Edward and Amelia is a hate-to-love regency romance novel. I am one of the many people who have gotten into this genre thanks to Bridgerton, so I was excited to dive into the book.

Due to some unfortunate incidences, Amelia's season ends up being cut short when her father, the duke, makes her marry Edward. In order to make her father happy and avoid the tons gossip, they move forward with the wedding. While Edward tries to make best of the situation, Amelia makes her dislike for her new husband clear.

I enjoyed Amelia's and Edward's relationship quite a bit. Even though this is a clean romance (we don't get more than kissing - sorry!), you could really feel their chemistry. Especially Edward undergoes quite the character development and wants to be better for Amelia. Edward's bad reputation definitely hinders their relationship a lot. There are quite a few misunderstandings, that could be cleared if Amelia would just ask questions and stop assuming/ listening to gossip, so I found that frustrating after a bit.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but not the last! It took me on an emotional ride. I gasped, I laughed, and the writing flowed well. I really felt for the character’s struggles and I found myself rooting for Amelia and Edward from the beginning. If you’re a fan of regency romances, this is one to add to your TBR. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via netgalley.

This book is a heartbreaking and yet adorable read! I could NOT put it down! Amelia’s tragic story doesn’t let down throughout the whole story, and it leaves you on edge right to the end. Edward has his own share of tragedy as well, and so their forced union is rocky and confusing. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of time for laughs and swoons. Edward is a romantic at heart, and he wants so badly to have a successful marriage. He tried so hard, and it endeared me to him immediately. I don’t want to give away too much but I just want people to know that this book is a must-read!

This book was so CUTE! I loved both Amelia and Edward, and I appreciated seeing how they both grew throughout the novel. This sweet, slow-burn romance was just what I have been wanting to read, and I devoured this book in only one night. Engaging plot, lovely characters, sweet, clean romance. This was my first book by Karen Thornell, but I will definitely be reading more of her works in the next few weeks!

Having avoided the marriage mart for years, and in consequence, earned the title of a rake, Edward is ready to get out of it al together. However, he will not be forced into a marriage. He has avoided it before, he will avoid it now. Except this time it is different. It is simply a wrong place, wrong time situation. He was simply helping the Lady. But that is what makes the decision to say no this time difficult, even though his hand is being forced, the Lady in question wants nothing to do with him. So he agrees to save her from ruin.

Amelia Kennington is the youngest daughter of a Duke. She is perfectly content to simply live the rest of her days in solitude and in the country. Unfortunately, she is forced to participate in the Season, even though her older twin sisters are still unmarried. Feeling stifled and needing fresh air, she escapes her London home and, while trying to retrieve her bonnet, is "rescued" by Lord Norwich and discovered in an embrace all at the same time. Forced to marry to absolve rumors and to be kept from ruin, she despises the gentleman and especially his reputation. Keeping herself, her heart, and her unfortunate scars to herself seems like the best option. She cannot allow their marriage to become anymore intimate than just friends. What she doesn't bargain for is seeing more to the man than the rumors and falling in love with him.

This is such a great story! I loved every minute of it and could not put it down. I loved being able to see "behind the mask" of Edward and see his true self. I highly recommend this story!

Edward and Amelia have a rough start, and lots of hurdles to work through in their quest for happiness. Both have many redeemable qualities and it's fun to get to know them through the story. Some parts moved slowly, overall a book I recommend!

I enjoyed reading Edward and Amelia and found it to be a fun and entertaining story. I give it four stars.

Pleasant regency romance. Edward and Amelia are forced to wed but discover who they are together which is far better than being apart! This lovely couple fumble their way through marriage but falling in love is a truly beautiful thing. Enjoy this wonderful story!

Every so often a book comes along that stops you in your tracks. That makes you pause life for the day and focus solely on reading the next chapter and then the next. A book where you meet characters so life like that they could be your friends and a story so lovely you want to start over from the beginning the moment your eyes reach the end.

That was Edward and Amelia for me.

What I had anticipated would be a short and sweet marriage of convenience story quickly exceeded my expectations with its depth and warmth.

A social pariah because of his rakish past and a woman scorned by her family and hiding a bevy of scars are united in a marriage that from the start seems to be anything but convenient.

This was my first novel by Karen Thornell but I assure you it will not be last. It was a joy to read this book and I look forward to many fine hours curled up with her books in my future and hopefully yours too!

This book releases June 6 an is definitely another to be on your TBR. This book was also a book I could not put down. My poor house is looking very neglected, but I had to know how it ended. I really enjoyed the characters and loved seeing some familiar characters from previous books. The story was well told and I enjoyed every minute of this book.

After a chance and somewhat scandalous encounter, Edward and Amelia are forced to wed. Can they learn to love each other or will their pasts always haunt them?

Marriage of convenience troupe, they then become friends and then fall in love. Amelia goes out unchaperoned and has a run in with Edward that leads to their forced marriage. They both have secrets they are hiding form one another that cause continuous misunderstandings in their relationship.

I understand Amelia's reluctance to discuss her scars with her husband as she has been told her entire life they make her unloveable. But to have so much plot revolve around Amelia's scars I felt like their reveal didn't get very much focus. Also, I'm found Edward's failure to discuss his past much less convincing.

Amelia's sister, Edith was definitely a character you can love to hate, but she never really gets her due.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in a clean, marriage-of-convenience trope. Thank you to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book, and all opinions are my own.

