the true Amelia emerges. The one who loves to play the piano, the fiesty one with the witty remarks. Edward's first attempts at wooing Amelia were hilarious but he drove me crazy because he wouldn't clear up the rumors about his reputation with Amelia. They'd made so much progress but then the rumors almost destroyed it because he hadn't told her the truth yet.

I loved watching these two develop feelings for each other and fall in love. Each of them had emotional scars that needed healing and I loved watching them help each other do that. Amelia's oldest sister, Edith is truly the world's worst sister and though she was punished, I feel she didn't get the comeuppance she truly deserved.

Story Notes

Oh, I was so glad to read this story! Edward is the "rake" who's reputation precedes him but I just knew he would make a great hero. And to have such a great love for him as Amelia, this was a brilliant move by Karen. Though they both have past hurts, together they become strong and just what the other needs. I absolutely despised her sister Edith though....gosh, what a catty jerk! And to treat Amelia that way because of some misunderstood angst was entirely beyond the pale. I did love how everyone else rallied around Edward and Amelia to help them thrive together. Especially the two Matrons. They added such funny conversations and pushed the couple together in all the best ways. And the ending was really wonderful too. Everything finally got said and sorted and I'm so very glad it did. They really are the perfect match for each other and I can hardly wait to see how they will help others find love too. You'll certainly want this one on your TBR soon because you won't want to miss reading it. I'm hopeful others will find it as delightful as I did.

I love this book! One of my new favorites.

Edward is tired of his reputation as a rake and wants to change it. He is lonely and looking for a good woman to marry. Amelia is kind and enjoys playing the piano, but she has physical scars from an accident and is mistreated by her family. Her sister Edith is the epitome of a mean girl. It’s hard to understand how someone could be so calculating and cruel. Edward is hilarious, but more importantly he is protective of Amelia from the start. They’re a perfect match but it is nearly impossible to make their marriage work with many people around them trying to destroy it.

This is a new author for me but I look forward to reading more of her books. Her writing pulled me in and I didn’t want to stop reading. You can’t help but feel for Edward and Amelia in their difficult situations and hope they will find love in each other. 5 stars! Thanks to Covenant Communications and NetGalley for a temporary digital copy to use for my review.

Edward and Amelia is a delightful Regency romance, perfect for fans of “marriage of convenience” tropes. Amelia and Edward are keeping secrets, and neither want to fall in love. Fate has other plans, of course. There were so many familiar parts of this story for Regency lovers, making this a cozy comfort read. I love when we get to really see when each character falls in love and find their way to each other. Thank you to @netgalley and @covenantcommunications for the copy in exchange for an honest review!

Loved this one! I love marriage of convenience and this one was so good! Definitely lots of drama and Amelia’s sister was evil but I loved how it all unfolded and there was so much closure at the end. Edward had a lot to figure out and was clueless at times but he was a great MC. Amelia was tender hearted but fiery and I liked getting her backstory and see how she came into her own by the end. Such a fun regency. Highly recommend!!

I have enjoyed every book I've read by Karen Thornell and this one did not disappoint! Edward and Amelia's first meeting led to their forced marriage. I enjoyed watching the two of them get to know each other and fall in love. The slow burn between them was masterfully executed. I loved seeing the growth in each character as they pushed to be better. I loved this book and look forward to future stories by Ms. Thornell.

I adored everything about this book! This is a classic forced marriage after the ton gets to wagging their tongues. I like that Amelia and Edward truly ease into a friendship. There were times I wasn’t sure they were going to get there, with all the misunderstandings and hiding behind their masks, but the journey made the outcome so much sweeter. I love how Edward so woefully fails in his attempts to woo Amelia and her resulting ire was comical. I really enjoyed the supporting characters, both those who supported Edward and Amelia as well as those who opposed them. The tensions were strung just right to really draw out my emotions. I laughed and cried while reading and gave a wholehearted contented sigh at the end. Once they both got it right, they made for quite the pair that I highly recommend to others who love clean regency romances.

Have you ever had an awkward date? I'm sure all of us could raise our hands. Some of us multiple times over. *Me raising hand* Let's just say that poor Edward has some very awkward and bumbling moments throughout this book. Especially near the beginning. I wasn't sure how I felt about him to begin with. But I knew there was a story behind his personality and facade. And sure enough, the more the author revealed about who he was the more I really liked his character.

Amelia was instantly endeared to me. Her family life and circumstances will pull at your heartstring and have you feeling for her and her situation. You'll be cheering her on and hoping she'll find joy and freedom. At least I was. And boy, oh boy, was I really happy for her when she started down that path.

These two meet under circumstances that unfortunately, but rather fortunately, force them into a hasty marriage. Edward keeps bumbling along thinking he's courting his now wife but not really helping himself. And Amelia just isn't quite sure what to think of him. But of course us readers are getting more tidbits of info that Amelia and I kept trying to tell her through the pages of my book to just hang on and trust him. It'll get better.

And the chemistry between them was so fun to watch develop. Of course there was a budding friendship as well, mixed with plenty of humor, emotions, frustration with family, anger at family (this of course is purely, or mostly my emotions towards her family, one member in particular), new friendships, sorrow from the past, hidden secrets, discovered secrets, falling in love, understanding and much, much more!

I picked this up and was so excited to read it, and it ended up taking me such a long time to read due to some craziness in life. So my emotions were up and down towards it and certain characters. But each new scene I was able to read brought more understanding and had me coming to love Edward and Amelia more and more. I ended up adoring his character so much.

Watch out for that one person that you're supposed to not like in the book. I loathed that character. Grrrr. Hahaha. I know. This is a book. These characters aren't real. But my feelings towards them sure are. My guess is that you'll probably feel the same once you pick up this one and discover and these characters and your feelings towards them.

Content: Clean. Marriage of convenience/Arranged marriage story. Nothing more than a few kisses.