Convent marriage, regency era, and secrets.
Amelia is very similar to Cinderella. She has a family who dislikes and is ashamed of her. A very unfortunate incident with a handsome man lands her being forced to marry him. Him being the most notorious rake in London. The Earl of Norwich, Edward Drayton has decided to reform his ways and find a bride this season. After being caught in an awkward position, he is left with a convent solution and is soon married. Both Edward and Amelia are hiding secrets. Join the two as they navigate marriage together all while trying to not share their painful pasts at the same time.

I really enjoyed this book! I love a good forced marriage novel and this was perfect! Edward and Amelia were perfect for each other and overcame their insecurities, leading to the perfect romance. Fingers crossed there will be a series with the other main characters! I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family!

I love historical romance so much! Plus, this one has forced marriage, which is a trope that I seek out a lot. This had great, lovable protagonists and truly evil villains. The story is very engaging, and I have no complaints about this EXCEPT why can men in media (and sometimes life) never communicate?! I’m really glad that I read this, and I think a lot of people will love this.

This was unfortunately, not my favorite book.

Marriage of convenience troupe that turns into kinda of friends to lovers troupe? Almost yes. Minus the "lovers" part. If you are looking for a clean romance, this may be right up your alley. By about 50% I figured that was where we were going, but still, sadness. Kissing is the most risque thing you get.

The baggage that these characters hold is heavy without needing to be. <spoiler> Edward acting like a rake for parental approval? Amelia being hidden away because of her scars? </spoiler> It felt way over the top, and Daddy Duke just pissed me off with his "I'm checking out because you look too much like your mother who died, and I won't pay attention to you for 10+ years." Annoying.

Edith was definitely a character I loved to hate, but her comeuppance (getting sent to her room?!) was beyond the pale.

The book wasn't terrible. I just needed more sexy time interactions to make up for all the other frustrating parts of the book.

Karen Thornell has done it again! This was absolutely delightful. The plot was well-paced and captivating from start to finish. The characters were charming and the dialogue was witty and fun. EDWARD AND AMELIA by KAREN THORNELL is a most enjoyable and witty Regency novel with an intriguing story and great character depiction.
The author describes life at the time very well. We see the snobbery, jealousy and self importance of the “ton”, who live to gossip and break others down.
Amelia Kennington, youngest daughter of the Duke of Stafford, feels stifled in their London townhouse, and goes out for a walk unchaperoned, falling into the Serpentine, where she is observed in a compromising situation with Edward Drayton Earl of Norwich , who is trying to help her. This leads to her father insisting Edward marry her at the end of the week Edward, who has decided to find a wife this Season, is happy to oblige. Amelia is a fiery young lady excepting where her family is concerned. She has been largely ignored by them except when her older sister, Edith, led by jealousy, orders her about. Edith is very controlling and in fact “ half of London followed Edith’s whims” .
Edward has a bad reputation and Amelia wants to know if it is true. Will she ever come to know the real man underneath his flattery and treatment of her as he treats the female population as a whole? The scars that have disfigured Amelia physically, and which she is determined to keep from her new husband, add to the emotional scars she has received by her famiy’s indifference. and Edith’s non stop criticism.
I highly recommend Edward and Amelia to anyone who enjoys a good historical romance.

What happens when one sister is pitted against her twin sisters? Amelia, finds her sister Edith has too much control over her life. Edith, even chooses what gowns will be made for her. When Amelia finds herself in a situation, she isn't sure why her father insists that she marry Lord Norwich, she is against the arrangement from the beginning. Edward, is known as a rake among the ton. The rumors fly whenever Edward is around a young lady.
A story told from both Amelia and Edward, both had things they needed to overcome. I loved how Amelia learns to stand up for herself. A tender story that I enjoyed.

For someone who enjoys clean romances and regency ones that, this is one of few where I just could not finish it.

I made it to 50% and I decided that I needed to stop.

You have two characters who have no chemistry that are forced to marry by the father of the girl.
You have a male who indicates that he is a rake and romancer but you literally see none of that and wonder why he was labeled as that.
You have some strange conversations or fights between the two of them where you want to know why either of them are talking the way they are, or, why are they even fighting to begin with?

The list goes on! At 50% some of this stuff should be handled by now, but there was absolutely no plot and the above kept happening over and over that I just got confused on why these two characters are having problems conversing with one another or being married.

If others enjoy this book then that's fine but I am bowing out.

Edward and Amelia - Edward is perceived as a rake, and Amelia is about to begin her first season. Unfortunately, the heroine had no chaperone, so when she met the hero and because of their predicament - they had to enter a marriage of convenience. I wanted to read the book because I was curious about how the author would go about the union of a rake and a lady.

The author mentions the heroine's visible scars, and she was treated because that affected how she views herself. A glimpse of her thoughts: "Being in this unknown city constantly scrutinized by a family that could not see past her scars was unbearable."

I was not too fond of the antagonists were a bit far-fetched. Some parts were interesting, and I didn't particularly appreciate how the conflict revolved around gossip and conniving characters. It could have been quickly resolved by better communication from both parties. I also hated how her sister treated her, especially how she laced it with fake concern. However, I liked how the heroine was direct and vocal sometimes, and it can be a tad insensitive to the hero. The heroine had a lot of growing up to do. She did not have anyone around when her mother died. She felt alone and neglected. Whenever Amelia's family saw her, it was to criticize or pity her. Then it became difficult for her to trust her husband's words. The music she plays reflects her soul: full of sadness. Lady Cromwell was my favorite out of all the characters. She gave good advice and knew when to intervene.

My favorite quote: "Authentic connection is nothing to be frightened of."
